    This is a beautiful documentary, do transport gasifiers consume more fuel? Compared to a fixed generator?
    I would think it would due to there being a load usually? Maybe a generator head provides an equivalent load?

      From what I've read gasifiers for generators can be made more efficient because they operate over a narrower range of draw from the motor.

    wi9th modern materials for heat resistance, thermal conductivity and insulation as well as 3D printing for improved heat transfer and space savings it would be interesting to see how older designs could be improved. power density could be improved and such making them far more practical.

    I would have thought a steam engine would be a better choice for a truck.lots of torque and no gear box as such needed.

    The gasifier technology is an interesting and mostly forgotten technology. In the USA liquid fuels have long been preferred as they result in less maintenance problems. If you are marketing this technology to America, you are probably going to the wrong audience. Marketing in English is probably good as it is a the language of business and understood by people around the world; but in America is a rich country, with high incomes and high labor costs. Running a gasifier takes extra time and extra work. In America the savings do not make sense. In America, why drive a car with a gasifier? The time it takes to fire up the car before you leave, costs more than the fuel savings. People love to run out to the car, and just jump in and go. Gasoline and diesel make it easy to do that. In other countries, gasifier might make more sense. In Africa, Nigeria, South Africa, India, Cambodia and in some areas of China there are smart people, charcoal availability and people who could be trained to run gasifiers. Some of these places do not have electricity or use Diesel (oil) powered generators. These are locations where gasifiers would do well.

      I see gasifiers as a nice idea. They are a good technology. I think gasifiers can sell. They need to sell in the right place. They need to sell at the right price. They see to sell to the right people. They need to last a long time. They need to work good. They need to work with few problems. They need to be easy to fix. They need to be made with computers so they can run by themselves. In a country in Africa, where there is wood, this technology could be very good. A good gasifier, that can supply power could be very good. There, people can be hired to watch it, to work on it and to feed fuel into it for a very low amount of money. In those countries, they will be more successful.

      I do not wish to sound like I know it all, or have all the answers. But I think my knowledge might help a little. In Thailand there are many trucks that run with Compressed Natural Gas. In America there are very few trucks with compressed natural gas. Compressed natural gas works, it costs about 1/2 or 50% of the cost of diesel or gasoline. Thailand has a semi advanced country. It is smart enough to make the trucks, or alter the trucks as needed, and develop all the fuel stations to support a different kind of fuel. In America, the cost of altering trucks and having smart people change trucks from the established standard (diesel or gas) to compressed natural gas does not seem to make money. The cost is greater than the savings.

      In the USA I do wonder if a combined heat and power plant might not be possible. Some people, maybe 5%, still use firewood to heat houses. Many places in America have wood available. Some people have wood stoves in the house. Some people have wood stoves outside of houses. Most people have wood stoves in houses and they are cheaper. Many people have wood stoves for backup heat or to use in an emergency. An outside wood stove that could provide both heat, hot water, and electricity might be an interesting thing that could sell. In America, many people use hot air for heating, some people still use boilers and hot water for heating. That is less common. Sense many people burn wood, and some people even burn wood pellets, a stove put outside, that burns wood pellets or stoves but also runs a gasifier and makes electrical power could be very handy. There are peltier thermoelectric devices that can make some power 50 to 800 watts from a stove. (The lower end seems more realistic.) A wood gas generator could make much more power. This is possible by feeding a wood gas directly into a generator, but something needs to be make that would allow this to run for a very long time with little work. I suspect using pellets, one could build a device that would do this. Household power needs could also go through a battery bank, like people do for solar power. Solar panels are simple, you set them up and they generally work for a long time. Wood stoves are simple, you put wood in every few hours and the house stays warm. A setup that would both provide heat and power could be really good and helpful, if it was cheap enough. A normal gas furnace in the USA costs $5,000, a whole house back up generator costs $10,000 a small portable generator costs $500. People want to see a good product that lasts a long time. The product like this could sell in many places.

      One idea that might make gasifier technology to work better is to go with an old fashion engine. An engine that has a very old design, runs very slow and has a long record of reliability. In America, there are a few engines that have run for 100 years. One of these is at an oil well where it is fed natural gas. Built so many years ago, as long as it was oiled and maintained it has run for a very long time. There are other engines that have run for a long time. Speed on an engine is part of the problem. Fast engines do not last as long. They wear out. The same problem happens with Generators. Due to the 60 cycles per minute of electric power, almost every generator runs "fast". As a fast running device they wear out quickly and do not last as long. Selecting very reliable and long lasting generators, and engines and then combining them with a gasifier that is very clean, slow and can run a long time represents and interesting idea. By making a device that one can fuel once a day, can run for years, with little maintenance would provide a good product to sell.
