I thought about getting this for my 1970 911E, but then I realized it would defeat the purpose of a fully analog car. I actually appreciate a vintage car with zero distractions taking away from the driving experience.
Great video! Love that Porsche is still supporting these beautiful classic models. I’m hoping this tradition continues someday when my 992 has many more years behind it.
Thanks for the video. I’m considering swapping my Becker Grand Prix as its iPod kit stopped supporting iPhone 15 even with Apple’s own lightning to usb-c converter. I have 993 targa and saw some reviews the PCCM screen is not very bright and hard to read in daylight. What’s your experience please ? Also, can’t seem to find copy of manual - to see details of amp/Watts RMS output. Heard its higher than usual head units at around 45w per channel - so may not need separate amp ? Any thoughts you have that may help me decide to but appreciated.
Yo tambien he comprado uno para mi 928 manual del 89, lo he restaurado entero y lo que veia que le faltaba es esta radio, me costo decidir por comprarla por que es cara, pero ya la tengo.
Any reason this can't be installed in other classic cars with a 1-din slot? I'm looking for something that fits in an RX-7 and there's nothing else like this on the market for some reason. Hopefully you can install android auto too.
I have not been able to play music from either sd card nor mp3 player or iPod. For some reason my unit does not recognize these cards. Could you share with me the format used to store your music on these devices.
I like the lyrical sound of your take on sustainability Janko - it’s enticing. I’m a petrol head and love the driving experience of vintage Porsches. With regard to an engaging driving experience, electric computer controlled cars seem utterly soulless to me. But I’m not sure that the environmental savings of reusing & modernizing a vintage car outweighs the tail pipe emissions of running a gasoline engine. (Unless, of course, Porsche succeeds in developing its zero emissions gasoline substitute fuel).
Love your place! Nice job with the video. I really can't believe you speak that good English. I considered putting one of those in my 1995 993, but I gave my son the car so I never put it in. That's not a Melges sailboat is it? I had a couple Melges 24s for years. Loved doing 20 kts on the edge! Also a 1979 928!
@@JankoLind Very nice! Have you had it to 20 kts yet or been out in 30 kts? I gave him a 993 and a trading account of $35000 which makes him $8,000 / year and you want me to buy him a PCCM? Did he pay you to say that?
Hey, Janko. Thanks for the review. Very interesting. As a 928-fanatic myself, this was double the fun. However, I'm hoping you might help me a bit here. I have a different unit in my 928 today (Kienzle MCR 1031). Similar in capabilities and looks, but there are a couple of things on it that is annoying me, so I am trying to figure out if I should change to the PCCM. But there is very little good information about the PCCM online. So if you have some time, there are a bunch of questions I'd like to ask. I'm hoping you can help me with some answers...
@@JankoLind Thanks. Eller tackar... Vi kan faktiskt ha träffats någon gång för många år sedan, då jag var lite engagerad i PCS i början av 2000-talet (nåja, väldigt lite...). Anyway, keeping it in english, in case anyone else might be interested in this as well. As I understand, there is no speed dependent volume control, nor speed sensor input for the navigation. I just want to check if I got that right. And I can understand if that's also a bit hard for you to check, if nothing is mentioned in any manual. Just curious if the manuals do mention anything. Second - with my current unit, if I get a phone call, it switches to the phone information, giving me the caller and so on. So far, so good. However, I cannot get out from that screen, and voice guidance is also muted while the phone call is ongoing. This creates a situation where, if I get a call, I no longer can tell where I should be going. And I find that really bad. How does the PCCM behave here? Can you get guidance while on the phone through the PCCM? Another thing. The PCCM donät have any hard buttons for skipping forward or backward. But I think I saw somewhere that the right wheel can be used for this as well? What if you are on the map? Is it possible to switch to the next radio station or next track (depending on what audio source you have) without getting out of the map screen? Have you driven in any tunnels using the navigation? How reasonable is it in figuring out where you are and where you are going? Sorry - a long text for a few questions... Maybe I should ping you outside of youtube...?
@@sillbit Hi, I'm going to try to answer your questions 1.) Classic cars has analog speedcounters limiting the integration to the PCCM. Therefore NO only speed calculation is made with GPS signal. IF it increases the volume when drivning, don't know. 2.) IF that is what you need you could easily use apple car play. I do get guidens when I drive but can not remember if that was via Apple Car Play or the Porsche NAV. 3.)Yes use the right wheel. You need to use the shortcut buttons to the right area such as the Radio. 4.) As mentioned in the first question, PCCM loses connections in tunnels.
@@JankoLind Hi. Thanks a lot for the answers. More comments/questions coming. :) 1) No, that is incorrect. The 928 (from 1987 forward if I remember right) do have a digital speed signal. You just need to know how to figure out the electrical system of the car, locate and hook it up. I used to have a Becker Nav unit in my 928, and had the GAL hooked up. Worked beautifully. So sad PCCM do not have this then. But that's what I gathered from trying to find information as well. 2) I don't even have an iPhone. :) Could you please test and tell me how PCCM works if you are on the units nav, and a phone call is done? This is rather critical for me. 3) Excellent! That makes me happy. 4) Understood. But how is your experience then? I would guess/assume it just does dead reckoning of position while the GPS signal is lost. Does it feel as you get a fairly good approximation? Or what does it actually do? Oh. And a new one: 5) When entering destinations in the nav, do you need to use the touchscreen for that, or can the right wheel be used in all situations? A small screen can be a bit tricky to enter letters on, and you also get lots of smudges. So using the wheel could be helpful...
Actually, I should correct myself on point 1. Thinking about it, it should be from 1989 and forwards, when the new digital dash was introduced. But this is one of those things I love about the 928. It's a technical masterpiece, in addition to being so fantastic to drive.
Sorry, didn’t understand your comment on the electric garage door. A manual door means you get to use it, and an electric door means everyone else will use it?? What??
It's a clever tip from a family man. Some of his family members might not bother getting out of the car to open the garage if it wasn't electric opening; just park out front, leaving the space for his own cars.
What a great product to have available for your classic Porsche. Great content as usual, but I'm not digging the color grading! Miss the rich colors of older vids!
I just had this installed in my 964. Thanks for posting this - super helpful.

I guess you could pull over and get the paper map out for the full experience!

Cool audio din. Porsche is a great brand with loyal consumers.
A perfect option for all vintage Porsche, thanks for watching and take care.
Good to know about this! THX!

Brilliant video, thanks 🙏

Thanks, but for me it feels in my way when producing.
I would love a sail boat video! “The art of sailing “ !!! 👍🏻
Hi Timo, to complicated, imposible to do alone. Need a team.
Do you know if it's possible to install a reversing camera to the head unit?
Sorry don't know
Is there any feedback for the usefulness of the screen? Is it too small to use and see? I am interested for my 993. Thanks
For me it works, don't need a bigger screen.

Can we fit this unit into a non-Porsche vehicle?
