It’s quite annoying that they don’t have a theme for it. Personally I think good theming is one of the most important aspects of a ride. As it helps the experience to become more immersive. In the case of hyperia I think it comes down to laziness, as I don’t understand why they haven’t done more marketing for the ride and better theming similar to the smiler for example. The marketing and theming built sm hype for the ride. If I were in charge I’d hype up the fear factor by not making the theme of the ride mystical but scary, as I find it somewhat reminiscent of the flight of the sky lion at lego land 💀. If I were in charge I’d pick a daredevil-typa theme with some rock climbing elements. Paired with a red and black paint job or something a lil darker which would blend in better with saw and samurai. But there still is time to add a theme nevertheless I find the gold and black colour palette to be quite ugly. But I hope they play into the mythical side of some kind of mythical creature flying away. That could be cool but I think they fumbled the bag a bit by not theming the ride to be scary.
I feel like an easy way to improve the theming of Hyperia to play into that legend you showed was told in the hotel rooms. A statue of Hyperia with her steel wings, some sort of ruins or remnants of the story to imply it's a true story and not just a myth/legend ect.
even though it is on a Friday, Hyperia will have much longer queues than Nemesis Reborn on opening day because of the fact it's new, not redone. Also maybe because it's breaking multiple UK records.
You're right. If you look at the existing hypercoasters there is little or no theming eg The Big One, Magnum XL, Nitro, Diamond Back. You're going so fast, you don't have time to notice the theming!
Well, Stealth (205ft, also at Thorpe Park) *does* have some theming, with very heavy speedway vibes (as is tradition for intamin hydraulic launch coasters). But yeah it's a bit hard to properly theme other types of hypercoasters without it coming off as contrived.
To me this coaster doesn't say Thorpe Park or Merlin, it says Blackpool Pleasure Beach and I don't mean that in a positive way, it gives more Icon style rather than something that Merlin would do as you said in regards to the theming element from what we can see, that ride station to me just doesn't look great from seeing it in person too
I don't think it's a coaster that needs any theming to be honest, but they do need to make sure they get the landscaping right, at the moment a few twigs planted in what basically is just mud and with what is supposed to be a lake again just doesn't cut it, plant more shrubbery, lay turf, more greenery is needed. Having a coaster of that stature just plonked in a shed load of what resembles sh#te is not doing Thorpe Park any favours, the gold colour of the bottom part of the coaster melts into the mud making it hard to see the track from a distance let alone from close by, yeah so here's hoping by opening day they sort it out 😊
In this country, we have Alton Towers. You can’t get anything near that because everything else looks like it’s simply been placed somewhere, Alton Towers in the Staffordshire countryside with the woods the gardens the towers themselves, you can’t get anything like that . Disney or Efteling are similar - Thorpe park is not close, the vampire at Chessington world of adventures is almost certainly better.
It feels like the old management were just going down the record breaking stats route as a means to get people in the park which it most likely will. Let’s hope the new management go back to theming on future projects.
I love stealth, and that's themed fairly lightly/more stylised, so that makes me feel more comfortable with the level of theming that seems to be going on
Hi There, a great Video and thank you for sharing your thoughts, I think Scott O'Neil will have more of a focus on theming and the same will be the case with Galactica at Alton Towers. Cheers Peter :) p.s. hopefully it will be a great experience throughout p.p.s. apparently i've heard there's some extra theming that will be added to the uqueline at least based on Lift Hills and Thrills perspective.
First thing I noticed was how short it looked. Merlin do have a thing for very short rides, I suppose we can't expect anything of reasonable length like a 'Smiler' or a 'Colossus' any time soon.
with it being the uk's tallest and fastest I dont tihnk it needs a huge amount of theming. but anything build without a "fastest" or "tallest" tag line needs to be themed heavily from now. they have there big headline grabbing coaster. so now its time for future projects need to me themed. I would like to see slammer, derren brown and black mirror removed and a big indoor heavily themed dark ride / coaster like untamed at portaventura. but much better themeing inside. or remove stealth and rapids and build a heavily themed tarron style multi launch
Hi mate, just subbed and followed on X and insta! Going to towers in a couple of days, so will get my first opinions on nemesis reborn, loved ur galactica retheme concept btw!
Thank you mate! Hope you have a great trip at towers, Nemesis reborn is really great and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! I’m glad you enjoyed the Galactica concept, I’m a graphic designer so I’ll be sharing a lot of concepts in future videos!
Subscribed and followed here and on X and instagram. Great channel! I’ve been desperately trying to get my hands on one of the posters after having to cancel my opening day visit due to norovirus 😂🙏
Good video mate, did laugh at the end though haha “they’ve been people in planes like 100 feet in the air and you can still see it” I hope not lol don’t want someone flying into the coaster 😅
The 24th of May is Thorpe Park's 45th Birthday, I Think this was always gonna be the date. Also concerning the theming it was planned during the old CEO's time at Merlin. So the plans were already submitted etc. They could add theming down the line but it was always planned to be a stylized ride, TBH im just happy thorpe is getting some decent investment its about time. All they need now is new trains on the "neckbreaker" aka Colossus lol
Theming is quite important to me when it comes to rides. It's what really sells a ride as being high quality and different from a standard/could be seen anywhere ride. Hoping Hyperia gets some really nice flower displays, similar to all the cornflowers at jumanji, and some "heavenly" feel statues and arches.
For me I think its more important on a flat or dark ride. To me my favourites are based on how good the ride is not what it looks like. Look at the Big One in Blackpool it still has remains of its old title sponsor 😂. Good luck getting to 500, you'll find the next 500 will come much faster after that!
i think there will be plenty of theming to come there is still time before the ride opens up to the public for such a big ride i don't think that Merlin would let theme leave the ride poorly themed.
I'm actually sort of hoping that Hyperia doesn't go with an actual full-on ancient Greek theme. They already have the Lost City which maintains an ancient city theme, I think maybe a Bronzepunk aesthetic would work better (bronzepunk is like cyberpunk if it were ancient Greek or Roman). It's a much more unique aesthetic and so far seems to be what they're going for to be honest
Well, whilst theming for rides is always something to be desired, I'd argue that minimal theming can be better than overdone contrived theming. Like, sometimes, it's enough to make a ride just give off a certain vibe. Look at the Big One - the "theme" of which being 'yep, this ride is big'. Doesn't waste time with contrived decorations, just gets right to the point, and just works. Now suppose that the Pepsi Max Big One (back when it had that sponsorship) was given a very contrived in-your-face Pepsi Max theme, with a Pepsi Max pre-show, Pepsi Max elements near the track, Pepsi Max on-ride audio, etc. That experience would have been utterly disappointing. No theming would have been better than _that_ hypothetical monstrosity. So, to be honest, I kinda respect Merlin exercising restraint on trying to theme Hyperia, and instead just trying to deliver a vibe via the surrounding area, whilst letting the coaster itself do the talking. (Anywho, I suppose it also meant they could invest more manpower and resources into designing amd delivering the theming for Nemesis Reborn instead this year)
It's a hyper coaster and these things aren't knowing for that they're heavily themed. Actually Hyperia looks like one of the better looking hypersensitive with theming/style
i just love the simplisity of it all i think it will look far much better without themeing. whatever happened to coasters without themeing, oh wait thats just america.
I just want to ride a Roller Coaster im not a fan of theming. Maybe for kids rides i can understand BUT for BIG adult rides then just leave theming out. I just can't play along with the theming rides its like Adults playing along with the Santa Claus thing at christmas lol
I'm at the point in my life where no roller coaster in the UK will ever excite me, because of how much of anti-climax they always are. Alton Towers is a prototype park, and for some reason they made Nemesis amazing but Air was shite. Wicker Man is bland. The Smiler is revolutionary and genuinely the only coaster I've ever ridden where I've gone "Damn Britain, we did good". On to Thorpe, Saw and Swarm being different were great, Colossus has had its day, and Stealth is boring, we need to do better and I don't think Hyperia will kickstart a revolution. And I get a lot of flack for this, but Hyperia is too short and it's such a shame how they haven't added a few air time hills etc. What's the point in it being that high if the brake run starts around what, 40mph? Hell I'd take an extra few helix's, maybe a corkscrew!
I don't really understand the hype for nemesis reborn. Decent ride but nothing exceptional about it. I would be more excited for hyperia. At least it's new!
Thorpe park don’t tend to heavily theme rides as said in a previous statement. Also We aren’t American and don’t need all the fuss us brits now how to appreciate a ride
I do wish it had more theming but remember with the swarm the billboard was added later down the line so we could see some additions in the future.
That is true! I really hope so. There is a lot they could do to theme it along with the story line, so here's to hoping!
@@Coaster_Robyeah !
Granted, The Swarm was heavily themed from opening day.

