Nergigante's fight is the perfect example of Monster Hunter's "the more you fight the easier it gets", the first time I fought him it was a nightmare, but it got incredibly easier over time, amazing fight
Always intrigued me when the Handler muses on whether Nergigante's persistence in the Elder's Recess was part of an effort to find and kill Xeno'jiiva. Seems egregious, given the difference in size and power output, but there is potential for Nergigante to win on two conditions. 1, Easy mode, find the cocoon, claw in and kill Xeno while it's still comatose. 2, Hard mode, even if Xeno has emerged, there's still a period where it's soft-skinned and inexperienced. Hit it with the Shara combo, catch it by surprise from above, topple the legs and go for the neck before it can get back up. Riskier, but not impossible if Nergi's quick enough. This also fits with Nergigante's lack of appearances/mentions when Safi arrives, who as a full-grown adult is far too tough and experienced. Of course no real confirmation or follow-up, but it's nice to reflect.
makes me wonder: would Nergigante be smart enough to let Hunters kill Safi'jiiva? because if it's too strong for Nergigante, then perhaps he knows only we can handle it.
Nergi while belligerent does have a sense of when and when not to fight for teostra and lunastra he can fight alone but together is too risky, after the fight with shara while he did play dead to lure out shara he knew that he coulden’t take on the other hunters simultaneously so he left. While xeno is powerful it was also just born and I doubt it will be an easy fight for either of them if they encounter each other, safi being black dragon level in power would likely be to much for him to handle.
@@branndonkimble4581 Could also be that Nergigante could sense that Alatreon was coming and decided to not pursue this venture given how those 2 were gonna be slugging it out. It was by chance that we took care of both of them before they could come to blows with each other.
I would do absolutely anything to see Nergigante in MH Wilds, and even if he doesn't get a chance to show up in the game, he'll always be my number one favorite Elder Dragon.
Perfect Rush is basically SNS's best move in Iceborne. Seriously, it has GS True Charge Slash level motion-values but is way safer to perform since you can roll-cancel out of it AND the lead-in backhop has crazy high i-frames on it.

Nergigante is literally a walking tank, he doesn't give flying f#ck if he takes a butt load amount of damage, he just goes all out without any hesitation.
Cotton talking about songs he doesn't remember/hasn't used triggered an idea for me: What if in WIlds they let you pick the strings/skins/whatever of your hunting horn independent of the horn, so you can equip whatever song sets you'd like the way Insect Glaive equips Kinsects? Or, presuming they keep the option to play old or new style performances like RIse, make that something classic style performing unlocks? I think it'd be a neat way to let you tune your songs to your playstyle and the hunt in question without binding it to weapon stats.
this has been on my mind for a while now: Josh and Cotton if they were knights IRL. their armour would be from 15th Century, since it's when we start to see the knights in full plate armour. what said armour would be like - such as the helmet, however, is their choice. *Cotton* armour decoration: he'd have a pink plume adorning his helmet. weapons: his main weapon would be a war hammer - a Bec de Corbin, to be precise. since he loves hammers (iirc), why not that? his back-up weapon is a short/arming sword and a Targe shield (he's the more adaptable of the two in terms of weapons, hence why i decided to also give him a shield along with the sword). *Josh* armour decoration: he'd don a red cape. weapons: Zweihander, Flamberge, Claymore or Late Medieval Greatsword? his choice. he'd also have an arming sword as a back-up weapon.
This intro feels so wild compared to the actual target of the episode, the classic proob experience. I still failed to read my first nergigante for several hours during the elder's recess encounter... now ruiner's my puppy.
I would agree that every weapon needs to loose it's counter (Just the ones that gained one in risebreak) except maybe SWAX, and then only as a trade off that you can have your counter OR your Amped Discharge. You want a defensive option fair enough no attaching to monsters and blowing them to hell for you!
I think in wilds it would be cool if well timed blocks for weapons with a block worked similar to a counter or a parry(perhaps even in the form of super armor) rather than having counter moves

Anyway, yes Josh just spam Triangle and flick the stick away from where you are attacking before the third attack to keep the chain going. If you keep doing that you can just keep attacking. Cotton's real name, is "Toby"? 8:49 'course it doesn't; it's not Dual Blades. the reason why SnS has a shield is to block, not attack. before Gen 3 or 4, the shield could only block - as it was meant to. nowadays, the shield can provide some extra damage, which is a neat addition to SnS' moveset... and everyone seems to only care about using the shield to attack. *sigh* any fellow SnS main that uses the shield to block? i do, and it's why i focus on Guard and Guard Up. what's the point of having a shield if you're not going to use it (properly)? 9:10 he's going Super Saiyan!! 12:09 because it *is* simple. spamming Triangle and/or Cirlce is the EASIEST input for SnS. you can't f@c# it up (unless it's the timing of when you do it). 14:40-14:47 you did it! you've executed a Prefect Rush! albeit not at full force. you have to *time* each hit, not spam Triangle (i did that myself before learning how to time the hits); it's understandable why you wouldn't bother timing the button press. 15:13 a GS main has made us SnS mains proud. hm, never thought that'd happen. 15:48-15:54 correct. you can just spam Triangle, but if you want *maximum* damage with Perfect Rush, you have to time each hit. 15:58-16:08 exactly. and thank you for clarifying SnS' Perfect Rush, Cotton.

I stand by water strike staying as a part of Hammer's moveset post-Rise/Sunbreak. Its not super strong, it leaves you open if you miss, and the move it replaces is easy to write out if they don't want to do multiple movesets per weapon.
The complete wiff of perfect rush hurt me to watch lol If you get the time if right you get a red glow If you go do the events like code red you can get the elder tracks without going to pick them up

The whole fun of HH in World was understanding the monster well enough to fit your recitals in the appropriate times while always staying on the attack (no corner horning!). Rise ruined the weapon, you just spam buttons now.
As a long time long sword user, I really want there to be less counters in the game (balanced with less full body aoe attacks by the monsters). I miss the positioning based gameplay of the 3rd and 4th gen.

Hot take: I hope they KEEP the changes to weapons they made in Rise/Sun break! From MH to Sun break technology and techniques have been changing as they would realistically. And after taking a step back and doing away with aquatic combat, it would be a massive step back for me. Likely unforgivable. If they go back on weapons, I will probably just walk away from MH.
well yes, Cotton has a weapon they don't really like all that much and Josh has a weapon that despite existing since the beginning they have no clue what it's for. they just basarios it so it has no identity other than being the nothing weapon. MH World is the exact issue with that weapon, perfect rush was meant to be another play style for element because they fucked up falling bash so much that in base World it was the only thing worth using, a raw only move. as a result, perfect rush failed its entire reason for existing, being an elemental combo, by being a poorly built rhythm game, with very bad visual cues, that was not worth learning because the damage sucked. as a direct result of this, they abandoned its purpose by just giving it a motion value buff and calling it a day. its shit like this that proves they are not ready to add more weapons, they can't even handle what's already on thier plate.
Sigh, I was hopping Cotton would get SnS and not Josh, I wanted to see a somewhat decent SnS gameplay, not josh spamming the triangle attack and backstepping, physically painful to watch. I'm sure other people who play other weapons felt the same when they saw their main weapons be played. Edit: Watching him roast perfect rush lmao, Josh plz.

It's sorta the reason I wanted Cotton to be the player though, because cotton, due to how new he was to the game, wanted to try most weapons and did his research, whereas Josh just has this pre-conceived idea about all the weapons, so doesn't branch out and ends up knowing less due to it.

I beat him in the demo, so he was kinda easy by the time I fought him for real, still one of my favorite monster fights though
