+Karen Pitcher so, so glad you found us! This is a beautiful gift for a little girl!
Karen Pitcher hi. Oh how I wish your video was close captioned. I am totally deaf and would love the instructions.
This is the BEST tutorial I have found!! I am by NO means an experienced sewer and even "I" was able to make a bible cover for me!! Thank you!!
+JoAnn Dillon that is so awesome to hear! Thank you for watching and sharing that with us!
I love this project and the Shabby Shapes heart if a wonderful touch. Thank you, Linda Hardesty
+craftoncue it's the little touches that make projects fun, isn't it?! Thanks for watching!
What a wonderful project! I just finished mine and I just love it. Going to make more for gifts. Thank you for such great tutorial!
Make sure you press your seams everyone. Gotta press press press. I finished makig this today. I got my pieces cut then didn't like the choices I made (except the outer cover and keep the inner cover but changed it make handles with it instead) and then had to cut new inner piece and new inside book covers. So extra time but so worth it because now it looks much much better. I also didn't do the button loop because it's a cover my bible journal and it's going to get pretty thick so instead I tea dyed some seam binding pieces and attached them to the inside bible front cover and then covered with some pretty scrapbook paper and that will be my closure. It'll wrap around the Bible 2x now and later probably once and then wraps around the button to close.
Just an extra idea for a closure technique. Thanks for posting this. I had an idea of how to do but your video made it easier so I didn't have to figure it all out on my own. I also love love love your fabric colors and choices in the video.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment with all of these tips and tricks! So happy you created this project and share this with us!
Love it ❤! Thanks Jennifer for another great project!
+Tressie Carter thank you so much for the love and for your kind comment!
Excellent project! When I made one, I also put light weight interfacing inside the side pockets, so I could add pen pockets to the inside of my Bible carrier ! Thanks foe another great video!

I adore this! Great project for a winter afternoon. Thank you for making your videos.
+Katie Grazier thank YOU for watching our videos and for leaving a comment!
I love this. Thank you for being so kind to share this with the world.
Thankyou for the tutorial. I love how you coordinate your outfits to your displays.
Jen, I’ve looked at a lot of UA-cam videos on Bible covers. Yours is the best one out there. I did increase the width of the inside pockets and added a zipper pocket to the back. Thank you! P.s. forgot to also say how much I appreciate the free download for this project.
I LOVE the colors in the room she's in!!!! Everything matches, from the fabrics to her outfit
We have an incredible team that helps with the sets and makes sure everything is beautiful. :)

I love this...I can't wait to make one. I have a feeling I may be making a lot of these for friends!!! Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials! They are so cute and fun. I just taught my granddaughter to sew over the 3 days after Christmas using your tutorial on the pillowcases. She finished two while I was there and then when I left, she and her Mom went to the store and got fabric to make 4 more pillowcases! You are an inspiration!
+Sheila Hunt that is so exciting that she finished her own pillowcases! That is the perfect tutorial for a beginner to learn basic sewing skills! Thank you so much for watching and for leaving this lovely comment!
Love, love, love this gift idea!! I can't wait to make these for 3 very important people in my life. Thank you for this tutorial!!

I love how well you explain things, thank you so much. Making bible covers for everyone in our families bibles for christmas.
We're happy this project has inspired you. Thank you very much for watching!! -Michelle
I have watched you several times! I really appreciate your instructions! Plus you give a little extra info on why we do it and tell us on a couple videos it doesn’t have to be perfect and when it does need to be perfect and if we get a tuck we need to rip it out to fix it. Then it’s up to us if we want to fix it! I appreciate you! You make me want to really try stuff and not just collect!
We're happy you enjoy these projects!! Thank you for watching! ❤ -Michelle
Just got finished with one for my mother in law for Christmas. Thanks for the tutorial! Love it!

+tammy broughton so glad you were inspired by this tutorial- thank you so much for watching!
