This thing is lethal, mine started to collapse the column tubing, I reinforced it and then one arm snapped clean off, could have killed me. Its a dangerous piece of junk for anything bigger than a Honda Civic coil. I was only using an 800 lb spring from an SUV so nothing out of its spec. Its rated at 6000 lbs, what complete BS, 500 would be the max without risking breaking something and/or seriously injury! BE VERY CAREFUL
I own the same model... I read a scary UA-cam comment while researching, someone mentioned that the top claws cracked / failed under tension and narrowly missed their head!!! It was enough for me to take further precautions, working with these springs deserves the utmost respect. When in use I wrap the thing with a couple of old tyres either lowered by hanging from above or balanced across two chairs / workmates, I also wrap and tie off the claws with a few turns of tie down strapping once the spring is located so as to retain the claw incase of failure. I'd probably wear a crash helmet if I had one ;-)
Few months ago I almost blow my head with one Mercedes front spring when one of the arms slipped and the spring flew 6 meters in the air and hit the top of the workshop. Now I am lookiing for replacement compressor.
I owned the same thing. After 1 use the roujd tube the forks mount into bent so bad they cracked the steel. The bottlejack blew it's guys out casuing me to rebuild it. In the end the damage caused the spring to bow too much and the safety factor was really bad. Would not recommend.
