A good old mystery is perfect for midnight watching. 😯😯
Can you just imagine the amount of “sticky fingers” after the war? How many servicemen, officers and even normal citizens ended up filthy rich at the end of the war? Or even very well off. There was friggen train loads of gold and cash in country after country. There’s NO way it was all kept track of!
Many items that 'sprouted legs & walked off' 😉 during the war. Have popped up all over the place over the years. It's still going on to this very day.
A few years ago a valuable painting that was looted during the war was discovered. Hanging in the museum at the University of Utah. The man who donated after his death had 'acquired' it while he was serving in Germany.
After a close inspection it was discovered that it was on the list of stolen property. Wanted by the Monuments Men commission, & it was eventually returned to its rightful owners.
I mean if you get shelled for 5 years and survive it you deserve a bit more then a medal and a parade when you get home.
How about the pallets of cash shipped to the middle east a few yrs ago?????..have heard stories about that .

The lost SS gold most likely made its way to South America with the SS commanders who made it there
it's possible. do you think the union will reunite again, or isn't it possible that we never lost contact with each other as a community? or brotherhood?

Most likely ended in the hands of the architects of the war....the bankers.
@16:07🔍
Didn't know the Nazis had the new $100 bills back then. To say they were ahead of the times is an understatement.
I know right, and the guy in the submersible was looking for new species of worms. Why am i watching this.
They time traveled to get those franklins. Die Glocke
The Nazis also used Jewish artists to make fake "pound notes". Several years ago a lake was inspected and a stash of "pound notes" was found.
Yes...the video is absolute garbage.Incidently Himmlers niece married an Israeli post war....and that's a fact.
Lots of lost treasures including art, artifacts, jewels and more were found some years back in Texas. A soldier was mailing things to his family in Texas. But apparently he never sold any of it off, they recovered almost everything from his children.
There is definetely still gold and treasures unaccounted for in those regions. Just the same as treasure is here from the carribean pirate days. It still turns up from time to time. And it may not be huge caches but there are probably even a couple of those still out there.
Pirate treasure is always tough. Because, Pirates.... don't use large enough chests. Always spilling over....
the guy with the fake gold presented a valuable lesson, if you find gold, keep your mouth shut
people find things and want to/have to brag about it, shhhhhhhhhhh, cash in and shut up aslready!
Right! lol
Which is why no one heard what happened to the remaining gold. Why would anyone living know the location of immense wealth and not use it?
@@jackjones9460 & that’s what Swiss bank accounts are for hon. The Swiss (& a few other countries) are rather well known for their. We ask no questions & give out no information when asked banking systems.
This is just me but if I was someone hiding gold with Germany falling down around me, I would have sealed it with rocks and dynamite and made sure it could not be found except by me, not just leave it at the bottom of a lake. The real treasure may be sealed away forever, those who knew its location took the secrets to their grave.

