- My solo guitar arrangement of Paco de Lucia's "Solo Quiero Caminar" (not note-for-note) played on a Jose Ramirez Flamenco Guitar made in Madrid 1961. Filmed at the Rosewood Guitar shop in Seattle Washington.
For many of the quick runs and alzapuas I use my alternate techniques #alternail and #altzapua . They help me stay relaxed at any speed and avoid hand injury.

Thanks for the view and subscribe! I love this tune and have never seen it done as a solo guitar version. It's not note-for-note. I developed and use #alternail and #altzapua with my index nail as an alternative to picado and alzapua sometimes TO HELP AVOID HAND INJURY. Now I can achieve these fast runs at any tempo, feeling comfortable and relaxed without the speed wall and insecurities that those techniques sometimes bring.

Wow interesting how you used an alternative tremolo metal picking for the fast paco picado runs I don’t blame you haha his picado is too fast and clean to get that crab leg lookin picado. More interesting in that thrash metal tremolo picking lookin alzapua too really crazy on the fusion techniques really cool stuff some of those paco alzapuas and picados just get too hard to do but you made you made your own technique and it sounds real freakin good vamos allá ole
Thank you Luis! You get it. They also help me avoid hand injury and sometimes I can feel the bad ergonomics of the traditional picado and alzapua techniques in my hands. My hands dont like them much.

Yes, well it's made in 1961. I had to be gently with it. I would not play this for dance accompaniment, I might crack it.

Hello Ben I have been enjoying your channel a lot recently. I have found the charm of flamenco guitar about 4 months ago. Personally, I am also much interested in Christian music like gospel songs and then have become even more interested in the combination of flamenco guitar and Christian music. Would it be considerable for you to try to play any popular Christian gospel song or hymn with flamenco style? If you have no interest in religion so I offended you by this question, I apologize in advance. Hope you and your people stay strong and healthy. Peace.
Thanks Bart. I'm not religious but spiritual. I dont see myself doing a fusion like that, but it could happen someday.

why the two picados?
Great question! I've been doing normal picado for years but has always felt uncomfortable and not very ergonomic for my hands. Lately it's been feeling even more uncomfortable, so I switched up to #alternail to avoid injury. And with that technique, there is no longer a speed wall, I can go as fast as I can think, so it's really freedom! Now I have the sticcado sound if I need it for shorter, slower runs (with picado) and limitless shredding capability with #alternail runs.
@@BenjaminWoods well it sounds great. as a (mostly ex) metal guy, I definitely recognize the utility in it. last question: did you have to relearn arpeggios with what I assume was a change in the shape of your index fingernail? I've used/use the alternate picking nail thing myself, but of course, the volume was low and uneven, and it was never fully realized. very cool that you figured out how to make it work without sacrificing anything.
(I've long had my suspicions an acrylic nail shaped like a guitar pick (V) could work)
@@mackhomie6 Thanks. I did not have to releard arpeggios. My index nail shape is normal (rounded) and not too long (2-3mm my other nails are about 1mm)
@@BenjaminWoods very cool. I've been leaving that nail slightly longer lately, too. the 'i' upstrokes and tremolo both coming through cleaner seen to be the biggest benefits as far as I can tell

Do you mean the www.foroflamenco.com/ You know I visit there every few years to see what people are writing about me, it's almost never good and even my "friends" dont always have my back there. But it doesn't bother me, I'm doing quite well.
