So the story of The Rose is kind of interesting. I believe Dojoon and Woosung were idol trainees (can’t remember if Hajoon or Jaehyeong were). They became friends and Dojoon happened to be a member of this indie band called Windfall with Hajoon and Jaehyeong. They recruited Woosung because they were looking for another member. Initially resistant, Woosung eventually joined their band and told the label he was training at to sign on his band members instead of making him go solo. They did, so for a few years after their debut in 2017 they were making music as an idol band under J&STAR. However, The Rose grew frustrated because they felt they weren’t being paid enough for the work they were putting in and sued their agency. The Rose won and the original Windfall members went to serve their mandatory military service while Woosung held down the fort by starting his solo career under an agency made by himself. When the others finally completed their service, they reunited with Woosung and returned to making music under their self-made indie label Windfall. So basically, they were an indie band, became an idol band, and then went back to being an indie band.
That is very interesting. I wonder what made them decided to forgo being a typical indie band to become an idol band. What kind of incentives or promises were made by their agency. You'd think that not being locked into a idol contract, they'd have more freedoms.
The Rose actually debuted in 2017, I was lucky enough to see them 2018 when they came to Melbourne Australia. Thankfully after all that happened with their agency they have been able to not only continue but to keep their name. They have so much talent and can go so far so it was such a scary time not knowing if they would be able to continue. you should check out all their other songs as they are fantastic and worth the effort. Other great bands from Korea are N.flying, CN Blue, FT Island (although they are no longer active).
Thanks so much to reacting to The Rose❤ I def recommend another KBand called HOPPIPOLLA. HOPPIPOLLA is a band that combines CLASSICAL MUSIC with the electric ACOUSTIC GUITAR. They were formed by the survival show 'SuperBand' and there are 4 members in it. They are a phenomenal band and it would be amazing if you could listen or react to their song 'Enough''. Woosung was born in Korea but raised in California. Dojoon went to school for several years in New Zealand. All the guys were trainees but by the time Dojoon and Woosung met, Woosung was not in a company and was trying to pursue a solo career. Woosung likes to curse, you should check out his solo stuff. I love Modern Life and Hangover.
100% recommend more of their music like their songs sorry and shes in the rain not really related to the rose but koreas been changing a lot lately many of the artists kpop and non kpop seem to be more in control of their music (obv give or take some artists from some labels) but example bts, txt, le sserafim, seventeen, enhypen etc all from hybe labels have all been swearing in their songs (tbh bts have always sweard since predebut in 2012 along with always being able to write and produce their own music but the others are newer) also groups like kard, g-idle, mamamoo etc like the industry seems to be changing a lot. theres a lot more artists fighting to get released from their labels and winning and either going solo or staying together while other labels seem to be changing for the better and letting the artists be more hands on. you should def get back into korean artists :)
