    The Essentials Kit has a new starter adventure for us to explore - Dragon of Icespire Peak. Is it connected to the Lost Mines of Phandelver? What's new in Phandalin? Let's find out!

    I will soon start my own mashup "The Dragons of Phandelver." Incorporating parts from the Starter and Essential kit. I'm thinking of having three main stories in one (The Green Dragon, The White Dragon, The Black Spider) and then steer the players into TYranny of Dragons. Hence how I found your channel. You make some amazing content, loving every second of it. Keep up the great work!

    I’m running it as a direct sequel to LMoP. My party has rebuilt Tresendar Manor for themselves, now calling it “Savior Manor” They’ve been living in Phandalin for about 6 months when Cryovain appears. Our Rogue was cursed by Venomfang during LMoP, he gained a breath weapon but there’s a 25% chance that the dragon takes control over him during a long rest and causes him to try and kill the other party members. They found an old map in Wave Echo Cave during LMoP that leads to an old burial mound. I’m planning to have the Dragon Slayer sword found in the Dragon Barrow, be their only way to break Venomfangs curse without using the remove curse spell. That way the previous story can tie into this one in a small way.

    I started running Dragon of Icespire Peak after I had already run Lost Mine of Phandelver, with a new party, and made references to events that had occurred during my LMoP campaign. But in retrospect, I think it makes more sense to run Dragon of Icespire Peak as a prequel, if possible, since the town is much more likely to change during LMop than DoIP.

    This has been my first campaign ever as a DM. I think it's the perfect balance between giving you enough info to play your own creations into the story as well as not overwhelming you with lots of stuff that may not have a place in the story. So far I'm running it with a party of 3 new players and they're loving it. I make sure to add some puzzles or secrets with some rewards here and there, so the story doesn't feel so straightforward.
    I'm planning on playing this with my kids at the D&D club next season at school too (I'm a teacher) so students from my country can get a taste of the D&D universe.
    Great content!

    I will do this as a two modules happening both at the same time. I have started the game with them delivering a wagon of supplies and the Cragmaw goblins ambush and hideout as written. When my players finally make their way to Phandalin they soon find out that the town is in a very bad way. Lack or rainfall and a crop blight has lead to a poor harvest and there is a very real threat of famine during the winter. This has lead them to import food for the year from other settlements such as Neverwinter and Waterdeep. However the dragons Cryovain and Venomfang have recently entered the region and have displaced tribes of goblins and orcs who now make the area their new home raiding travelers and caravans making the land route to Phandalin very dangerous.
    The players find out through conversation that the towns people are shocked that they have made it to the town with the supplies and that due to the dragons the displaced monsters and tribes are now dealing havoc on the town and the surrounding areas. With a poor harvest and no merchants brave enough to try and make it to the town due to threats of dragon or monster attacks they fear that they might starve and might have to abandon the town. The situation is made worse with the redbrand bandits who originally came in under the pretense of wanting to “protect” the town soon strong armed the citizens and now rule the town. All the while the Black Spider has taken the opportunity to use the chaos caused by the two dragons to find Wave Echo cave and the Spell Forge for his own purposes and designs on the region.
    From here it is up to my players to decide how they want to move forward and help the town and restore peace and stability to this part of the Sword Coast.

    Currently running lmop for 2 players. I'm planning on taking a few quests from doip to level them up. Also going to try and make the black spider summon a dragon for them to have a final battle with.

    Perfect! I was wondering how to combind these two. I prefer Dragon of Icespire peak but want the clear storyline parts and the evil supervillan/more direct plot from the Starter set.

    I'm running DoIP for a couple of friends right now. (New DM) Setting it as 10 years after LMoP and "tweaking" certain characters' age ranges. I've started the 3 player characters at Level 2 and made the first 2 quests the Dwarven Excavation (replacing Yellow Ochres with Grey Oozes and adding some undead Dwarves) and Umbridge Hill (with a Manticore down to half HP after being wounded by the White Dragon). Now they are level 3. Going well so far.

    We are finishing Lost mines in the next few sessions, considering running this one as a follow up but the party is 4th level so I would need to beef this one up to make it interesting or run Storm Kings Thunder as it is more situated for higher level players

    My party started with Lost Mines and we did Icespire peak as a One Shot where they just go hunt down the dragon since i did inform them about the dragon being there during the first campaign. Currently am tying all of this into one campaign for Tyranny of dragons

    I run after they get rid of the red brand treat, Harbin Wester now feels safe enough to reach out to contacts outside of Phandalin again sets up the job board again. They also see venomfang flying back to the forest from a white dragon who ascends out of view to the mountains. In my game neverwinter is being attacked by orcs so to the east and woods the orc quests fit pretty well. And is they go south to leilon I use the ghost of saltmarsh adventures and that’s prettt much how I keep the game all in one location so I can really reduce the amount of prep. But I mostly run game with new players so they loved too see an area of less than 300sq miles so packed full of adventures. I’ve never finished it all but I imagine it’s probably a good 1-2 years of weekly play

    • @LutesDice
      @LutesDice  4 роки тому +3

      Hey, Huguirur. You certainly can. I ran the entire thing for one player and it was really fun. Although yes, you will have to adjust it a bit. Don't be overwhelmed with the math of the game - for the most part it doesn't work anyway ;) When you try to balance things out remember this - a side gains a pretty good advantage with each guy that exceeds the number of people on another side. Basically the number of monster has to be adjusted in the first place. If you have the essentials kit - consider giving your player an appropriate sidekick.
      In my game the player was a very diplomatic type and he always had NPCs join hid party, so he had no problems with the difficulty of the fights. I also allowed him to start as a level 2 character. Overall it went just fine.

    I have a question. On my last DM module, Ghosts of Saltmarsh, I did something like this: got the adventurers to fight as paid workers for the townhall master. It wasnt a strong bond tho. Everytime something happened to Saltmarsh, they were like: well, Im not attached to this town, I dont care.
    I'll start DMing DoIP in a week or so and can't find a strong start for my players to feel the need of help.

    This is what I'm doing for my campaign;
    1 - Play Lost Mine of Phandelver
    2 - Insert Tales of a Yawning Portal.
    (After concluding LMoP, offer the players downtime over the course of a year. _(I only have 1 player)_ During this year, new merchants build a magical tavern in town with books that suck it's reader inside as a sort of simulation), while also offering minor quests from DoIP aswell as having PCs learn skills, languages ir feats from a mentor in Phandalin.
    3 - Run the Cryovain adventure line from Dragon of Icespire Peak
    4 - Start Hoard of the Dragon Queen. Emphasise Cult of the Dragon in previous campaigns, instead of 'Greenest in flames', have it be 'Phandelver in flames'
    5 - Follow up with Rise of Tiamat.

    I made Halia a lamia with an underground network jakalweres in my DoISP game manipulating the townspeople in the background and manipulating the PC's into doing her bidding and taking out the pesky dragon that threatens her plans for Phandalin. One possible ending has the party mannaging if they role high enough to convince Cryovain to join them in battle against this common more insidious threat not easy with a white but if they live long enough to show direct evidence this Lamia has been plotting his demise he sees it as an unforgivable slight and hey any chance you have to let your pc's ride a dragon into battle is worth taking. 😉
