I've owned my JV-1080 so long I don't even remember where I bought it. I also had a Roland XP-50 using the same synth engine which got fried by bad wiring at a Holiday Inn, flames and all. Thanks for the video. Classic sounds.
I was watching all your videos, and this one just reminds me how much I love my XP80, which is the keyboard version of your beloved 1080! Never gonna part with it, this sound module is awesome!
I bought my JV-1080 off EBay for £200 just over a decade ago, I also have it fitted with 3 SRJV expansion boards including the Orchestral expansion board. Today I played around with some custom patches I made just by tweaking the waveforms, I have mainly made custom bell patches, this sound module has beautiful sparkly bell patches and moving pads as well as e pianos that are still useable in both modern or 90s indie productions. It is still possible to produce complete backing tracks entirely on the JV-1080 with or without the expansion boards but the drum kits are OK as long as they are not overused.
I’ve already bought this toy. I want to really say it. I’m falling in love. Sounds really good. Piano, electric and rodhes are excellent. Sounds as xp80. But better.
I bought one just to house my SRJV80 cards because the JD990 can only hold one.. and omg I ended up falling in love with the JV1080. I use it far more than the JD990
@@Iofflight78 really? is the jv1080 better than the JD990 in your opinion? I have the XP50, but thinking to snap up the JD990 because its for sale here now, good price and with 1 expansion card
@@AnalogFlava I'm probably an outlier but I found that for the stuff I write the JV was more useful. I of course kept both and swapped out the screen for white on black LCD. looks great.
Thanks a lot! If you can get one for a decent price you won’t be disappointed. I sold mine a year ago but bought another because I missed that specific 1080-sound. Sold the 1010/2080/5080 but the 1080 just sounds different and that’s why I re-bought it.
This is definitely a classic rompler rack. I sold mine but I still kept the XV5080. The good think is that now all these sounds are available in the Roland Cloud and they sound pretty spot on to the originals.
roland cloud is awful... super expensive and you loose everything if you dont keep paying your $200 subscription every year !! it sucks .. just buy the hardware while you still can !

lol ya! I got this just to know how beautiful is the famous "009 MIDIed Grand". And it's an incredible sound, made with 4 layers... The curious thing is that the AC piano(001 64voicePiano) wich is one of the layers is not good by itself, but with the other 3 layers it sounds great!
@@humansrants1694 It does have use attack as a form of velocity switching and it's possible to set certain waveforms to only sound at a certain velocity.

marqush you’re right, the piano sounds are really good. And these are just presets. Imagine the SR-JV piano card. Today those machines are cheap. Too cheap for what they can offer.
marqush that’s a Roland S-330 sampler. You can monitor all incoming MIDI channels. I also use Director-S to sequence external machines. Old school and very nice. Before you know it you’re out of memory 🤗
Yes, real hardware :D. Something funny...the mouse for the Roland S-330/S-550 is a MSX-mouse, although it has a serial connector. They claim that the software is also based on MSX-software.

I love how you played each patch a different style... playing it differently for the rhode sounds than the same for pianos. I dig it!

And on top of that I love the keyboard of the XP80. It plays very nice. It's a great machine and you're totally right not to ditch that piece of gear.
I've been trying to find the sound @ 6:44 forever! That is the coolest and smoothest sounding one IMO!!!
Oh , I love those Roland JD and JV synth modules, great channel, instant sub!
