It's hard to overstate how important recordings of yourself are, the ability to hear, watch, and take notes must be absolutely invaluable. I will record myself at some point... only 2 weeks into sax playing though and I just have to get over the confidence bridge of recording myself playing for the first time :D

What apps can be used for transcription? Slowing stuff down etc.
It depends on what device you have, the Amazing SlowDowner is very popular on all platforms. For computer, I like Transcribe by Seventh String
I have been using the Amazing Slow Downer for years. It is an excellent practice tool.
