I remember watching this with my late father. He was most thrilled with Markarova’s Begin the Beguine, and Scotto’s Lady Macbeth. It’s great to revisit these gems.
Even though this is the partial broadcast of "Gala of Stars 1984", I sure do wish someone will ever upload the Complete Broadcast of Gala of Stars 1984", which first ever aired as part of the conclusion of PBS' Festival '84 Membership Pledge Drive on most PBS stations including my local station: KPBS in San Diego, California, Circa Sunday March 18th, 1984!! TV Worth Watching is TV Worth Paying For!!
Renata Scotto walked out Lady Macbeth and gave a powerful presentation! Very generous and well connected chest voice. I would have used in a few other places. Who are the other singers assisting?
Scotto was a controversial figure back then. I saw her many times onstage. Sometimes, as she was here, absolutely brilliant; other times, not-so-brilliant.
Hofmann‘s 2 most suitable Wagner roles were, IMO, Lohengrin & Siegmund but he was no real Heldentenor. He is still in reasonably good form in these selections.
This PBS "fundraiser" went so overbudget and caused the producing station WNET/13 such financial losses , it abandoned the production of these annual Gala of Stars going forward.

A hat trick of Gala uploads. Bonanza. Mil gracias, y paz.
Grandes Estrellas ¡Mas para mi, La Estrella más espectacular, Roberta Peters!🌟
God, who's more admirable than Itzhak Perlman?
The real gem of the evening for me is Natalia Makarova and Richard Cragun’s pas de deux in Roland Petit’s “Proust”.

Hoffman’s middle voice was still in fairly good shape here and actually quite beautiful.

Did Lucine Amara ever participate in these Galas? Or perhaps any of the concerts in San Francisco? If so could they be uploaded as well?
