Just heard Igor Levit play this sonata beautifully in his own way but this old monster is in a league of his own. The piano becomes orchestral which is what was intended by Beethoven. I'm afraid Gilels is peerless in the Waldstein. Others may try to snatch this title for decades to come....

Gilels is one the most poetic and at the same time one of most powerful pianist ever. Adorable.
