The hurdy gurdy is such an ominous sounding instrument, I wish it were in more metal bands. Anyone know any bands that use it? All I know of is cellar darling
It isn't necessarily, but it can be. Here, we have an electrified gurdy (treble or tenor?) with three melody strings tuned one fifth apart, and playing in parallel fifths (organum). I've done the same thing with a concertina, and can even make the Bob Dylan tune "Blowing in the Wind" sound heavy and doom-laden.
Not. There aren't any factories that make hurdy-gurdies (apart from the Chinese "instruments" which are badly made and best avoided and cost more to modify than they're worth) so it's down to individual luthiers who can't mass-produce them. Usually ordered from the maker. I think that Michalina made this one herself, and her instruments are highly regarded. Occasionally a good second-hand instrument will come up on the market, but still not cheap.
This was one of the greatest covers of any song I've ever heard. I listened to it like 5 times in a row right when it came out. Great job!
Thank you so much! :)

Lyrre, and Eluveitie - Michalina plays or has played in both.
Also, check out Faun! Their tracks feature hurdy gurdys fairly often
