In the rapidly evolving landscape of emerging markets, the role of R&D is pivotal in pioneering advancements and ensuring sustainable growth. As we stand on the cusp of a technological revolution powered by spatial computing, including augmented and virtual reality, there is a compelling need for higher education institutions to bridge the existing gaps. These gaps are not only technical but also educational, particularly in enhancing spatial reasoning skills which are crucial for leveraging the full potential of spatial computing technologies. Our proposed fireside chat aims to explore how higher education and R&D can collaboratively foster an environment that not only accommodates the burgeoning demand for spatial computing but also adheres to the highest standards of research practices. This is especially critical in a market-driven landscape where the rush to innovate often sidelines these fundamental practices. Through this dialogue, we intend to underscore the importance of an integrated approach that prepares the next generation of professionals to thrive in and contribute to the sustainable development of this exciting field.