Outstanding video! Love your channel!
If you had read any books about the war, you’d have been able to spot the errors and hyperbole as easily as I did. People should never think that they’re learning anything about any subject from documentaries….there are many errors and a great deal of hyperbole in this episode to a disappointing degree. But I know this bc I _have_ been reading about this war, for 35 years. I watch videos like this when I can stand to in order to see historic footage, but I was so disgusted that I had to stop watching before 7 minutes ticked over.
@@voraciousreader3341that's the really frightening thing, our children are being educated by 10 second tiktok videos at worst, and this at best. History is gradually being rewritten in the minds of future "historians"
The Battle of the Bulge is a perfect example of why the Germans would not have been able to make much of their Alpine Fortress - no gas. All the military equipment in the world won't do you a bit of good.without oil.
A fascinating and very well made production.
I recognize Strub Kaserne. I was stationed there for a year 02/81-01/82. Our community HQ building had a conference room in it which had a great carpet covering the floor. The eagle and swastika was built into the floor and had to be covered as it could not be structurally removed without causing great harm to the building. We did some bunker hunting. It was amazing.
i was stationed at Pioneer Kaserne
I was a Dutch soldier between Hamburg und Bremen. During large scale Nato excersizes, we were always told, men, we should be glad we can practice things we can't possibly do at home. Deutschland is a lot larger than the Netherlands. So, behave yourselves, please. When you know that even the Dutch had occupied a small part of Germany after WW2, though during the 80's that was pretty long ago, it is always good to know why I actually was a draft soldier in Germany. Think about that, why did those armies stay in Germany for so long? I believe the Americans have not even gone home today. No wonder Mr Putin is worried. The nuclear missiles, you know. Sure Putin is not exactly a saint, but do you see those conservative Russians do have a point? And I do not like a Second Cold War at all. No matter who is right or wrong, we all should stop the situation of super powers being afraid of each other. Build schools, not kasernes. Do you see why? Nobody really wants war!
In my home town, we got the problem of the national police school during WW2. These policemen were bloody fanatic and dangerous, if you had done something wrong. But still, a friend told me of an exception. People walking long distances, looking for some food, were supposed to be back at 8 in the evening. But there was a large German soldier, who was known to wave his hand: hurry, go home! He risked quite a bit, but my town knew, that one soldier would not report you to the police. Which is great. A friendly enemy soldier.

The Southern Alps are Very Beautiful 👍
Yes they are !!! My family lived there from 1974-1977.
Yes very beautiful. I made a lot of hiking there. Bayern, Bier und Berge!
But I never understood how it could be feared as a fortress. No oil, no raw materials, nothing to produce weapons: just a convenient place to resist or to hide for a while in some remote Berghütten, without any mean to launch an offensive from there.

Fascinating.
Of course Otto didn't fly to Spain with gold he put it in a Swiss bank.

Maybe a painting by Botticelli or Vermeer would be sufficient?
Just think Tom Segura bought Hitlers teacup on the black market for over 20,000 dollars and gave it to Bert Kreischer for his birthday.

The SS gold is long gone they came back for it after the war and it's long gone. Now the smaller caches are gold or still out there. Meaning regular soldiers had this crated gold or had that and then tell anybody about it. Maybe they were killed forgot about where it was after they retreat it. But most of that gold was reused to rebuild Germany. There's so many videos in the 60s and 70s of waffen SS soldiers coming together celebrating their reunions. And they are with the regular army and tank commanders. Are you telling me all these guys didn't know where the gold was sure they did.
I agree. No doubt a lot of gold was stashed away. But no one and I mean no one is going to forget about it and leave it. I think that its very highly unlikely that any went unclaimed.
75mil+ ppl met an early and sudden death in ww||. I'm sure some of them hid their wealth and it has not been discovered yet. The numbers are just to staggering.
75 million people... 🤷🏼♂️ You think we found every hiding spot? I definitely don't think so. We found money I hid as a kid on Easter like 15 yrs later. 😂
He forgot to mention the "WMD's" but I guess in those days it was "wunder weapons".
I believe it was a misunderstanding, a verbal typo if you will. They weren't talking about an "Alpine Redoubt", they were talking about the "Argentine Reroute"...
13:00 the Hordon was never going to fly as a stable platform without fly by wire computer inputs, ask Lockheed about that.
Actually it did fly, the problem was it was only stable at a certain speed range. It was also a pain to steer (as is the case with flying wings) its only real purpose was a a bomber.
@@smtx2117 yup, still absolutely amazing. Took how many years before another flying wing would take to the skys?
That may b true about HORDON but the HORTEN 229 V3 certainly did just as allies were advancing & yankees got hold of it.

