SUMMARY:
Asking questions is a fantastic way for you to overcome your fear of speaking. It allows you time to get used to the situation you're in and then, you can also steal the language the other person is using.
Here are the questions you can ask. These are common in everyday English so memorize these and use them the next time you're speaking English:
- Hey, how’s it going? I’m Jack…
- Where are you from?
- Whereabouts in Spain?
- Oh, I’ve been there
- So, what do you do?
- Do you like it?
- Don’t ask about wages
- Who do you teach?
- How do you get students?
- How do you know Paul and Sarah?
- This is such a common question to ask. At a party - you both have someone in common - you both know the host / hostess / hosts
- Know that you’re going to get asked the same thing so start thinking about your answer
- How often do you go back home/ to the U.K.?
- I go back every year or so….
- Would you like to meet up sometime?
- Would you like to get a coffee and chat more about….
- Which school does [insert name] go to?
- Does he/she like it?
- Are you into …..?
- I usually ask this about football/soccer as that’s what I’m into
- This is such a good spread
- The food is amazing
- It’s been so cold today…
- Talk about my lesson on temperatures and the weather
- It’s so important to learn this
- How do you like….?
You'll notice that some of these are statements. Making quick statements also helps you when it comes to this.
Again, thank you for watching!

Hello Jack
One thing I'm very interested in about people is their hobbies and how they spend their free time. That's why I ask them: what do you do for fun?
Hello Jack, Hi There,
Thanks for your video. If I were likely to meet English speaking people at a party, my first question would probably be about their origine. The second would be about what they do for fun , their free time , what are their favorite bands, their favorite movies, actors etc...
Otherwise, I hope you can return to Manchester, England often.
Hello Jack, lots of congrats for your videos, they're amazing and so useful. Well, another question would be: What do you think about the weather here/in this city? Or maybe: Could we keep in touch? Obviously if there have been a previous conversation. Another question which I think is nice to ask is: And which kind of food do you love to eat? Do you have any special dish as your favourite one? Btw, I'm from Peru and appreciate what you do in each video. I hope you carry on making more, just like it. (Y)
Those are really useful. Thanks!
@@tofluency Yes, Jack's videos are really useful. Keep watching them, Jesus and one day your qwestion might be useful too)))
In my opinion is vital to know how to ask questions. Even though, it depends on if you want to be polite or informal. I would prefer to use :
Would you like a cup of red wine?
Why don't we Talk about ......?
Are you Up For learning english?
Are you willing to leave your confort zone in order to inprove ?
Great lesson Jack
Thank you! I'll be adding these phrases to the To Fluency Program in 2020. Thank you for your review!