I was referred to this video from Crystalann, DIY Bible cover for Cricut Maker. It was my first sewing project with my Cricut Maker and LOVE how the Bible cover turned out! I have made four bible covers and currently working on my fifth, THANK YOU so much for this tutorial, your video also helped in the making of my Bible covers!!
Thank you so much for watching, and we're so happy to hear that your bible cover turned out beautifully and you love it! It's such a great feeling to make something that turns out well!
Loved this video and project Jennifer! Wish I had found this sooner for a Christmas gift! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Thank YOU so much for watching! This is a great gift for any time of the year - or you can get a great head start for next holiday season :)
Can’t wait to do this. I have an embroidery machine and will add something pretty on the front. Love your tutorials!
i made the Bible cover this evening and it really turned out cute. thanks for the tutorial.
+me k so happy to hear you made the Bible Cover and that it turned out cute! Thank you so much for watching!
Thankyou so much! And with my embroidery machine I'll be able to add that little bit extra! Great gift idea!!
+Cheryl Pearson added embroidery will be such a special touch! Thank you so much for watching!
Cheryl, When you embroidered, did you embroider your design before you quilted or after, or did you skip the quilting altogether. I want to do the same thing but am fairly new to embroidering with my machine.
Thank you so much. I've always wanted a Bible cover, this will come in handy for the huge Study Bible my pastor published, Jimmy Swaggart. God Bless
So glad this will be helpful! We'd love to see pictures when you're finished with the project. :)
Cant wait to make these, They are so adorable. My Bible needs a little covering as some of the pages are coming out. LOL
+Ann Philbeck so glad to hear you were inspired! Thank you so much for watching!
What a coincidence, I made book covers just like that 20+ years ago. But mine were made from handled grocery bags. They worked great, were they ever strong. Nice to see your design using fabric.
That is great to hear! This is a great project and love your creativity! Thanks for your comment! - Abby
I have made at least 5 Bible covers and am going to make a sixth one, thanks to this tutorial! I think it's time for me to make another one for myself! Very easy to make, Thank You!
We're so glad you've bene having fun! It's definitely time to make one for you. :) - Morgan
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I loved making my beautiful bible cover...
Thank you for watching! The Bible Cover is so fun! Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah
I made this for my granddaughters bible. It turned out so nice. Thank you so much!
We're very glad you enjoy this this delightful project. Thanks for watching!! 💖 -Michelle
Thanks SO much for this tutorial! I had an idea to make a Bible book cover but wasn't sure about how to take measurements to make one. This is a lifesaver. Thanks again
Really like this tutorial! I can think of a few friends for whom I would like to make this Bible cover. I could not locate the page/site where you have listed size, dimensions and how to determine pattern for any given Bible size. Thank you for your clear instructional videos. You make it easy for a newbie to sewing, like myself, to learn how to sew projects that I never considered I could make.
+susie czellar so happy you liked the video! Here is the link to the Bible cover dimensions/cutting guide: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/QuiltedBibleCover_forDownload.pdf
Excellent! But what I like best is the used Bible. Tells a story about the owner. ;) I will have to try this. I don't enjoy zippers and most of them have that, so this will be very easy. Thank you. Happy New Year!!!
+Terre Sexton You are right, sometimes zippers can be cumbersome on a Bible cover! Thank you so much for watching!
I made the bag it looks great. Thank you again for answering my question so fast. Would love to send you a picture of it. I did add a pin holder to the inside.
Jen, might you make an updated Bible cover video using a zipper closure, sort of a cross between this pattern and the lunchbox pattern?
What a wonderful suggestion!! We're glad you enjoyed this video!! -Michelle
I bought an extra-large bible (large print) and I couldn't find a cover that would fit on the market. Then I searched on YT and, of course, you had a tutorial. Thank you so much!!!! I added a pen pocket and some decorations to the front as well. God bless!!!!!
So glad you found this!! Great idea to add a pen pocket and some decorations! It's important to make projects with our own special touches.
