I wouldn’t say that Germans take Deutsche Bahn for granted, they just have a different frame of reference than you do. There’s a difference of magnitude between rail options in Germany compared to USA, possibly also compared to Spain. Germans compare the quality of service now to 20 years ago, before there was a massive push to privatize Deutsche Bahn, leading to massive cuts to maintenance, resulting in significant decreases in punctuality and reliability. I commute to work via S-Bahn from Nürnberg to Erlangen, and take a train that leaves before 6:00 AM because I like to beat the rush hour. My train should take 21 minutes to get to my stop, and had a 32 minute delay today. Fortunately that’s not typical, but it usually runs 5 to 10 minutes late. My wife sometimes takes the ICE to Munich for work and has had all manner of experiences with delays and cancelled trains. During one such delay, it just so happened that a Siemens Mobility employee was on the train and got into a lengthy discussion with the conductor. His conclusion was that their trains in Germany are less reliable than similar models in other countries because of maintenance neglect specific to Germany. Take that as you may, but I think it’s representative of the perception that many Germans have of their rail system. Two things that I would assert about this is that Germans have high expectations of their rail system and know that it’s capable of providing better punctuality and reliability than it does.
Yeah it's depressing and a condemnation that things are so awful in the US that the degraded post-privatisation German trains still look awesome in contrast
And the worst thing is that even with privatisation everybody pays whith tax money for the badly maintained infrastructure and the incedible high pension of some DB-managers which sometimes is higher than their last paycheck.

This is also amplified by our neighbours the Swiss, who speak the same language as we do, and managed to have the most reliable train system in the world. We look at them and ask ourselves: Why are we not capable of achieving this?

TIP: my colleagues in UK used to use the Deutsche Bahn App to look for connections in the UK because the UK Servers were so slow. Try it to find your connection in Spain. OK you probably won't be able to purchase a ticket but it may help.
They caused me to miss my flight because my second connection went to a completely different station than what was listed on my ticket and I had to take a bus and another train to get back to the right one. It’s pretty terrible.
Here's the reason (according to several German friends): DB was semi-privatized a number of years ago. Prior to this, DB was ALWAYS punctual, with on-time connections, very clean, etc. Nowadays, not so much.
Privatisation is always sold as a way to do things better, more cheaply, and more efficiently, but it's really always just a way to move public funds into private hands
Well you're right as far ss it comes to privatization: things got worse since then. So it isn't private anymore but kept the baf things. Old enough to remember the olden days. No, it wasn't perfect back then. They had their flaws and stuff, if course. Not that much like today though. Far off from that.
I love Deutsche Bahn as well and I'ma get the 49€-Ticket for sure. I've been on the train in other countries and DB just has a totally different consistency in their service. No matter where in Germany you're gonna go on a DB train, you know you can book it easily through the app and it's gonna be comfortable.
that's the problem: people don't seem to be on trains in other countries often, so they lack comparison and can't see the many pros vs the few cons of DB
As someone from Switzerland… the Deutsche Bahn is literally dystopian. The Deutsche Bahn considers a 15 minute late train punctual and even with that frame of reference only 70% of trains are punctual lmao. The Schweizer Bundesbahn considers anything past a minute late and yet 98% are punctual.
I absolutely appreciate the DB. I take its trains almost every day just to get to uni. The problem is that it could be better, but it won't. It's also much more expensive than it should be, in some cases being more expensive than flying, which is insane if you ask me. The 49€ Ticket is a sorry excuse for "social program". The 9€ Ticket was a really good social program that helped homeless and poor people out a ton, the state could easily afford it, but they refused to continue because of neoliberal fearmongering from the FDP.

I had a less than ideal experience on ICE from Frankfurt to Berlin yesterday. It was over 90 minutes late due to a line closure halfway through the trip, and the train had to reverse and go backwards. But I arrived, and the trip was comfortable since the train was thankfully not packed. I agree that it's easy to complain about DB when it doesn't work efficiently (which is often) and forget that other countries don't have anything remotely similar to what DB offers. I love the 49€ ticket as well. I try really hard not to take that for granted because I know the price will rise in the near future.