Thanks Jack it's a great video but you asked all questions that I'll ask... by the way I want to ask something to you I'm not a native speaker of English and I think my level is between B1-B2 although why I can understand your almost every word? Thanks again..
Hello Jack, this is another awesome video that you've made, i like all of yours, and about the question, it would be, would you like go to the cinema? There's a good movie that everyone wants to watch on the cinema, have you already seen it?. Keep doing videos!
I am here because of your eye color and your beautiful voice.
Nice questions to open up a conversation with someone you don't know.
Great lesson.
In a party I could ask for : are you alone here or with other friends of yours? how long have you been here?
Are you living on your own?
danger question. After that I can answer : Yes, would you like to come and see my great butterflies collection ?
Dear Jack Askew, as always this video is very useful to English language learners. Your points are convincing. Can you please share the different types of questions in detail such as Wh- questions, Yes or No questions or Question Tags, and so on? Thanks a lot, #To_Fluency
Hello Jack, I want to ask you question, Why do you like to teach English and what's your motivation in teaching.
Thank you
we could also ask about family and asking about the family members or speaking about favorite books and movies Jack ;)
Hi , i m from india. I just started to watch your videos. Really it is very useful. If i saw any foreigners i asked them , do you like indian food.
I'd answer: I LOVE it!
Hopefully you are at the level of 250 K subscribers by the end of 2019 🙏🏽
Thank you!
Thanks for the video. Could you say What accent do you have?
Hi Jack, yahks for your asistance :)
If I meet people for a first time, I would say for example...
A) What's your opinion about.......you can add any information, its doesnt matter...just as you said, steal some phrases, idioms, intonation and common expressions,
B) Do you think that........and can continue......whatever....
C) Based in your experience...what's the best place to........
D) If you are a foreigner....what funny activities are a "must" in your country ?
E) in a romantic context...What crazy action you would do if you are falling in love??? :)
Best regards
Gastón
Good job, Jack! I would add:
There's a nice friendly atmosphere here, isn't there?
The music is super, do you want to dance?
You said you're into theatre, what do you recommend seeing at the moment?
Cool questions but i didnt get ur last question clearly. Is it like "what do u think about this show?"?
@@Coctailland I meant if there is a play worth seeing at the theatre
@@francomarini560 oh okay i got it now :) like " was it worth to go?"
@@francomarini560 And that too if you have more than one option there, right?
Hi from Perú. I'm an English teacher. What's the most common questions about the school where children study?: Where do you study? What school do you go to? Where do you go to school? Is It the dame in American English?
It's the first time I have listened "whereabout". 😁
Sorry very useful.
Hi, If the person who is talking with me is a foreigner, I ask " How long have you been here?" And if the duration of stay is longer than me, I say "you should know a lot of interesting places in the city. Do you know where can I find a coffee which is calm and easy to reading the book or studying" and conversation improves about books, coffee, music etc. :)
Many topics we can ask. In my daily work routine, I made different questions:
What Hospital do you work in?
What is your medical specialty?
How long have you been a doctor?... etc.
Kaaaate !! Jack is talking about dates haha... LOvE Uu MAN!
😂
Thank you for your explanation, Sir!^_^
But I'm still confused of meeting a new person or people to ask like the below:
1) What do you do? or
2) Who are you?
Are both of them the same question or not, Sir?^_^
I reckon they're different.
Nobody asks who are you?

Hi from Turkey. I'm in the B1 level. Would you mind recommend some series for me to improve my listening and speaking?
friends, it's a great show, you can find him in netflix though the subtitles aren't exactly at the same speed, have like 3 seconds of delay
Serie: the end of the fucking world. Easy and you will enjoy. on Netflix.
Thanks for your answer. I'll try these series.
There is also special serie for learning "extra English" on UA-cam. Very good for beginners.
@@Amelia-yn8yn really? Tnx for your answer🙆
Is It the same in American English?
i'm from Algeria 🇩🇿 and i'm about to immigrate to Canada 🇨🇦. when i will meet locals for the first time i would propably ask them about the spots i could visit in their country: "what are the most famous spots i should visit in Ontario Provence"?
I'm from China, have you been to China? Do you like travelling? Where did you go last year?
Is the same in American English?
Sometimes I ask people: "Do you have any pets?". Most people enjoy talking about their pets. Especially, the question is suitable for an event where the hosts have pets as well.
We can ask on game as well, like "Do you like football?"
football is sport not game
@masumulgani: no point of a question, you are from Bengal.
@@greycegordon1597 The difference is subtle... a game can be physical too. Game, in fact, uses as a synonym to sport, especially in the news.
How did you traveled to get here?Is the road busy?Which car do you have?So then we can maybe start to talk about traffic or their way to work.
I would like to meet foreigners at the party here in Poland.
I can ask: what do you like here, in Poland? What is your favourite polish food? Do you enjoy here?
What's your favorite Disney movie?
•Do you have any pets?
Where did you grow up?
Anyone here who is interested in spoken English on phone?
As I like funny questions after a while l would ask him/her: What do you think would happen if your mother ruled the world? If a crystal ball could reveal your future, what would you don't want to know? And of course, if you won $1 million dollars how much would you share with me? :)
hahaha, that can be kinda weird
Do like Mo salah hahaha 😂
Sometimes I might ask: How did you find living in UK/Syria/Egypt/USA?
Or What are some of the difficulties you found living in the Middle East?
Did you find any difficulties in living in the Middle East countries?
Why Soccer Instead football?
Thanks very much
