Buy a dvd called 'The dirty south' off amazon- its fu**ing fantastic and you will probably go buy all their albums afterwards- this song is the best I've ever heard because it really gives me the feeling that I'm 19 again and the urge for a beer and more volume.
Me Too and I've just played this track over and over for over an hour- I love isobels slide guitar playing and cooleys rawness- this reminds me of the don't give a fu** attitude I had back in the eighties- watch the 'WAY' by skynyrd and see Thommasson play the fastest lead guitar the west has ever known- SOUTHERN ROCK all the way- R.I.P. Hughie!
yea, they play in tuscaloosa all the time at a couple bars across the street from the one I work in. I try and catch them every chance I get when they are in town. They put on a pretty damn good show.
Has anyone noticed the Castrol oil commercial with this song riff in background. Greatest band ever their so rock, muscle shoals got the swampers, I wonder if anyone can connect Patterson and that song line.
if it werent for stuff like this being posted, I would never have found 90% of the bands I listen to... I love DBT, and its because of youtube I was able to discover them, I would have never bought cds and gone to concerts of theirs just by taking a chance
Isobel on slide guitar is absolutely complemetary to cooleys rawness- this is a band to drink beer to and enjoy the night with! As husker666 says- 'SOUTHERN ROCK AT ITS FINEST'!
The young guy with the evil guitar is baby Isbell, 24 (?), not yet married to DBT bassist Shonna Tucker (?)... apparently on good behavior... I love them all...
We had the Outlaws, Steve Earl, Little Feat, The Band, and the Georgia Satelites...to have and appreciate this aural gumbo. To have all those influences, without being rip-off derivative...I mean..DAMN. I just heard these guys the first time, yesterday. I avoided "Southern Rock" all my life, did not like Skynrd...but...I'm hooked. No comparison. Awesome.
@TheRooster456 That's Jason Isbell. Sadly, he's not with the band anymore; but he has started an excellent solo career. I recommend looking up his song "Alabama Pines" on here. His talent is incredible. The Truckers without him are still quite awesome too.
What does Hank Jr kow about rock? ONly that he's been playing it since before these cats were born. His gouse growing up was filled with country and rock superstars and that is where he learned his music, not from his daddy. If it weren't for Hank Jr, DBT wouldn't have a stage to sing on! He opened the door for todays country and country rock artists. His music and legend speak for themselves. Not many can match them.
the dexateens, drivin n cryin/kevn (sic) kinney, fetchin bones, the jody grind, black oak arkansas, alabama shakes, harder stuff such as artymus piledriver, alabama thunderpussy, mayleena and the sons of disaster, david allen coe, 16 horsepower, woven hand, shortstack...i don't know, man, there's so many out there...hope i have been of use
I've lived around Britain and have not seen anyone to compare with these guys (and gal- I think its the bassists sister) if you know of Mad as F**** Gaz- you'll know that I speak the truth when I say- and we will never see anyone to copmare with them either.
DBT are the baddest rock band to come around in a long time! One question that has bothered me since I purchased the 40 watt DVD years ago.......who is the hot chick singing backup with Shanna at the end? Does anyone know?
That's your ass talkin', 'cause your head knows better!;) Hank's o.k., but he ain't in the same league with these folks, as far as Southern rock goes. These guys (and gal!) are on a par with Skynyrd (the real Skynyrd, not the remnants) and the Allman Bros. If you don't believe me, go see them. They'll blow your mind. And they won't show up drunk, spouting a bunch of fucking nonsense, either.
Mainstream country stations continue to play crap that's indistinguishable from soft pop, except for a trace of twang in the vocals and more socially conservative lyrics, yet THIS is what "country" was supposed to evolve into. WTF happened?
What??!! No one needs to cover this song. It's great the way it is, and it doesn't need to be on some shitty corporate run radio station. Hank Jr doin this song?? Nah, he wouldn't do it justice, maybe Hank lll, but I don't think he would want to mess with the genius of this song.
maybe he had more ambitious plans....no criticism, just an observation.....I think he saw the Truckers as too "stereotypical" and wanted to perform more complex arrangements and songs he had in his head
@coloredfuzz80 That title goes to Vic Chesnutt. What bothers me is as good as these guys are there are WAY better bands that fall into this genre. *cough cough Widespread Panic cough cough*
I'm from England, United Kingdom, I LOVE Drive-by Truckers, this DVD is played more than any other.. fuck yeah!
Buy a dvd called 'The dirty south' off amazon- its fu**ing fantastic and you will probably go buy all their albums afterwards- this song is the best I've ever heard because it really gives me the feeling that I'm 19 again and the urge for a beer and more volume.
Best working band on the planet, bar none.
Damn thats good
Isbell on guitar was the best. 🎸