DB is good, extremely good if you compare it to the situation in the USA. You need to try Switzerland though (SBB). To me it was the same experience as with the DB but the numbers say the SBB is much better (available connections and punctuality) than the DB. Oh, and "why we (Germans) complain": Because * delayed trains are to frequent (yeah, not even available trains, as in the USA, are worse, but we want a promise to be kept) * failures of the air conditioning in the ICE whenever it gets above 30°C are a joke for at least 10 years now. * The personel is sometimes somewhat "too German" (read: "rude", not "open") to have a pleasant ride. Not that I don't prefer the German frankness also in service jobs (which is accepted and kind of expected from both sides in Germany - service personel and customers are a bit more open in conversations than in the USA), but the DB personel can be challenging...
As a German: Germans need to complain about things. It doesn´t matter if justified or not. It´s their hobby and they lack something if they can´t do it at least once a day.
I will say… the app is one of the good parts of DB, but all in all, they need to get back to being punctual and reliable and to a new current standard in general.
They won't bring back the 9€ ticket. But we will have a 49€ ticket soon (probably) that'll work the same way. The 9€ ticket was never intended to stay.
What surprised me the most about the Renfe train system is that people just used to walk across the tracks in Lloret de Mar near Barcelona. Pretty pittoresque line, though, going directly along the coast.

Concerning punctuality you have to consider the size of the network. And you have to decide what you do, if one train is late. Do you tell the connecting train to wait (and become late as well) or should it just leave and the customer has to find another train/connection than booked? Maybe a few hours later? I hate it, if my train is late. But sitting in the Speisewagen drinking a cup of tea still beats sitting in my car on the autobahn.
Well we complain because the older folks know that DB once was much much better. So while we appreciate DB, we complain because it doesn't live up to our (old) expectations. In light of the fact that DB is underfianced for at least 30 years, if not longer, they are doing wonders though.

Deutsche Bahn is known for being mostly late and having bad service. The 9 € ticket led to overcrowded trains and so will probably the 49 € ticket. Just a little less overcrowded maybe because it costs more. I will watch the video later.

Deutsche Bahn was a governmental run service and back then the trains were more reliable. That is why it all started with the complains and also we have neighbors with train services that work and are as reliable as Deutsche Bahn once was. So why can't they solve the issues, if everywhere else they can?
Don't bother waiting for the 9-Euro Ticket to come back. It won't. There are rumors that it may return as a 49 Euro ticket at some point, if the politicians can ever make up their minds.
At least from my experience living with Madrid and Baden Wurttemberg I think that the overall public transportation in Madrid is way better than in BW... particularly with the regional trains. I have never ever had a delay with a Cercanias train while the bwregio is a complete mess... nor to say with the high speed trains, now that there is AVE, Ouigo, Iryo and AVLO the services are cheaper and they are punctual whereas the ICE trains not. In Madrid you can have a look for the bus, metro and Cercanias time schedules with the apps and a mixed use of them with Google Maps. In the end, yes... in Spain apps are thought primarily for Spanish speakers but it's a good excuse to learn other languages than English.
the db is maybe the worst running company in germany ... honestly and its for a reason if they repair the tracks they have to pay it themself, if they let the tracks break, then germany will pay new ones ... so its not in the intrest if the "privat" company DB to check on stuff before it breaks ... and thats why so many stuff breaks all the time ... i was using the train to works and i nearly lost my job cause basicly 1 time a week the train was canceled, 3 days a week it was late from which 1-2 times i missed my following trains ... so starting with a 40min travel to work i had to move to a 80 minute travel to work by going a train earlier and then sitting in front of my work for 30 minutes just cause in case this shit breaks ... honestly at this time for whats it is good anyway ? if you wanna take the fast ICE in the next city ? ALWAYS take one regional train earlier then you need in case it get canceled ... HOW can THIS be the norm ? fuck i hate the dm so much PS: then when i move to netherlands, austria, switzerland ... the trains are sooo much better its like day and night ... so tahts why we complain ... overpriced crap isnt worth hyping up xD

