You've inspired me to take my NC 700X to the Barber museum from Maryland. I was thinking of getting a bigger bike but after watching your videos I discovered she's more than just a commuter.
Gabino- If you have never been to the museum I will say it again it is AWESOME! The NC is a great all around bike. For long distance you might want to consider a bigger windscreen.
I haven't finished the whole video. I just paused to like it. I can't believe someone gave it a thumbs down. At least we are lucky enough that we don't have to travel with them. I am 68 and several years ago took a ride from Tulsa to the coast on old route 66. It is one of my fondest memories.
Thanks for the comment. I think most of the thumbs down come from the length of the videos and/or the amount of swearing. I'm going to try to tone down the swearing if I make more videos. I've ridden parts (nd more)of Route 66 on previous trips but I didn't have a video camera.
Good video! Great even. I'm gonna listen to the whole series. Washboard roads are caused by wheels hopping over a bump under power then digging in upon landing. Repeat a thousand times and boom, washboard.
Justin: Thanks for the explanation- that makes total sense. What I learned from this series is that I DON'T NEED TO PUT EVERYTHING I FILM ON UA-cam. Most of the vids are way too long but I still hope you enjoy them. Thanks for subscribing.
Wow what an awesome trip man! I live 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh, and yet I've never made it to Centralia. Always wanted to... hope your trip went well. Make sure to get yourself an Primanti Brothers Pittsburgh sandwich
Jonathan: The trip was A LOT of fun. My wife is from Pittsburgh so she's taken me to most of the cool spots in and around the city including Primanti's. But she's never been to Centralia. If you do go watch the documentary first.
Is that the Honda branded extended windshield? Any significant helmet buffeting? Doesn't look like there is any picking up on video. I am thinking about buying a bit taller screen for my NC, just have oem short one on now. Great video, I live about 1.5 hrs north of Barber near Fort Payne, used to do trackdays there at Barber back in the day. Great times.
Yes it is the Honda tall windscreen. With my Shoei Hornet I have buffeting issues over 50MPH when I have the visor on the helmet. This is the only bike I have issues with with that helmet.
Nice video Mike. I've got a 2014 NC700X and although I've had it for 2-1/2 years I haven't done more than a 400 mile trip on it yet. Really need to do that, and your video is inspiring me. I live in Southern Oregon but was born, grew up and spent most of my life in Sac. I also lived on a boat near where you were riding along the Consumnes (Walnut Grove) so it was nice to see some of those roads from your trip. Thanks for putting this video up. Oh - forgot to mention, I have some NC700-related mod videos on my channel so check it out if you're ever interested in, for example, making a DIY windshield, lowering the bike, installing a Seat Concepts seat, etc. Cheers!
Thanks Maynard. It was a fun trip. I wish I was going again this year. Living on a boat in Walnut Creek must have been fun. I'll be sure to check out the mods on your channel.
Most times it's fine. It's a 670cc so it's working pretty hard at 80+ I did have some issues when riding into a very strong headwind. One of my vids has a segment on it but the bike would lose speed when I shifted to 6th. If I was going 80 the bike would drop down to 71. So I had to ride in 5th. That happened 2x times over 5100 miles. It could be bc I have a smaller rear sprocket (2 teeth down). I got that sprocket because that is what was available. But I'm going to switch it back to stock next time.
cool man i've been looking at more upright motorycycles since i practically broke my back from my cbr600rr, i have this on mind along with versys 650 and the fz-07, Have a fun trip!

916MikeCA Mike Smith I ordered the Honda windshield and givi panniers. Peace out!!
Just got a 2015 NC700x and Im planning a trip out west from MO. Going to be following your videos!
Cool. Best of luck and have fun. My #1 bit of advice is to get off the interstates as much as possible.

Thats the plan... little old towns and backroads. Thanks for the tip!

Can't beat a road trip on a bike. Thanks for sharing.
I agree. The worst day of the trip was still better than my best day at work

How much is insurance for the NC700X annually?
Too many factors to say. Mine with Allstate is $23/mo for full coverage.
Interesting enough it was more exciting expensive than I though it would be. Our BMW f650gs and f700gs were a lot cheaper
Hey mike, how does the nc700x fare going 80+ mph on the freeway?