Excellent
So you expect me to think that little log has been there since WW2
the one that's saw cut on both sides XD these theatrical reincarnations are such a joke. As if they're going to pick up live UXO from 80 years ago bare handed.
Can anyone imagine if Germany had been able to mass produce these weapons. The world as we know it would be completely different. Scary.
The Germans ended up on the scary end of that argument with thousands of tonnes of bombs falling on industrial centres and towns. Destroy a city, just 2 to 4 kilotonnes of conventional bombs from one thousand aircraft, and viola a smoldering ruin.
Would it?
Amazing document for this final episode of the Third Reich
I heard on another very informative video that the Allies had made Germany pay twice - they too had made no attempt to try to return confiscated or seized illegally the valuable gold etc but quietly took it away but then they struck treaties for Germany making war reparations. So honestly speaking although both sides lost millions of lives in the end tally there were people of the same nature on both sides😮
Yep. All these heritage and protected areas & habitats seem to be inconvenient places. Must be they knew people wouldn't be able to search there.
Wow . I am an avid Historian. Never have I seen information like this re WW2 . Please also research the Italian POW in South Africa under Paul Kruger The British a sent them to South Africa during the war in North Africa ie Egypt. I believe we as South Africans treated them well. They have added so much value to our country and are very much integrated into our South African Famiglia. I believe they also need a voice and for the Italian community to be heard. I am proudly Afrikaans but was taught this great history oof mater builders, engineers and well FAmiglia from an early age .
Well, I am glad to hear that the Italian POWs ended up being good citizens, because they certainly sucked at being soldiers, lol!

The historian is a tool, Germany had some of the most advanced equipment of the time. Dont possibly think that if they truly believed they could turn the tide and get back into power, that they could develop the tech to recover it? He seemed a bit to dimissive of thier ambition.
Can one imagine the sticky fingers of the Fourth Riech?

I met s brother and sister from Latvia back in 08' they said yhe Germans treated them better during occupation than the reds. Their parents couldn't find work after the war so moved to Germany to help rebuild, his father a carpenter/mother s semestres. He told me stories of German soldiers throwing medals and some uniforms into the woods trying to avoid being identified to avoid being a slave laborer
I was not looking for a "treasure hunting" video. Unfortunately, much of this video is just that.
Besides, if something is found, it is not treasure. Most likely it was something stolen from people that were murdered.
Finders keepers
What kind of hidden treasure wouldn't be?

And why, one might reasonably ask, would the Nazis have needed the help of a simple farmer, one who could betray their secrets?
Yes, they would have need it. Besides being difficult terrain to get about in. The Germans had *VERY* little gasoline/petrol available to them at this stage of the war.
They also needed not only their animals & farm carts. But their physical aid as well. Boxes of gold aren't light, & its a *LOT* easier to hide. It if you have extra muscles to move it about.
& they also could have relied upon the near fanatical loyalty of most these people. This was the ' beating heartland' of Hitler's political support amongst the German civilians.

Why aren’t your videos available in Austria. I shared the links with a friend that lives in Austria and he cannot watch them. 😅
wow yes true
They should have asked the Norwegian resistance for advise, fighting in the mountains. I bet the Allies did. I remember a Norwegian man telling me, new German troops travelling north were ambushed, a fact that not everybody knows. Seeing those valleys, you realise the German army didn't stand a chance, and there was no safe alternative route either. It was hurrying and hoping for the best. Oops.
And another example of fighting and mountains is Afghanistan. There is a UA-cam video on British troops going home and they only had to cross an Afghan valley. Well, they were slaughtered. Lesson, the Afghan mountain people is a people of warriors. They never give up. Enemies simply do not pass their valleys. Mountains are a dangerous place for armies. Better remember that, when you are a general or a soldier.
Do you even know when Norway was liberated?? For your information, the German troops occupying Norway capitulated without a struggle after the unconditional surrender in May 1945. So how were the Allies to get training from Norwegian resistance fighters?? Not to mention that the hyperbole and stretching of the truth in this episode is truly ridiculous!

You conspicuously avoid mentioning the name of this "secret fortress" (unless it's "Schwatz" or the like, at 7:40, but I can't find any fort of that name) - is this because the place is still kept under wraps and people are discouraged from looking at it, by the Austrian authorities? Berchtesgaden is the most famous of these fortified places of course, but it's clearly not the one featured here.
Thought the same thing. Read articles saying it was all propaganda by the nazis others say it was a plan but they didn’t have enough resources to go through with it which would explain why there’s no photos of this “fortress”