I don't know Spanish trains but I live in Germany and have experienced Italian, Dutch and all the Scandinavian countries` trains as well. DB is definitely the worst of them. The problem here is that DB is expensive and unreliable. I had times where I was a frequent commuter between two cities. I had to go from a southern city to a northern city almost once a week due to work. And I missed a lot of trains and I mean a lot. Most of the time I had to take more than one train and missing connection was not the exception but the rule. This made me travel much earlier than I need to just to be ready for such delays which made everything more difficult as well. DB is simply unreliable. I had a Bahncard 100 provided by my workplace so price was not a problem then but now when I want/need to travel I find the prices very expensive compared to traveling by car. And with DB you have to book in advance otherwise it gets much more expensive. In Italy for example train prices are constant, even if you buy last minute the price is the same. With DB when you book it months in advance it gets cheaper and is very expensive when you need to buy it last minute. So the months in advance booking option is mostly due to that here. Are the Spanish trains like Italian trains as well? Than it would make sense that they sell it only in the last month.
agreed that other european countries have better railways than DB today, but e.g. from an american perspective DB seems like heaven. or when you have to ride an indian train on the rooftop because it is 400% overfilled.
@@djmillhaus Yes Europe, China and Japan have probably the best trains in the world. But at least in the Western world I think the US is the exception. It is simply too car dependent. I wish that the US would get better train infrastructure one day but they mostly do small projects or nothing at all (with California the exception). Some cities have or are building good metro lines. However, for the intercity trains the car and petrol lobbies are simply too powerful, which makes me sad.
You have another perspective but the germans. You compare to Spain or USA, well taking a geographical perspective. The germans compare on a timeline. The older ones remember how it was before. Just 20 years ago we used to say: "pünktlich wie die Eisenbahn". A train being late by 5 minutes was a rare exception. Today they have reached 50 percent being even more late than 5 minutes. For instance, in Sweden it is still as it was in G. long ago. So, it is possible. It is a question of politics, privatization, profit goals and stuff like that.

The last time I used DB was about 20 years ago, and my main complaint as someone whose German isn't particularly good was that basically none of the staff on the trains I was on spoke English. Or maybe just refused to. :/ Great train service otherwise.
To be fair, it is a German railway so they speak German. Furthermore while every German learns English at school, those entering in-train service jobs usually are not the most akademic ones. They are trying to address the language barrier these days. That on it's own leads to some funny situations sometimes. 😀

DB isnt that bad at all. I don't use DB often, but everytime I used it the train was on time. Germans are whining about DB on a very high level. It is cheap, reliable, secure.
In which universe its"cheep". Cologne - Bochum 20 € plus. One way! U seams to be millionaire, but I don't have as much money to pay everytime 40€ there and back.
Why DB is bad: - Unpunctual - frequent track changes - Overcrowded even in IC/ ICE (no seating guarantee, they even sell first class tickets without seating guarantee so you have the pleasure of standing first class for a 4 hour trip) - slow (250 km/h is already considered "High Speed" while Shinkanzen goes 500 km/h and ICE does not even go that fast on many routes because of mixed traffic and old infrastructure) - ICE stops at multiple cities (instead of simply going non-stop) - complicated fare system (simply charge base + x ct per km and be done with it) - no baggage handling - dirty and unattractive stations - no free food and drinks even in ICE first class - A/C breaks down in hot summers I only use DB if my employer forces me to (and as a result I am usually late) or to commute into larger cities because the cities slept over the years and did do nothing to accomodate the increased car traffic. Otherwise I use my own car. Compare DB to Japanse train service and you see why it is bad. Does not mean that it cannot be worse elsewhere.

That doesn't sound believable, if you are talking about normal passenger service with a Shinkansen train on wheels ... probably rather about 320 to 350 km/h maximum speed. 500km/h may be the speed record in a high speed record attempt over a short distance - the French TGV reached more than 570 km/h in the year 2007 , but that was a one-time event and not something that would be done in daily use.
Montana hat schon recht. Wir sind viel zu kritisch mit der Bahn. Ich fahre seit Jahrzehnten in regelmäßigen Abständen eine 400 km lange Strecke von Hamburg aufs hessische Land und zudem ab und zu nach München. 97 % der Fahrten haben genau so stattgefunden, wie geplant, die 3 % waren eine spannende Weihnachtserfahrung mit Umsteigen wegen Vereisung (das passiert in Spanien nicht). Freunde sind ständig am meckern. Die meckern aber auch über das schreibende Baby oder die laute Musik in der Wohnung drüber (und die anderen Fahrgäste in der Bahn). Auch da habe ich NIE Probleme. Ich denke: das ist vor allem eine Meckerkultur.

