I'll leave a quote from the Scent & Chemistry fb page, dated Aug 2015:
Having spend some time with some (more or less famous) perfumers lately, without mentioning names, a few statements lingered in our minds and chasten:
► Perfumery will always be conservative, and it will worsen the more challenging the environment and the market gets.
► As the niche segment is now more challenging, it might become even more conservative than mainstream if that wasn't already the case.
► Almost everything has been done, a really novel concept is perhaps seen and smelt every 2-3 years max.
► Even individual perfumers often confine themselves to a few well-worked themes they master, using the same palette of ingredients.
Adding to this the fact that everything now is focus-grouped and the explosion of niche market led to almost every designer house having their private collection, the result is a dull, non-innovating same all mainstream production of these houses