Mike Cooley is the best damned songwriter of the last twenty years. Hands down. Maybe the best of all time. Drive-by is effing amazing.
yea, they play in tuscaloosa all the time at a couple bars across the street from the one I work in. I try and catch them every chance I get when they are in town. They put on a pretty damn good show.
Cooley- he's fu**ing RAW!
Song reminds me of my Grandaddy. Here's to all the Ridgerunners running down the Copperhead Roads in Heaven.
Absolutely AWESOME band, no matter who's in the line up.
This' one of my favourit Truckers songs. Great version! Thanks for postin' the video.
My favorite song by them!
People say rock died, radio rock died.
Damn I miss the days of these guys playing live at the Jupiter in Tuscaloosa for $20 with $2 beers.
Playing Nov 18th,...back on the Strip at DRuid City Music Hall.
Those were the good days.
Or at the booth on a Thursday night.
Has anyone noticed the Castrol oil commercial with this song riff in background. Greatest band ever their so rock, muscle shoals got the swampers, I wonder if anyone can connect Patterson and that song line.
Yeah his dad was in the swampers, and taught Shonna bass guitar.
tommy dargie , that's Mike Cooley doing the voice-over in that Castrol commercial.
ROCK AND ROLL.
If you ever want to see a real, honest-to-god rock show, take some time and see the Drive-By Truckers. You will not regret it.
Awesome vid, thanks for posting! It makes me play the air guitar SO HARD you guys.
if it werent for stuff like this being posted, I would never have found 90% of the bands I listen to... I love DBT, and its because of youtube I was able to discover them, I would have never bought cds and gone to concerts of theirs just by taking a chance
Best BAND EVER!
Isobel on slide guitar is absolutely complemetary to cooleys rawness- this is a band to drink beer to and enjoy the night with! As husker666 says- 'SOUTHERN ROCK AT ITS FINEST'!
Southern rock at its finest!
AWESOME!!!
Love these guys!
The young guy with the evil guitar is baby Isbell, 24 (?), not yet married to DBT bassist Shonna Tucker (?)... apparently on good behavior... I love them all...
Southern gothic at its best. This song is grade-A kick-a**.
@TRW077 The Loft also plays some DBT on Sirius XM as well.
Their best line up
Total. Nothing less. Total rock...
My. God.
amazing.

2:07 = pure greatness

Reminds me of David Allan Coe...awesome
dbt fucking rules!

EPIC

What is possibly better than this?
Ain't much...
+George Allee NOTHING!

Great performance. Who was singing 2nd backup in the last minute with Shonna?
I like this song, but the volume on this recording seems to be artificially loud. Is this how the dvd is?
No. I watched the DVD last night and it sounds amazing.
@justinspace77 because all of the other CDs close there little hole's in the middle knowning they've been had.
Too bad Isbell and Cooley couldn't stay in the same band with each other. Those two were even more badass than normal when working together.
maybe he had more ambitious plans....no criticism, just an observation.....I think he saw the Truckers as too "stereotypical" and wanted to perform more complex arrangements and songs he had in his head
"Didn't take a hole in the ground to put the bottom in their face"..... yeah....
@coloredfuzz80 Amen