Das dürfte daran liegen dass die Erwartungshaltung bei einer Rundreise eine komplett andere ist als wenn man den öffentlichen Verkehr Tag täglich nutzt. Die Eisenbahn in Spanien ist extrem gut aufgestellt was Punkt zu Punkt Verkehre zwischen den (wirtschaftlichen wie touristischen) Zentren des Landes angeht. Die nutzt man allerdings eher selten. Das, was man hat, funktioniert zwar erst mal gut, ist aber für viele Menschen einfach dennoch total unattraktiv weil es ihre Mobilitätsbedürfnisse nicht befriedigt. Sage nicht nur ich, es gab sogar mal vor ein paar Jahren ein Interview mit dem Vorsitzenden eines Spanischen Fahrgastverbandes in irgend einer deutschen Tageszeitung der sinngemäß meinte, er würde sofort die extrem hohe Pünktlichkeit der Renfe eintauschen, wenn er dafür das extrem dichte Angebot des deutschen Netzes bekäme.

Warum? Wo soll ich anfangen ohne die Kommentarspalte zu sprengen? Zu teuer, man ist sehr unflexibel, dauernde massive Verspätungen (5Min sind ja Standard meistens sind es ja eher ab 15 Minuten) und Zugausfälle, unfreundliches Personal. Und Bus und Bahn außerhalb von Großstädten kann man vergessen wenn man Glück hat fährt jede Stunde bis 21 Uhr ein Zug (und danach gar nicht mehr) oder nur ein Zwei Stunden Takt oder nur bis 18 Uhr und dann nicht mehr. Glaube mit dem Thema könnte man ganze Bücher füllen...
zu teuer stimme ich dir zu, aber halt auch nur wenn man kurz vorher bucht. Ansonsten sind insbesondere ICE Fahrten die man einen Monat vorher bucht wirklich sehr günstig. Auch Nahverkehr ist preislich in einem sehr angemessenen Rahmen. Die Verspätungen nerven natürlich, sind aber leider ein Teil des Geschäfts und diese gibt es in den restlichen Europäischen Ländern genauso (gibt natürlich ausnahmen in der Schweiz zb, aber die sind um einiges Reicher und da kostet so eine Bahnfahrt auch um einiges mehr. Mal davon abgesehen sind dort auch die Voraussetzungen andere. In Frankreich zb haben die Schnellzüge ihre eigenen Gleise, was aber auch am zentralistischen System liegt. Mit unfreundlichen Mitarbeitern hatte ich zum Glück noch nicht zu tun gehabt. Da gibt es sicherlich überall Schwarze Schafe. ÖPNV außerhalb der großen Städte ist halt leider auch hochgradig ineffizient. Natürlich können wir uns wünschen, dass jeder mit einer direkten Bahnverbindung aus dem 100 Einwohner Dorf angeschlossen wird, aber im Prinzip ist das einfach nur Steuerverschwendung. In den kleinen Orten werden inzwischen immer mehr Kleinbusse eingesetzt, bei denen man anrufen kann, weil dieses Modell immer noch um einiges Günstiger und effizienter ist, als alle 20 Minuten auf dem Dorf einen Bus fahren zu lassen, der dann von 5 Menschen genutzt wird.
Es ist ne Eisenbahngesellschaft. Das liegt in der Natur der Sache, dass sie nicht zu jeder Zeit überall hin fährt. Natürlich wäre es nice wenn man diesen Standard irgendwann erreichen könnte, doch bloß weil es jetzt noch nicht so ist, ist die DB noch lange nicht schlecht. Und wenn man bedenkt wie sehr das System schon jetzt am Anschlag ist kann sie wohl auch nicht „zu teuer“ sein, sonst würde sie niemand nutzen. Der einzig valide Grund der bleibt den Groll über die DB zu hegen wären Service und Pünktlichkeit. Und nicht nur gibt’s da (auch in Deutschland!) noch ganz andere Player in der Branche die um ein vielfaches schlechter performen, irgendwo ist sie da auch von der Infrastruktur abhängig die ihr Eigentümer ihr zur Verfügung stellt. Insofern ist es wirklich geradezu absurd wie extrem die DB in Deutschland teilweise regelrecht mit Hass überzogen wird.
@@luuges Die sog. Rufbusse sind ein Witz. Fahren 3 mal täglich und man muss eine Stunde vorher anrufen. Mit dem jetzigen Stand beim ÖPNV wird es keine Verkehrswende geben.
@StrawberryStar Dann reden wir allerdings über Verkehre die Teil der Daseinsvorsorge sind. Deren Preisbildung ist nicht Gegenstand einer unternehmerischen Entscheidung der DB, sondern der des Bestellers. Wer hier auch aufgrund von Beeinträchtigungen auf den ÖV angewiesen ist kann ihn idR kostenlos nutzen, da kann das Preisargument also nicht greifen. Auch für Schüler oder Sozialhilfeempfänger gelten bezuschusste Tarife. Darüber hinaus sind es eher selbst-gewählte Abhängigkeiten in denen der PKW durchaus eine Alternative ist, die Schiene aber trotzdem von einer Vielzahl ihrer Nutzer bewusst vorgezogen wird und mit Überlastung zu kämpfen hat. Daher kann ich das „zu teuer“ nicht nachvollziehen. Im Fernverkehr zieht es noch weniger, denn hier bestimmt die Nachfrage sowie die Knappheit des Gutes den Preis. Und da wird sich ständig über zu hohe Preise beklagt obwohl die Züge regelmäßig übervoll sind. Da passt also was nicht zusammen.