This is what I was thinking, something almost mythical statue, stone carvings waterfalls etc!
even though it is on a Friday, Hyperia will have much longer queues than Nemesis Reborn on opening day because of the fact it's new, not redone. Also maybe because it's breaking multiple UK records.
Looks a short but fun experience. As with most UK coasters, the layout is criminally short.
It will definately quite the punch in a short span of time, unfortunately you're right, it seems to be a common theme here within the UK 🤷♂
@@Coaster_Rob The Smiler is just about the only ride that isn't over within half a minute!
@@gifflebunk13 and wicker man ?
It does feel a bit of a half job.. Lack of any theming and the course being SO short
It would have been great to see this fully themed, but it’s still going to be a great coaster nonetheless! 🙏🏻
I just don’t know how they’d go about theming a 200ft+ coaster to the same degree as other coasters without spending tens of millions on it
You're right. If you look at the existing hypercoasters there is little or no theming eg The Big One, Magnum XL, Nitro, Diamond Back. You're going so fast, you don't have time to notice the theming!

Considering the opening date I agree the theming was minimal, would love to see more clouds or golden gates
Any additional theming would be welcome, as long as it make sense of course!
I'm kinda hoping that they will add more to it next year, when they will also finish painting nearby Colossus
Me too! Time will tell and they have added extra elements down the line to other rides!

lack of theming isn't the issue, being a very short hypercoaster is the problem !
the train in the thumbnail dosent even look like the real one
