They are bishnupriya therefore they don't know how to dance and skill out their talent they are also handling the instrument wrongly...this instrument was fused with vaishnavism during the rise of vaishnavism in Manipur but it was originally firstly made from the skin of ox so called leather by our forefathers mentioned in chaitharon kumbaba and named this instrument as pung which is also written in chaitharon kumbaba.. In Hindu culture cow is worshipped as God and they forbid killing cow then how come they become using it in front of their mahaprabhu who is very fond of cow and love cow??
In Vaishnavism ,harming any animal including cows are not to be killed and eaten bcoz of the bhakti culture. That doesn't mean u can't use what's available in nature . There r two ways to earn skin for is pung or dhol or dhlak or Nagara ..
1) give ur important or do seva to the vyadh man who is a hunter in profession and follower of shakt or shaiva parampara and in return ask for a leather skin. Or u can ask him to collect dead bodies of the animal ,in forests vyadhas r known for their talent to hunt both live and dead animals coz they extract materials from that animal for other purposes. As a vaishnavite u can't show disgust towards a person who is bound by occupation or is a behavioural meat eater. So by this method we get cruelty free material coz they r mostly made up of already dead animal's hide. It is not hate or disgust it is merely about cruel or peaceful.
2) synthetic skin it is cheap and widely used completely free from cruelty