Wie gesagt Busse und Bahnen sind einfach zu teuer um sie im ländlichen Raum zuverlässig und mit einer angemessenen Taktung einzusetzen. Wir müssen von der Illusion des perfekten Nahverkehrs wegkommen und schauen was kann man sinnvoll verbessern und was nicht?

They caused me to miss my flight because my second connection went to a completely different station than what was listed on my ticket and I had to take a bus and another train to get back to the right one. It’s pretty terrible.
Here's the reason (according to several German friends): DB was semi-privatized a number of years ago. Prior to this, DB was ALWAYS punctual, with on-time connections, very clean, etc. Nowadays, not so much.
Privatisation is always sold as a way to do things better, more cheaply, and more efficiently, but it's really always just a way to move public funds into private hands

I love Deutsche Bahn as well and I'ma get the 49€-Ticket for sure. I've been on the train in other countries and DB just has a totally different consistency in their service. No matter where in Germany you're gonna go on a DB train, you know you can book it easily through the app and it's gonna be comfortable.

As someone from Switzerland… the Deutsche Bahn is literally dystopian. The Deutsche Bahn considers a 15 minute late train punctual and even with that frame of reference only 70% of trains are punctual lmao. The Schweizer Bundesbahn considers anything past a minute late and yet 98% are punctual.

I absolutely appreciate the DB. I take its trains almost every day just to get to uni. The problem is that it could be better, but it won't. It's also much more expensive than it should be, in some cases being more expensive than flying, which is insane if you ask me. The 49€ Ticket is a sorry excuse for "social program". The 9€ Ticket was a really good social program that helped homeless and poor people out a ton, the state could easily afford it, but they refused to continue because of neoliberal fearmongering from the FDP.

I had a less than ideal experience on ICE from Frankfurt to Berlin yesterday. It was over 90 minutes late due to a line closure halfway through the trip, and the train had to reverse and go backwards. But I arrived, and the trip was comfortable since the train was thankfully not packed. I agree that it's easy to complain about DB when it doesn't work efficiently (which is often) and forget that other countries don't have anything remotely similar to what DB offers. I love the 49€ ticket as well. I try really hard not to take that for granted because I know the price will rise in the near future.

DB is good, extremely good if you compare it to the situation in the USA.
You need to try Switzerland though (SBB). To me it was the same experience as with the DB but the numbers say the SBB is much better (available connections and punctuality) than the DB.
Oh, and "why we (Germans) complain": Because
* delayed trains are to frequent (yeah, not even available trains, as in the USA, are worse, but we want a promise to be kept)
* failures of the air conditioning in the ICE whenever it gets above 30°C are a joke for at least 10 years now.
* The personel is sometimes somewhat "too German" (read: "rude", not "open") to have a pleasant ride. Not that I don't prefer the German frankness also in service jobs (which is accepted and kind of expected from both sides in Germany - service personel and customers are a bit more open in conversations than in the USA), but the DB personel can be challenging...

I will say… the app is one of the good parts of DB, but all in all, they need to get back to being punctual and reliable and to a new current standard in general.
They won't bring back the 9€ ticket. But we will have a 49€ ticket soon (probably) that'll work the same way.