I enjoyed making this Bible cover. It turned out to be so pretty and I'm sure the young girl who will be receiving this will love it. Thanks so much for this tutorial....... Now I'm going to make one for myself!
You're so welcome, and so glad you found it helpful and were able to make one! I'm sure that little girl will love it, and it'll be so fun to make one for yourself too! - Morgan
I never comment on videos but I must tell you that this was so easy to follow and came out great! Thank you.
We're happy to hear that you enjoyed this tutorial. Thank you for watching!! 💖 -Michelle
Wow, You published this podcast 7 years ago. Thank you so much. I look forward to making this cover. 🥰
We're glad we could inspire you with this project. Thanks for watching! -Michelle
I love how you always come through with brilliant sewing projects when I needed one although I might do this to my journal. Do you have any tutorial on sewing lace to fabric(i.e. crocheted lace).
Unfortunately, we don't have any tutorials involving lace! So happy to hear you'll be creating one of these covers for your journal :)
YEAH!!!!!! I DIDN'T KNOW. YEAH!!!!! THANK YOU!!!! YEAH!!!! YOU ARE THE BOMB DIGGITY!!!! YEAH!!!!
Love this..its so easy!! My question for you or anyone else, can this be made with the exterior in vinyl??
Hi Charlotte - You can definitely use a vinyl on the exterior, but just know that it may be a bit harder to turn through. Hope this helps! -Michelle
Love this tutorial but does anyone have suggestions on how to add a zipper closure
That's a great question! We haven't added one to this project, but maybe another viewer has and could share some tips! - Morgan
How much of a seam allowance did you use when you sewed the right and wrong sides together towards the end?
That is a quarter of an inch seam allowance! Ordinarily in our videos the seam allowances will be 1/4" unless we say specifically otherwise. However, if you're unsure it is always completely fine to ask! :)
Thank you so much for your videos and projects! I love this. Can you please share the dimensions you used for the video?
We're happy you enjoy this project! You can use the Free Download to help discern the dimensions you'll need: www.shabbyfabrics.com/free-downloads-and-video/253/how-to-make-a-quilted-bible-cover Hope this helps! -Michelle
Thank you. Looking forward to using this tutorial to make myself a bible cover. I have a non-sewing question. Your ring is beautiful. Is it a fully rounded dome?
Thank you for watching! In the video, Jen's ring has twisted around so you are only seeing the underside of the inset band that she wears! Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah
Thank you. I whould like to maje a cover with zipper all around can you make a tutorial or a link to one? Thank you
That would be a good idea! We did not choose to add a zipper to our cover; however, I have passed this on to our design team. You may be able to search UA-cam to find a bible cover tutorial that shows how to add a zipper. If you have any further questions please let me know as I am always happy to help! -Kyla
Thank you so much for the tutorial! Why is the outer fabric 1" wider and taller than the lining fabric?
Hello Andrea! In the free download, where you can find all the formula's to make the correct size cover, there is a not on the outer fabric that says you'll be trimming it to match the lining once it is quilted! Hope that helps! Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah
Thank you for this tutorial. I just got a new Bible that is a squarish shape, so now I can customize the size (and fabric!).
We're so glad you enjoyed this tutorial. Thank you very much for watching!! -Michelle
Book cover/ carrier. Fab make thank you. Not a fan of the god squad myself but it's an easily adaptable make for a novel or even sketch book. Thanks for another fab make!
+Helly Jenkins you are so right- this can be made to cover any book that you want to have a cover for! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Did you mention the seam allowance size for stitching front and back together?
Thanks for watching Diane! The seam allowance for stitching the front and back together is 1/4".
What is the name of the hearts fabric? I would LOVE to buy some of that same fabric for bible covers for the girls at my church! Thank you so much for the tutorial!
Unfortunately, we sold out of that collection a couple of years ago. However, we have this really cute collection that would make adorable bible covers! It's called Love Letters by Riley Blake: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Riley-Blake-Designs/Love-Letters.aspx
- Morgan
I only have cotton batting and medium fusible interfacing. Will this be ok?
