Some of the sickest combos in the history of Flatland. Maybe the mistakes at the beginning didn't allow him to win this one. He totally had potential for that!
Wow. From 85-86 to 88 it was unbelievable how much flatland progressed in those few short years. Watch a flatland contest in 86 and compare it to this one in 88. Unbelievable! What a awesome time for the sport.
This guy was one of the best. He killed on the ramps too. He did a Summer tour with Haro in 89 that included Dennis McCoy and Joe Johnson. Johnson was really the only guy that could hang the huge airs with Dominguez in the pre-Hoffman era. That was a great tour.
This was when riding started to look more flowing. Damn check out how he got out of that foward ropa! I remember sneaking into a half-built office park building and using the new concrete floor to learn ropa's while it was raining outside...memories.
i entered a contest once ( in some raggedy town) and everyone in flatland was doing hopping gimicks and some limited scuff tricks, i mainly flowed rolling tricks rolaids, no hand hangs etc.. and lost, people were not ready.
He looks just like my cousin Danny from Michigan, who sadly passed away years ago. Ricky was one of my favorite rides along with Dennis and the only tour I believe I saw was the Haro tour with him him Dennis and Joe in the summer of 1987 at gun Hill bikes in the Bronx they got there late then the playground had water then they took a quick ride to McDonald’s to get food and so many Bike is follow them then they came back and they told the police they needed to block the street off and the police said there was no way they could get a permit that fast but somehow it worked they did it and then they did the flatland in the dry part of the park, actually I wish I went more but I was young only 14 at the time where in the Bronx there really wasn’t any good Bike Shop that had tours except that one in the Bronx. I didn’t even have a lot of riders near me plus, we had no place to ride it sucked. I was always so jealous of California riders. they had so much space in warm weather or year. My block was a typical urban block. The street was tight with cars houses and little buildings everywhere. No place to ride on another note. I am going to post the photos I have of that tour on my channel, so stay tuned.
Rick Moliterno used my drawings for the front load stem that Standard and many BMX manufacturers now sell and never paid me any money for it. Now they are making millions of of my idea. Goes to show you what kind of people these guys are.
The best part of watching these old AFA runs was when anybody got into a backwards infinity roll they had approximately a 0-1% chance off pulling it off.
hey 666tubeamp...I still have my RL20II...chromed out with the stickers still on it. i had some forks custom made cuz the originals broke. the original fork has the long tube. i still ride it once in a while. im rust as hell. RL Osborne was good too but Rick killed this run.
Both DMC and Rick used to link tricks with speed and flow. Trying to think of another flatland rider who used to complete against the same class as Kevin Jones. He had the fastest speed of linking tricks and then kinda got into the modern flatland linking stuff which is boring because it's going round and round and round.
Back when Rick was sponcered with hutch, I think 1986-87, I was in Rick's expert division before he turned pro. He was untouchable in the expert class and though he did not win all the pro comps, he had a good standing up there with Martin and RL Osborn. I miss Woody when he and Rick did tours for hutch. They seemed to be the perfect team mates. Martin, Brian & Josh was perfect for GT then they added Billy and Kevin to GT from the MCS team which ended up being great with Billy but a degrade adding kevin. Martin would of been best to pick up Marlow for GT instead of Kevin. Marlow was on top of the ramp division in our expert class but he was always beaten in flatland. If Martin picked up Marlow from MCS, Marlow and Josh White would of ruled the ramps. Billy , most of the time, Billy was rated #1 in the country. Billy only lost to Scottie Freeman from skyway every once in awhile but very rare. Trevor Hernandez from mongoose was always trying to catch up to them taking 2nd. place periodically from Scottie but fell in 3rd. place more often than none. Matt Hoffman was in Billy's expert class as well but Matt Hoffman could never catch up to Billy, Scottie or Trevor. If not mistaken, Matt Hoffman in flatland only beat Trevor once taking third. However Matt Hoffman ruled in the ramp division always. Redline had R.L. Osborn. As a sole rider for Redline, he was awesome. Rick & Kevin both were in my expert class and Rick always deserved a sponsor being untouchable but Kevin should not of been picked up by Martin for GT it was just because if Billy that he got picked up. I competed against Kevin locally and Statewide mostly with also competing with Donnie Cook former and only Profile sponcered rider before he moved to California to join the Sea world freestyle team. At national tournaments, I competed against Rick (hutch), Kevin (GT) Donnie (Profile) Marlow MCS all in the flatland division and rarely ramp. Being close friends with Billy swoops whole family with them living local and Kevin, GT should of never picked up Kevin and neither should of MCS, frankly sucked and did not deserve to be sponcered. He had a hard time keeping up in the top 3 locally and was slaughtered in State & National comps. I never beat Rick but I always often beat Kevin. Rick was always amazing and was rated #1 in the expert class in the Country. I tried and tried to catch up to him in the rankings and always failed unfortunately. Kevin really was not good on flatland or ramp with MCS. GT should of sponcered MCS Ramp rider Marlow B. as Marlow would of equalled up to Dennis McCoy, Josh White or even close to Eddie . I was there when Billy and Kevin was picked up by Martin to leave MCS and join GT. Martin picked Billy and Kevin up on GT while on tour at Gary's Bike shop in North Miami Beach Florida. Unfortunately MCS ramp rider Marlow B was not present to join GT and was out of town at that time. Once Martin convinced the MCS freestyle team to join GT, the company of MCS had lost their entire team and they stopped making freestyle bikes unfortunately.
That link starting a 2.50 is still difficult to complete for flatlanders today.......Rick was sooo ahead of his time....craziness....
That was the sickest run i ever saw, old school yet ahead of his time
Wow, as original as those tricks are, its still amazing to see them done.
Power all day. Ricks flatland runs in 88 were all nuts
Awesome run! Guy was a flatland legend…. Sponsored by Haro I believe
Absolutely threw it down!
Miss watching this man flatland!

Dennis McCoy changed the game
Compare Rick and DMC to the other riders in this contest. Those dudes were way ahead.
@@austin_l But little did they know about Kevin Jones 😮
Many differant cool dudes helped flatland progress and evolve at a phenomenal pace from '87 on through the nineties and beyond.
Sick Rick.

Oh come on, Bmx is a sport with good natured people. Skeletons are part of the passion and its cool to pose for pictures giving the middle finger.
Beast Mode!!!
rick had a bit of a shakey start but did some real contest bangers in the last 90 seconds. rad stuff.
The best part of watching these old AFA runs was when anybody got into a backwards infinity roll they had approximately a 0-1% chance off pulling it off.
Timeless Flatland action.

moliterno and johnes did innovate a lot
Does any one have video of Ron's slam at 88 finals?
good rider !
never forget
Bad ass!

I’m confused, what Kevin are you talking about? Kevin’s last name?
Man I still wish I could've learned the 'rolaid.' Rolling decades always looked bad-a!
And DMC was king of them.
kuwahara or haro ?
Yes! 👍
i like how every one use to ride flatland to huge half pipes, didn't matter..
@danyarger "millions" LOL
haro