Concerning punctuality you have to consider the size of the network. And you have to decide what you do, if one train is late. Do you tell the connecting train to wait (and become late as well) or should it just leave and the customer has to find another train/connection than booked? Maybe a few hours later?
I hate it, if my train is late. But sitting in the Speisewagen drinking a cup of tea still beats sitting in my car on the autobahn.
Well we complain because the older folks know that DB once was much much better. So while we appreciate DB, we complain because it doesn't live up to our (old) expectations. In light of the fact that DB is underfianced for at least 30 years, if not longer, they are doing wonders though.

Deutsche Bahn is known for being mostly late and having bad service. The 9 € ticket led to overcrowded trains and so will probably the 49 € ticket. Just a little less overcrowded maybe because it costs more. I will watch the video later.

Deutsche Bahn was a governmental run service and back then the trains were more reliable. That is why it all started with the complains and also we have neighbors with train services that work and are as reliable as Deutsche Bahn once was. So why can't they solve the issues, if everywhere else they can?
Don't bother waiting for the 9-Euro Ticket to come back. It won't. There are rumors that it may return as a 49 Euro ticket at some point, if the politicians can ever make up their minds.

At least from my experience living with Madrid and Baden Wurttemberg I think that the overall public transportation in Madrid is way better than in BW... particularly with the regional trains. I have never ever had a delay with a Cercanias train while the bwregio is a complete mess... nor to say with the high speed trains, now that there is AVE, Ouigo, Iryo and AVLO the services are cheaper and they are punctual whereas the ICE trains not. In Madrid you can have a look for the bus, metro and Cercanias time schedules with the apps and a mixed use of them with Google Maps. In the end, yes... in Spain apps are thought primarily for Spanish speakers but it's a good excuse to learn other languages than English.

if they repair the tracks they have to pay it themself, if they let the tracks break, then germany will pay new ones ... so its not in the intrest if the "privat" company DB to check on stuff before it breaks ...

i was using the train to works and i nearly lost my job cause basicly 1 time a week the train was canceled, 3 days a week it was late from which 1-2 times i missed my following trains ...
so starting with a 40min travel to work i had to move to a 80 minute travel to work by going a train earlier and then sitting in front of my work for 30 minutes just cause in case this shit breaks ...

I don't know Spanish trains but I live in Germany and have experienced Italian, Dutch and all the Scandinavian countries` trains as well. DB is definitely the worst of them. The problem here is that DB is expensive and unreliable.
I had times where I was a frequent commuter between two cities. I had to go from a southern city to a northern city almost once a week due to work. And I missed a lot of trains and I mean a lot. Most of the time I had to take more than one train and missing connection was not the exception but the rule. This made me travel much earlier than I need to just to be ready for such delays which made everything more difficult as well. DB is simply unreliable.
I had a Bahncard 100 provided by my workplace so price was not a problem then but now when I want/need to travel I find the prices very expensive compared to traveling by car. And with DB you have to book in advance otherwise it gets much more expensive. In Italy for example train prices are constant, even if you buy last minute the price is the same. With DB when you book it months in advance it gets cheaper and is very expensive when you need to buy it last minute. So the months in advance booking option is mostly due to that here. Are the Spanish trains like Italian trains as well? Than it would make sense that they sell it only in the last month.
agreed that other european countries have better railways than DB today, but e.g. from an american perspective DB seems like heaven.

@@djmillhaus Yes Europe, China and Japan have probably the best trains in the world. But at least in the Western world I think the US is the exception. It is simply too car dependent.
I wish that the US would get better train infrastructure one day but they mostly do small projects or nothing at all (with California the exception). Some cities have or are building good metro lines. However, for the intercity trains the car and petrol lobbies are simply too powerful, which makes me sad.
You have another perspective but the germans. You compare to Spain or USA, well taking a geographical perspective.
The germans compare on a timeline. The older ones remember how it was before. Just 20 years ago we used to say: "pünktlich wie die Eisenbahn". A train being late by 5 minutes was a rare exception.
Today they have reached 50 percent being even more late than 5 minutes.
For instance, in Sweden it is still as it was in G. long ago. So, it is possible. It is a question of politics, privatization, profit goals and stuff like that.

The last time I used DB was about 20 years ago, and my main complaint as someone whose German isn't particularly good was that basically none of the staff on the trains I was on spoke English. Or maybe just refused to. :/ Great train service otherwise.
To be fair, it is a German railway so they speak German. Furthermore while every German learns English at school, those entering in-train service jobs usually are not the most akademic ones. They are trying to address the language barrier these days. That on it's own leads to some funny situations sometimes. 😀

Germans are efficient and DEUTSCHE BAHN isnt efficient. Takes a lot of time and it is expensive. There is no advantage.

