Update: What I do here works for removing the axles in one piece. When installing axles, you have to make sure the tripod joint is intact. If you pull the joint too far, the rollers fall off inside and then you'll notice play. It won't flex more than about 25 degrees without popping apart, so you have to reinstall it straight and carefully. Tomorrow, I'll find out if you can install the intermediate shaft and then get the CV axle on without overextending the tripod joint or if the suspension has to come apart further to install the outer axle properly.

You should also watch ThePullUpKing's video on this job. He shows that it's pretty easy to just unbolt the strut from the lower control arm. Also, he points out you can use channel locks on the 32mm nut, which work if you release the tension on the joint the way I demonstrate.

They said why didn't you just buy a brand new CV axle and save yourself the headaches remember when you buy a luxury cars you got to pay to play😊

@@topnews1007 Yeah, you're kind of right. But at $1200 for just the outer axle, it's worth the extra hour of labor to swap the CV joint on the original axle. Plus, then you can get away with not having to separate the outer axle and the intermediate axle. I guess I mistakenly thought I could get both axles replaced for less than the price of a CV joint. Lesson learned.

@charvakkarpe we ran into the same problem but we end up changing both axles and differential fluids with the original parts

@@topnews1007 By "same problem", do you mean the part where the tripod joint has play because the rollers fell off? I just learned the hard way after putting the rebuilt original axle back in. The method I show only works to take the axles out in one piece. If you try to slide the whole thing back in the same way, flexing the tripod joint as far as you need to requires pulling it out, which drops the rollers and then you're screwed. The outer axle has to go in fairly straight. I'm going to do the job for the fourth time tomorrow, using the GSP axle again now that I took apart the tripod and put the rollers back on. Luckily, I have an Oetiker CV axle clamp kit for easily removing and reinstalling boots.

@charvakkarpe If you are planning to keep the vehicle you should only use factory parts and remember you got to pay to play that's what we tell every Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin Bugatti, Bentley, BMW and Mercedes-Benz customer
