"Prepping," although the term hadn't been coined yet, was an everyday thing for my gran's generation. Every time she went shopping she bought an extra couple of tins etc. Having brought up a family during WWII, she knew what it was like to go short.

Wow!! That was actually really good considering it was main stream. I think it did exactly as it was intended and made being prepared a bit more main stream.
It does make you think a bit “why now” but it’s interesting they’re going this way.

I agree, usually it's a hatchet job and they drag on some nutter who makes us all look crazy.
      As for why now?
They have kind off made half arsed announcements this year already but nothing so public or with the Web page advertised etc.
Could be any reason, they have suddenly realised how unprepared society is or escalating conflicts in the world or a bit of everything?

@@Scottishprepper73 I think they’ve realised how completely unprepared we are as a country due to lack of investment into the right infrastructure like countries in Europe have and possibly already realised how behind the 8 ball they are and this for now is the best they can come up with. Which makes other announcements very interesting honestly.

A few of things I saw.
Throughout the interviews, the presenters referred to "prepping" that's to say "to prep" rather than saying "preparing" from the start. An odd choice in my view to refer to it in the "third person!" This, to me is to keep from the question of what are we preparing for now?
The prepper shop was undoubtedly happy to be there. He's talking to the likes of us here. I do wish, however, that the talk was more about the use, rather than the cost. No one soke about just having more of the same at home!
The woman was the "soft sell" to the guy's hard sell! She was the "professional" opinion that we could trust! She's not hard on the eyes, and her attitude was one of "been there, done that" that was actually accepted by the interviewers.
The two reporters did amicably with their time. Not too silly, and bringing the conversation down to earth by asking about the hammer, etc.
This was not the hit piece that we come to expect.

    • @Scottishprepper73

Yep, agree. It's usually a hatchet job when it comes to this area but the presenters were fair in the representation

Thing that gets me is they label it *The 'Preppers' ready for the end of the world* basically mocking people already, that they are some kind of loony toons, when they should have labelled it *are you prepared for any unforeseen circumstances* or something a long them lines as from what i know of the prepping community which isn't a lot but enough its more people getting ready for if or when something unforeseen happens and worse case scenarios, i used to be one of those people until 2020 thinking preppers was all doom and gloom end of the world people but they aren't as i quickly learned they are people just being cautious or a lot of them are and just making sure they have things at hand they may need one day to get by.

I think the info given by the woman is more accessible/relevant to non preppers or those just starting out; hazmat/surplus doesn't appeal to everyone. Personally don't see any scaremongering, and the interviewers seemed interested. One of the better msm offerings.

It might do the prepper community a great deal of good - as in increasing our numbers - as that nice lady on the telly is a "prepper" so maybe her audience will follow her lead and start to get in a few extra.

Great advice from Lincoln there - 25yrs shelf life !!! - bloke is a total muppet. We have family who run an Asian Supermarket/Warehouse business.
During the recent health crisis they had various ethnic groups come through buying stuff and guess who were the last ones to come in?
The further that a particular demographic is from hard times the less likely they are to think that it could happen again or will happen to them imo.
People putting little labels like fear mongering on things just tells me that they have no real clue.
Sucks to be them when it all goes wrong I reckon.
