My professor scoffed at me when I mentioned I wanted the form of a piece I was working on to be something like this one. I understood it's got repetitive themes that might sound corny to some but it's the journey Grainger takes you through that really gets to me. The beginning and ending of this piece are what stand out to me the most. After everything that happened, you're taken back to that lower timbre (pronounced "tamber" by the way) that really grounds you and rounds the whole piece out so majestically. I will always love Children's March.
No form is laughable, if you can make it convincing nothing is off limits. This form is essentially a passacaglia (built off of repetitions of a theme, using variation and counterpoint/harmony as the star of the music)
I love Children’s March!! I got to play this in high school with the Marian Catholic Symphonic Band at the Spring Concert in 2000, I have the recording-what a joy! Thank you for your insight and analysis on this tune and Grainger-a true champion of American wind band music.
This piece reminds me of something you might hear at Disney World. It somehow brought back memories of that even though it's unrelated to the Disney brand.
This was part of the repertoire for my very first district band concert! So I've known it since I was 13 and it still blows me away even though I know it inside and out
Hello, Anthony. Nice! I myself did my fanmade orchestral transcription/mockup recreation of that piece, which is streaming on my SoundCloud page. Thank you for sharing.
I love this piece. Thanks for making this video, and great work on it too. Also good choice on the recordings, the Dallas Winds' recordings of Grainger are the best ones out there.
#SEMPER FIDELIS #QUA PATET ORBIS #JE MAINTAN DRAI ! ♫♪ great ♫♪♫♪♫♪☺ BRAVISSIMO @/bisbis 🎶🎵🎼 great music! a well tuned ensemble that sounds like an organ ! Fabulous banding! Compliments! #SEMPER FI #QPO #JMD🎵🎼🎼🎶🎵🥁🎺👌👌🙏🙏🎺
Playing E-flat clarinet on this piece rn, difficult but much fun. Shame we don't have anyone to cover the bass oboe and contrabass sarrusophone parts though.
Wonder where in this work Grainger wrote the trauma of his own childhood. Looking for that horse whip sound.. A great opus from Grainger. One of my favorites.

Sounds like bagpipes!!

Great job! What piano solo recording is that?
It’s Leslie Howard with David Stanhope! very nice recording
The concert band version of this is 231 measures long instead of being over 400 measures long

You should do A Movement for Rosa by Mark Camphouse
That's on the list!! it's a little longer so I need to get my patreon up to 40 patrons, before I can sink that much time into something
Can you in the future do your analysis full score
That's not really my approach, the full score can be purchased and perused but would not really be legible in this framing.