I love this so much but when I go to your website it says that the page with the pattern is no longer available. :-(
Hi Keegan- the download for the Bible Cover should be all fixed! Thanks for helping us out with that :) www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/QuiltedBibleCover_ForDownload.pdf
I have never made a bible cover and was very excited to find this but I have a question. Why is the lining an inch smaller than the outer fabric. I made mine yesterday and had to cut the outer fabric down to match the lining size. What did I do wrong?
There is a note on the outer fabric box of the download that says to trim the lining to match the outer fabric AFTER quilting. ~Leah🙃
Beautiful, thanks so much, God bless u with many blessins in the new year (2016)
+Sewing, A Miracle Made thank you so much for your kind words! Blessings to you and yours!
how do I get the measurements? can't find the download you mentioned in the tutorial. this is a great tutorial and easy to understand. thank you
To get any of our free downloads you can click the link in the description box that says "Free Download" and then scroll until you find what you're looking for!
Here is the direct link to this free download, though: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Assets/Downloads/QuiltedBibleCover_ForDownload.pdf
I couldn't find the measurements page by going to Shabby Fabrics site, either. Then I looked in the links below this video and - voila! - there it was. Thank goodness. If the link wasn't there, I'd have been lost.
can I use fusible interfacing for both sides or do I need to use fusible fleece for the outside part of the cover?
We just like the loft and "puffiness" that fusible fleece gives, and you may find that fusible interfacing may be a little stiff and have to be broken in, but there isn't any reason you can't use it!
I am a new subscriber! You keep mentioning your "friction pens" and I would like to know where to get them... I searched Joann's and came up empty. I just can't wait to get started on the projects I have downloaded. I will let you know how they turned out!
Thanks in advance,
Kathy
Hi Kathy! Welcome! Thanks for subscribing! Can't wait to see your projects! We sell Frixion pens in our shop. Here is the link for that: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Frixion-Clicker-Pen-2-Pack-7mm-Black-P29462.aspx
Hi Jennifer ~ great video. I just made one for my friend. I will post a pic once I sew the button on. Was I suppose to sew this on BEFORE I completed it ?? Newbie to quilting/sewing but I'll figure it out. I didn't do the bookmark. On to my next project ~ Magic Pillowcase !! :D
+Cynthia DesLauriers you definitely sew the button on at the end. Can't wait to see a photo of your completed project! You will LOVE making the Magic Pillowcase!
+Shabby Fabrics I ended up sending the pics to Shabby Fabrics on Facebook.
One question: what about the extra length of the quilted outside vs the smaller lining? When do you trim them to match?
Hi Dee- Around timestamp 11:20 in this tutorial, you'll pin the quilted exterior to the sewn lining/interior, then you would trim the edges. Hope this helps! -Michelle
this definitely looks like something i must try :D i just have one question - i read in the downloaded file that the outer fabric should be 2''' longer and wider than the Bilbe, whereas the lining only 1''' - now as a sewing beginner who just started to sew like 6 weeks ago - i wondered why the difference of the 1''?
+Helen Standford this is to make up for the space created when the Bible opens and closes. The spine takes up more space on the outside so there needs to be extra fabric on the outside to account for that! This isn't needed on the inside because there isn't as much stretching or give needed for the inner portion for opening and closing! Hopefully that helps clear up your question!
+Shabby Fabrics thank you so much, yes, that helps :) + I just noticed the hint to *trim the outer fabric to match the lining after it's quilted, i had overlooked that before. very much looking forward to making this
Thank you for a wonderful project. May I ask what type of fusible interfacing you use on this project. Thank you 🙏
Hi Suzy! You can use the Pellon 950F ShirTailor Fusible Interfacing Non-woven: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Pellon-950F-ShirTailor-Fusible-Interfacing-Non-woven-P85645.aspx
Thank you for watching! - Sophie
i just made one... i love it! God bless you for sharing.
Thank you so much for watching! So glad you decided to give this project a try!
