"You Really Got Me" is a song written by Ray Davies for English rock band the Kinks. The song, originally performed in a more blues-oriented style, was inspired by artists such as Lead Belly and Big Bill Broonzy. Two versions of the song were recorded, with the second performance being used for the final single. Although it was rumoured that future Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page had performed the song's guitar solo, the myth has since been proven false.
"You Really Got Me" was built around power chords (perfect fifths and octaves) and heavily influenced later rock musicians, particularly in the genres of heavy metal and punk rock. Built around a guitar riff played by Dave Davies, the song's lyrics were described by Dave as "a love song for street kids."
"You Really Got Me" was released in the UK on 4 August 1964 by Pye Records as the group's third single, and reached number one on the UK singles chart the next month, remaining for two weeks. It was released in the US a month later on 2 September by Reprise Records. The song became the group's breakthrough hit; it established them as one of the top British Invasion acts in the United States, reaching number seven there later in the year. "You Really Got Me" was later included on the Kinks' debut album, Kinks. American rock band Van Halen adapted the song for their 1978 self-titled debut album; it was released as their first single and peaked at 36 on the Billboard Hot 100.

What an enhanced sound...!!!
They were so groovy. Got that fuzz sound from their guitars by poking holes
in their speakers. No fuzz boxes in those days.
absolutely love...we danced wild to this beat- how uber cool they were on all 1960's levels!!
my favorite by Kinks, the gateway to Punk Rock
This is Fantastic, one of the best bands ever! I absolutely love the black and white video. Oh how I miss the old days!
I love how this video was all pieced together with what almost looks like it would've been shot like I shot music acts on stage for news coverage on our 6pm or late newscasts.
Memories, great song. The kinks have always been one of my favorite. Thanks 😂🎸🎵🎶💌
It jumps out of the speakers!!!
A fantastic classic that now makes me feel decades younger again. The perspective of the video is really interesting - super! Many thanks, Sammy - have a top weekend! Cheers, E.H.
I agree, E.H. Thanks very much for listening to The Kinks. Cheers.
Great❤
Very good
Simple really fantastic👍👍👍
Best thanks for upload!
Most welcome 😊
Interesting video....must've been someone filming who had the band's permission to film onstage....its a different look but I will never argue with the great rocking Roll classic..thanks for posting this look
Thanks Kelly.
This is part of a 20 minute concert film of the Kinks in Paris, 1965 (very early 1965 from the looks of it). It's an excellent video, the best I've seen of them from this early a date. The sound is pretty good and the crowd is into it. You can find it on youtube.
@@chrisbotelho7212 i actually think its from the iceland concert ua-cam.com/video/t3oe0k9KyOA/v-deo.html
Great syncing of the stereo mix to HQ video Sammy.
Thanks again Jacob.
That's how i feel around the kinks: The guy at :49 in the front row on the left.
You could see how much he wanted to get up and start dancing. Did you notice the police walking around in the aisles?
Video looks like Iceland
Adoráveis💙🖤🤍🤎💙🖤🤍🤎
Without the sounds of the girls screams...it sorta okay anyway. Thanks!.
