And when I rise, let me rise
Like a bird, joyfully.
And when I fall, let me fall,
Like a leaf, gracefully, without regret.
And when I stand, let me stand,
Like a tree, strong and tall.
And when I lie, let me lie,
Like a lake, peacefully, calm and still.
And when I work, let me work,
Like a bee, wholeheartedly.
And when I play, let me play,
Like a breeze, refreshingly, light and clear.
For me, this is the best love song. Letting your beloved just be him or herself.
One of my favorites! Fly High Thay! I love you & our beloved global community! Deep Bow. Deep smile.
And when I love,
let me love,
like a lake,
peacefully.....
Calm and still 🤠
let this be a breath of peace in a maddening world and a reminder of what is good and kind
Love this. So peaceful, innocent and delicate.
Love this. So gentle and delicate.
this song is heart warming

Could you please share chords for this beautiful song? I would love to accompany singing with ukulele.
My search on the internet was unsuccessful, found only a different version of this song.
Beautiful. The lyrics in the description are off towards the end of the song... should be "refreshingly" instead of "fresh and cool".... thank you!
Beautiful and soothing. How can I download Wake Up song mp3s to listen to when I am travelling?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
And when I die, let me die, in my true home, here and now.
can you please share the original source of this song? I have the first two verses as a track on the 1996 recording 'Arc of Diamonds' by Judi Friedman. thank you!
This is what I found after some googling for the original source: "The composer is Wendy Tuck. Lyrics are partly from a poem by Wendell Berry. First published in From A Basket of Plums Songbook: Music in the Tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh (2009, 2013) with permission of Parallax Press, parallax.org." singingalive.org/2015/01/14/when-i-rise/
and also this comment: "Last weekend I was at the Great River folk festival and someone walked up to me with a story. She’s someone with whom I’d sung before, including ‘When I Rise,’ the Wendell Berry-inspired call-and-response song that so many people love to sing. She said that a dear old friend had reached out to her, someone named WENDY TUCK, who had heard that song on a radio show and was shocked because she had made the tune, back in 1975, and never knew until a few weeks ago that it had flown around and stuck! She only made the first part: When I rise let me rise, like a bird from a tree, when I fall let me fall like a leaf gracefully, with out regret.’ (W. Berry). All of the other verses have shown up from who knows where over the years. She is thrilled that people are singing it. So there, we can add that to our attributions lists! ~ Liz Rog"
Who sings this I wonder?
