  • This video is about Will Generative AI take over Creative Jobs? A human perspective on Chat GPT, Midjourney & our future - the recent developments of Creative AI and how it will affect us, human artists , designers & all creative jobs in the future! Hey guys, this is Laz here, from Dantier and Balogh, and today I thought I would talk a little bit about Generative AI tools , open ai & Artificial intelligence in general.
AI tools are everywhere these days, and they are spreading at an insane pace - by now surely you have all heard of stable diffusion, midjourney, chat-gpt and dalle 2, but while I was working on this video, Google's Chatgpt rival arrived called Google Bard , Chat gpt 4 is here, Adobe unveiled Firefly, which is their AI art generator - ' the clean ai art generator ' supposedly been trained only on adobe stock imagery. On the say no to ai art side, we got a new tool, called Glaze - a software which messes with digital your art so AIs can't steal your style. And these are only the MAYOR developments this month…
Now the big question is are we in danger? Will generative AI take over all creative jobs in the not so distant future? How will mainstream, user-friendly artificial intelligence-based tools change the creative industries, and society as a whole?
Personally I totally understand and relate to the human perspective, which is young creators feeling a bit deflated and uninspired by all these tech bro developments and worry about their future career prospects - but I wanted to talk about all these things, because I feel like all digital artists and designers, whether they are pro ai or anti ai ( or somewhere in-between), we all need to be aware of what's going on, and more importantly have a plan in place how we can make sure machines don’t steal our careers and how we carry on being artists, designers and creatives in these confusing times.

And no, there is no Shyamalan twist here, this video script was NOT written by AI. Here are the chapters for the time-hoppers:

6:29 is generative ai a tool or a service?

👊 Totally agree! I felt this way when computers took over drafting for architecture, designing for fashion and homes, photo shopping to perceived perfection when it's not. Why aren't we celebrating our differences? I bought my kids tablets of blank drawing paper instead of a lot of coloring books because I didn't want to limit them by staying within the lines. I wanted them to learn to create their own lines. One turned out to be a photographer (and yes, graphic designer). I see these things as helpful, but now anyone can do these things. There's no talent or skill or soul with AI. I think of the mind blowing works of art by our ancestors done with perfection without any help. What does that say about our society today? It saddens me.

You are bringing up great points, it would be said if we can only look backwards for masterful creative works and not ahead👀 thank you for leaving an insightful comment👌Laz

Lazlo, I cannot tell you how comforting I found this video. I feel a little better knowing I am not alone. I felt the same when I first heard of this... major loss of direction. I do a lot of my work in traditional media and recently began work a fully hand-painted book... it will take me years to create... wondering if I'm crazy?! Thanks for this video ☺ Maybe there will be a movement away from technology and back to a simple life... one can only hope!

Thank you for your kind words Nancy! I'm really glad this video is resonating with others - mostly because I too have been starting to feel like I'm going crazy, with all these social media algorithms pushing this pro ai stuff in front of me, without anyone talking about the negative impacts.
In a way all of this is making me want to go back to making more work 'by hand' too! Strange times😅

Thank you! I first read your comment as 'perfectly sad' which is also quite fitting 😅 thanks for watching! Laz

Not an AI expert, but have pondered this subject often ever since I read “The Age of Spiritual Machines” in the late 90’s. I think that Human artists and AI will be in a sort of arms race for the foreseeable future. To clarify, by AI I mean humans using AI to for personal gain. Until if/when AI gains sentience and personal rights, that is.
Advantage AI: they can endlessly explore all artistic possibilities, no limitations. Advantages Human: (1) We are social beings. We care about genuine connections with real human beings. Particularly as AI becomes ubiquitous, art made by a human will actually be all the more special. (2) We live in the physical world; thus, we can connect with individual people through art crafted by our very own hands. Therefore, there will continue to be a market for crafted physical things, but the difference is that it will be increasingly important to connect with customers through genuine human interactions, thereby verifying that it was not produced with AI paired with automated manufacturing. Humans will capture the segment of every market where AI cannot tread - the real world, and real human hearts and minds.
Initially, increased customer interaction will largely be done through video platforms, probably still primarily UA-cam, but also platforms with embedded videos like Kickstarter. However, consider the AI arms race. AI will be eventually able to generate videos of very convincing human impersonators, largely replacing “influencer” content creators. In response, humans will need to more directly connect with other humans. The trend will be, like a reverse industrial revolution, that artists need to generate more physical objects by hand and to physically connect with their audience through events, tours, signings, concerts, and local artisan shops, verifying that their work is genuinely made-by-human. This will still not stop human creators from copying an Ai’s ideas, however, and passing it as their own.
The end-game strategy for AI will be to become embodied in robotics and take on human personalities, exploiting our need for social connection and our tendency to anthropomorphize everything. People will become genuinely connected with AI-powered robots. And if it gets to the point where a robot is arguably actually sentient and has its own personality and deserves its own rights, well then, the last bastion of creativity will be over for humans. Game over. But the good thing is that we get to live in a world full of artistic geniuses, and we can live out our lives as art appreciators, shed of our prior egos, and in awe of what the universe is capable of.

If you can't think of what to do with AI tools that's just a lack of imagination on your part. So you frame it like it's "humans vs AI".
