- Ive seen this style of fly tied a few times on social media and always thought it looked great. I didn't have the spay hackle though that most tie with but I feel this CDL hackle seemed to work just fine. I ended up trying to make it my own and come up with something somewhat new here. Let me know what you all think.
I plan on trying to take it down to the coast for some redfish soon and see how it fishes. I will keep you all updated on my results. If any of you fish with this pattern before hand then give me a heads up on how it performed for you as well.
If you haven't already, check out my sponsor Risen Fly. They make awesome rods, reels, hooks, and anything else you need to fly fish. Go to www.risenfly.com and type in McFly at checkout for 15% off of your first order with them.

The chickens wanted a piece of that shrimp
lol ya they are crazy loud
This video timing is perfect! I’m attempting my first fly ever today. Ordered about $300 worth of materials online. Thank you for all the tutorials, they inspired me to get into this craft. I’ve never even fly fished but want to on my own flies
Awesome man! Good luck! Glad the videos help. I personally would start with something a little easier. Not that you can’t tie this for your first fly, it’s not terribly difficult however, when learning to tie, you want to learn the basics of tying first and not jump into something moderately difficult. For streamers I’d recommend a wooly bugger (for fresh water) or maybe a closer minnow (for saltwater). If you’re looking to tie trout nymphs, a zebra nymph (or variation). For dry flies a Griffiths gnat is great to start.
@@McFlyAngler clouser minnows are such a great fly to learn with
Hey, it’s been a while since saying hello. Hope you and the family had an enjoyable Christmas. That’s a really nice shrimp pattern with the brown tones and CDL feathers - a rib wound around that craft fur back would be cool and durable. Looks like it’s definitely get eaten! Best wishes for a blessed New Year.
Thank you! You too!
You are a great fly typer. Love your bideo
Thank you, very kind of you.
Black rubber antenna is the only thing I would add.
Good thinking
