- In response to a request from a member of the Accordionists.info, here is the entire procedure on how to install the Roland Editor for a FR-8X. The procedure should be more or less the same for all other versions of this editor irrespective of the V-accordion model, as long as the right version of the editor is used.
How do you use the editor to do whatever Dale Mathis does? My 4x is coming and I didn't buy it from Kraft. People say it's going to sound thin and I'm a little worried. $4500 is not small change for me. But Dale's sounds are exclusive to Kraft Music.
You cannot purchase the sound from Dale, but you can purchase equal or better sounds from Richard Noel, truly the king of programming Rolland accordions. Do a google search for "Richard Noel FR-4x" and check out his site. (www.noelaccordion.com/roland)
Toedit sets to make your own... I do not recommend programming sounds/sets as a first thing to do with your 4X... get to know it FIRST, get comfortable with it and then install the editor and look in to learning that later.
@@JerryPH Nice! Thanks!
You are welcome! :)
Hi Jerry, I am French, with little english, but great video, thanks very much. I could still understand everything. However, once my FR8x is showing connected on the Editor (FR8X is recognized for both In & Out in the Editor) after I have refreshed, the Editor screen goes grey, and the screen freezes. I don't see any wheel turning showing that the list reads. In other words, nothing is happening. The only issue I can think of, is that I don't have v2.52 on my FR8X. I have v2.01. Is this the issue?
Yes that is exactly the issue, a firmware update will address this issue for you. Merci d’avoir pris le temps de demander!
does it tranfer midi through usb cable?
Can I play like that? Cheers
Hi there, thanks for posting... unfortunately no this is nothing related to MIDI, but DATA transfer from the V-accordion to the Roland EDITOR application. That said what you are looking to do on an 8X is simply connect a MIDI cable to an adapter that goes from MIDI to USB and connect that to your computer and capture that data using a music application, for example, REAPER.
Anyone ever have user programs on the 8x editor "time out" so you cannot read them? and the editor crashes?
Hi Randall, nope, never have. I'd be interested in seeing a set that crashes. Would you consider sending it my way for me to look at?
@@JerryPH Hi Jerry, I sent you a message on FaceBook with one of the User Banks in question. Thanks.
Hi Jerry, I can't get my editor to work. the system button(2nd left top) is greyed out . I,ve set usb to original on accordion (as general settings-page 107 of manual) and the editor "in" sees Roland FR8x-01 in, and FR8x-01 out okay but that's it. Any ideas?
Thank-you for posting!! Yes, please make sure that you have installed the latest firmware. Firmware version is display briefly at every turn-on on the screen. Let me know!
@@JerryPH Choosing the FR8x-01 in/out seems to work for me. Your video helped, thou, since I had to do a couple of refreshes, exactly as you show.
Good news… enjoy the editor!
Hi my name is Raul and I am from Romania, I have a fr-4x, i did everything you did but my acordion dosent show up at out & in, even if i refresh it dosent show up, can you help me with that ?
Hi There! First thanks for posting... unfortunately I do not own a 4X and therefore cannot trouble shoot for you, however, I would check to first make sure that I am using the right USB settings and then check my PC and make sure the USB port is working.
@@JerryPH Ok I will check and see if it works, thank you very much !
Hi Jerry, my name is Ruud and I come from the Netherlands. I tried to use the roland editor but after refreshing the roland arranger doesn't show up for me. I installed everything as you showed in your video but it doesn't work. Java is installed, roland editor and that also appears. FR-x8 connected with the usb cable, I then hear some tinkling sounds and then refresh and after that nothing happens. What comes in when I refresh is FR-8X 1.0 ---out. Can you help me further with this? I have no idea anymore. Kind regards Ruud Kamstra from the Netherlands. PS i'm using windows 10.
I may have an idea. Make sure that the right internal USB driver is being used in the 8X. Refer to pages 107 on which to use... I use "ORIGINAL" and it works for me.
@@JerryPH No its works not for me. Thanx.
Could you make s short low quality video, show me what you are doing and how, please? if it is under 20mb send it to jerryph@gmail (dot) com or use an online service I could download the file from. One thing... I don't understand what you mean by "FR-8X 1.0", that part is not clear for me
Hi, did u find any solution for this problem ? i've got same problem ...
1 - Make sure you are using the last firmware update, thats the biggest thing (v.2.52).
2 - Make sure you are using a known good computer with a working USB port.
3 - Make sure there is no physical issue with the USB port on the 8X.
Short of the above there should be no real reason it doesn't work!
Great job Jerry! I just got a new Windows 11 computer and needed to install the Roland Editor for my FR-4X and your video made it easy. I was afraid the editor wouldn't work with Windows 11 because Roland said they were still testing it, but it works great. Thank you!
Very happy to have been of service, and thanks for taking the time to post!
