- What's up Nu Yawkers! Today I am back on the Norwegian Gem to do a tour of my balcony cabin! I originally booked a window cabin and placed a bid of $150 ($300 double occupancy) for a balcony cabin and my bid was accepted! Balcony cabins are great especially if it's a longer cruise (mine was 11 days) or if views are important (like an Alaskan cruise). It's also nice to step out into fresh air without getting on a elevator to visit one of the top decks! My stay was very comfortable, the cabin had lots of storage and it was quite spacious for a cruise cabin! What do you think of it? Watch the video and leave a comment below! That small shelf may be for a purse! Bad mojo to put a purse on the floor (superstition says a purse on the floor is a sign of losing money 🤷🏻♀️). That’s my guess. 😊

Very nice cabin Jeff! I cruised on the gem in 2013 and they used to have 4 full size bowling alleys in the Bliss Lounge, but I think they’re gone now. Great staff and crew and very festive atmosphere in a good way. Can’t wait to see additional videos.

I couldn't figure out that tiny shelf on my last few cruises either. My best thought: maybe it's for your smaller bags, like carry ons, so you don't have to leave them around your room.
This particular shelf is way to small for luggage or any bags for that matter, it's like 4"x10". Luggage stores nicely under the bed. Thanks Dan!

Gratuities are usually included in the price of the cruise (check to make sure for your cruise). No need to tip, but if you get really good service from someone, it never hurts the thank them with a little something.
That drop down in the closet gives you another row to hang clothes

Good tip about the European converter instead of adapter; I'm sure I would have bought an adapter, when we really need a converter (sounds like a good item to sell onboard). The water in the bathroom ran nicely. I've always wondered about the water running on cruise ships. Is it salt water?
It's fresh water not salt. I shy away from water on cruise ships. I know they use it for cooking and ice but that's as far as I'll go (hence I purchased 6 liters of bottled water). The crew (including some officers) have confirmed that ship drinking water is either fresh from the last port, recycled 'cleaned-up' water from the ship or de-desalinated sea water. No thanks. I thimk the shelf is for hanging shirts or blouses on top and it looks like you can hang pants or skirts on the bottom rack

How old is this video? Room service since the beginning of 2023 has been $9.95 for regular meals and breakfast is $4.95.
