Very true Father. In both of my traditions (Methodism & contemporary Baptist Evangelical) it was very hard for me to reconcile this angry old testament God who demanded his own son be sacrificed to atone for my sins as an end in itself. Seeing sin as a disease and not simply as "you broke this arbitrary law of mine" as it is so often described, was a revelation, and part of why I came home.

Always love what Fr Stephen has to say! I’ve seen first hand that the loss of that idea of who God is, even if that idea is wrong and ugly, can be very hard for people to grasp, and must always be done with tenderness.
