Thank you for getting back to Kate, this song is from Kate's 3rd studio album "Never For Ever" on which Kate was co-producer, it was also the 1st album that Kate started to use the Fairlight CMI after coming across it when working with Peter Gabriel on his 3rd album. The gun clicks are samples captured by the Fairlight.
In terms of UK chart performance it went straight in at number 1, a first for a female artist, I remember this album very well as it was a birthday present, when I got it I immediately played it on the turntable even though my friends wanted to get down to the pub! 😀
Here are some suggestions for other Kate songs, from the same album "Never For Ever" two other single releases:
    📌Babooshka
    📌Breathing
From Kate's next album "The Dreaming" Kate was sole producer, you have already reacted to a few tracks from this album - e.g. Sat In Your Lap, Houdini - so see what you make of the following:
    📌The Dreaming
    📌Suspended In Gaffa
    📌There Goes A Tenner
For non-single release from this album, you could try:
    📌Get Out Of My House
From the "Hounds Of Love" a single release that isn't in your playlist is the title track:
    📌Honds Of Love
Stepping back in time to Kate's 1st two albums, I have some suggestions for some album tracks, so from the debut album "The Kick Inside" another title track:
📌The Kick Inside - NOTE: for a video I suggest the performance that Kate did for "TopPop" a Dutch music programme when they broadcast a Kate Bush special filmed at De Efteling
Then from "Lionheart" the 2nd album, I suggest:
    📌Coffee Homeground

The only video I believe that Kate was ever 100% happy with. She was always the perfectionist! Written during the height of "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland which I am sure influenced this song (Kate had an English father and an Irish mother). Also banned from BBC playlists during the Falklands War. If you have not reacted to it already you should listen to "Breathing" from the same album as "Army Dreamers". It is about nuclear war (growing up during that time period it felt like an almost inevitable event). P.S. Don't forget to vote for Kate for the R&RHOF!

This song was written during "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland. Kate, whose mother was from Irish roots, sing this one with Irish accent. At the same time it had attracted a lot of controversy in England, for obvious reasons, when It was released, became, surprisingly, a UK top 20 hit (at #16) too and was a minor hit all around the world (Continental Europe, Brazil, Japan, Australia and NZ, etc) but not in the USA (no surprise, coz American audience always have had big resistance to Kate and indie\avant gard\alternative UK acts). I suggest you Rooster to looking for, here on UA-cam, a theatrical version Kate and band made of Army Dreamers for a live TV show in (then) West Germany. It's priceless . BBC banned this song (plus a lot more from several artists) during the Gulf War.

That explains why this video was blocked worldwide for me when I uploaded and had to wait out the review period. Crazy that Kate never saw more success in the US...

You mention Kate’s eye’s blinking at the sound “of a reload”. That’s right....but it’s also the sound of a camera click. Her eyes blink, recording the pain of each scene on her memory. There’s a great performance of this track affectionately titled “Mrs Mop” at ua-cam.com/video/5_jEOj0Exi0/v-deo.html

In Kate's own words Army Dreamers:
“Is about a mother who lost her son overseas. It doesn't matter how he died, but he didn't die in action - it was an accident. I wanted the mother to be a very simple woman […] a grieving mother who, through the death of her soldier boy, questions her motherhood […] The song was meant to cover areas like Germany, especially with the kids that get killed in manoeuvres, not even in action. […] I'm not slagging off the Army, it's just so sad that there are kids who have no O-levels and nothing to do but become soldiers, and it's not really what they want. That's what frightens me […] It's [...] embracing the whole European thing. That's why it says BFPO in the first chorus, to try and broaden it away from Ireland […] It's not specifically about Ireland, it's just putting the case of a mother in these circumstances, how incredibly sad it is for her. How she feels she should have been able to prevent it.”
As to her use of an Irish accent, she adopts it for what she saw as musical reasons. Kate said:
“The Irish accent was important because the treatment of the song is very traditional, and the Irish would always use their songs to tell stories, [...] There's something about an Irish accent that's very vulnerable, very poetic, and so by singing it in an Irish accent it comes across in a different way.”
So, "Army Dreamers" is not about Ireland or the Cold War, or any other conflict. It is actually really about the army in peace time (despite the ‘Cold War’), and is not so much anti-army as it is anti-denial of opportunity and prospects to people on the basis of class, poverty, or early life disadvantage. Kate was always very insistent about this aspect of the song - the blight of a dead end with no opportunity that leaves young people with nothing else. The song is far more a commentary on economic or social policy than a discussion of the rights and wrongs of when or whether to resort to war.

kate bush talking about ''army dreamers '' the entire meaning of it ie a waste of life.... To americans it's considered (un american ) and to suggest that to join up in the US military and fight and die for your country is unpatriotic thats why this song never took hold in the US it goes up against everything they [americans] think about themselves from the days of the founding fathers and the 2nd amendment the right to bear arms for them the sight of returning dead US soldiers in coffin draped in american flags is like a religious experience a crusade of righteousness against evil the US military top brass have perfected the ceremonial of returning dead GI's being paraded .with all the fanfare more than any other country, they glorify war and the fallen .
which, is totally opposite to other countries who remember the wars and of remembrance of the fallen and honour the dead of their sacrifice is not to glorify it but to acknowledge it with reverence the horrors of war

The song is not about American soldiers.... The song had zero radio airplay and promotion in America....in 1980, America just didn't know about it. To be disagree with it.

@isobeljames1328 us, British know what the song is about she is has Irish roots that's a clue .
And we know it's got nothing to do with Americans you T OOL , but that doesn't stop Numpty Americans posting shite about the song,
We all know it's about the catholic and protestants community sectarian killings, over in Northern Ireland known as the" Troubles" that had it's beginning hundreds of years ago , the British army we sent over to keep the peace it's presence to stop the killings which prompted the IRA which was funded buy the so called patriotic Irish/Americans, who have never set foot in Ireland unlike myself I'm from Belfast.and as a kid in the 80s seen and heard explosions going off and the violence
instead, have a romantic rose tainted view they see the IRA murders as freedom fighters blowing up civilians in northern Ireland and the mainland UK Terror tactics and British soldiers again are clueless ignorant of the historical past
So what your point Kate Bush did not promote her songs across the pond simply because she didn't want to be bothered with touring nonsense going over there she was more then quite happy to stay where she was thank you very much ok fella
