30:12 - The pawn structures that let you do a Minority Attack are called Karlsbad pawn structures. That name comes from the time the Minority Attack was kinda invented as an idea and that happened on a tournament in Karlsbad. It's not known, who really invented that tactic, but I have read that even Capablanca speaks about a Minority attack in one of his games. I think it was popularized by Anatoly Karpov since of the classical greats he is considered to be the one, who follows Capablanca more closely. Or at least at the time when Karpov was on top of the world of chess.
I legit suffered through watching this with shitty internet just so you get the ad revenue (rather than me downloading it). I really love this channel! It‘s not the biggest chess channel out there but I think you make amazing content and managed to do your own thing despite a relatively saturated market. I also like the way you sound and articulate yourself. Just spreading some love. Was watching this and just kinda thought “Man, I really like his content!” Hope you keep it up.
To be honest, I wasn't able to play good but after I started to watch your videos of checkm8 patterns and the chess concepts I began to win a lot! You're the kind of the youtuber that every beginner should watch, Keep up the fire work!
This type of stuff is super useful. I feel like a lot of chess educators assume we have some kind of background in chess (other than playing it). I've been playing pretty avidly for 2 years now and there was tons of new information here for me. As always, thanks Nelson.
You have by far the best channel out there. I am consider myself an intermediate player and feel I am progressing well with your ideas. Love the fact that you often analyze lots of games before you make a video. Thanks so much!
Great lesson, Nelson! After watching I have a feeling that I so far played chess like kinda 1-dimension game whilst it is (surprise-surprise 😊) a 2-dimension one
Hi, just in time! I think for people like me, weak intermediate, the great issue is how to make decisions about when to capture and when to advance in pawn break situations especially in the early moves -- long before we get to big strategy on pawn structure. In some of your other videos (watched piles of them) you deal with a few of these, but there is something about linking early pawn decisions to overall strategy that one lacks.
Doubled pawn are not always so weak. One way to make them protect each other is by a third pawn to one of their sides, and forming a triangle formation. Ie the back-doubled pawn protecting a pawn on one of its diagonals, and that pawn in turn protecting the other doubled pawn (which has to be one extra square from your first-doubled pawn). Of course it's still a weaker structure, because if your opponent trades pawn with your front doubled-pawn and you take with your side pawn, then you still end up with doubled pawns (not protected from side-pawns anymore). But if the opponent attacks your side-pawn then your back-doubled pawn can take, and solve the problem.
I like your videos Nelson, but I cannot believe that you put out a "complete" guide to pawn structure without mentioning the ways that pawn structures can create weak squares. It is kind of an important consideration in pawn structures.
As an absolute beginner there is a good chance I might be wrong, but I think I've heard the "sicilian backwards D-pawn" referred to as the "benoni structure" or "benoni pawns" by multiple people in relation to the kid, pirc and modern as being the reason for kinda needing to study the benoni as well.
Thank You, Nelson, since I've began watching Your videos I started creating a lot more structure in my life.
Lol, I definitely agree that learning order and structure in chess definitely carries over to common life.

An important topic normally on the boring side of chess, but not this time. Thank you!

A saying that goes perfect with the pawns:
"United we stand, devided we fall"
This is the type of content that makes your channel great . You go from strength to strength!!! Well done?

He covers this at 4:15 so…
Keep up the good work
Ah thanks verymuch
I love the Black Side of McCutcheon French because of the Trebled QBPs. When the QR looks down that file, White worries.

30:05 It's the Carlsbad structure.
After watching this video I become a pawn star.

The video he posted on pawns right before posting this one, he didn’t only mention it but he explained it very well. If you’re interested…
Amazing video, but you forgot for one pawn structure - cub
hi nelson do you intend to do videos about some gambits ?
Hey there - if you search the channel for "gambit" or "gambits" you'll see a bunch of videos I've already done about gambits!
I also implement the Bishop tension thing in a lot of cases, many times when I play white and we have Bc4 (from my) and opponent goes Be6 I play Bb3
The fact that This channel still on 90k does not make any sense
Please tell us how to find the best move with a pawn or you say when and which pawn we should move in opening

Which category is Ruy Lopez??
I love chess
Everyone: has a good pawn structure
Me: FINALLY DOUBLE PAWN CUBE
Me 60 games later: QUADRUPLE PAWNS LETS GOOOOO
Nelson: avoid these pawn structures
Meanwhile, Eric Rosen: look its a pawn tower