DB isnt that bad at all. I don't use DB often, but everytime I used it the train was on time. Germans are whining about DB on a very high level. It is cheap, reliable, secure.
In which universe its"cheep". Cologne - Bochum 20 € plus. One way! U seams to be millionaire, but I don't have as much money to pay everytime 40€ there and back.

Why DB is bad:
- Unpunctual
- frequent track changes
- Overcrowded even in IC/ ICE (no seating guarantee, they even sell first class tickets without seating guarantee so you have the pleasure of standing first class for a 4 hour trip)
- slow (250 km/h is already considered "High Speed" while Shinkanzen goes 500 km/h and ICE does not even go that fast on many routes because of mixed traffic and old infrastructure)
- ICE stops at multiple cities (instead of simply going non-stop)
- complicated fare system (simply charge base + x ct per km and be done with it)
- no baggage handling
- dirty and unattractive stations
- no free food and drinks even in ICE first class
- A/C breaks down in hot summers
I only use DB if my employer forces me to (and as a result I am usually late) or to commute into larger cities because the cities slept over the years and did do nothing to accomodate the increased car traffic. Otherwise I use my own car.
Compare DB to Japanse train service and you see why it is bad. Does not mean that it cannot be worse elsewhere.
if you want a seat guarantee in an IC or ICE, just invest the 4 or 5 Euros extra for a seat reservation... don't say that it's not possible
"Shinkansen goes 500 km/h" ... really? That doesn't sound believable, if you are talking about normal passenger service with a Shinkansen train on wheels ... probably rather about 320 to 350 km/h maximum speed.
500km/h may be the speed record in a high speed record attempt over a short distance - the French TGV reached more than 570 km/h in the year 2007 , but that was a one-time event and not something that would be done in daily use.

Ich war mit dem Zug in Spanien (vor 15 Jahren), hatte da keine Schwierigkeiten bei meiner Rundreise
Montana hat schon recht. Wir sind viel zu kritisch mit der Bahn. Ich fahre seit Jahrzehnten in regelmäßigen Abständen eine 400 km lange Strecke von Hamburg aufs hessische Land und zudem ab und zu nach München. 97 % der Fahrten haben genau so stattgefunden, wie geplant, die 3 % waren eine spannende Weihnachtserfahrung mit Umsteigen wegen Vereisung (das passiert in Spanien nicht). Freunde sind ständig am meckern. Die meckern aber auch über das schreibende Baby oder die laute Musik in der Wohnung drüber (und die anderen Fahrgäste in der Bahn). Auch da habe ich NIE Probleme. Ich denke: das ist vor allem eine Meckerkultur.

Das dürfte daran liegen dass die Erwartungshaltung bei einer Rundreise eine komplett andere ist als wenn man den öffentlichen Verkehr Tag täglich nutzt. Die Eisenbahn in Spanien ist extrem gut aufgestellt was Punkt zu Punkt Verkehre zwischen den (wirtschaftlichen wie touristischen) Zentren des Landes angeht. Die nutzt man allerdings eher selten. Das, was man hat, funktioniert zwar erst mal gut, ist aber für viele Menschen einfach dennoch total unattraktiv weil es ihre Mobilitätsbedürfnisse nicht befriedigt. Sage nicht nur ich, es gab sogar mal vor ein paar Jahren ein Interview mit dem Vorsitzenden eines Spanischen Fahrgastverbandes in irgend einer deutschen Tageszeitung der sinngemäß meinte, er würde sofort die extrem hohe Pünktlichkeit der Renfe eintauschen, wenn er dafür das extrem dichte Angebot des deutschen Netzes bekäme.

Warum? Wo soll ich anfangen ohne die Kommentarspalte zu sprengen? Zu teuer, man ist sehr unflexibel, dauernde massive Verspätungen (5Min sind ja Standard meistens sind es ja eher ab 15 Minuten) und Zugausfälle, unfreundliches Personal. Und Bus und Bahn außerhalb von Großstädten kann man vergessen wenn man Glück hat fährt jede Stunde bis 21 Uhr ein Zug (und danach gar nicht mehr) oder nur ein Zwei Stunden Takt oder nur bis 18 Uhr und dann nicht mehr. Glaube mit dem Thema könnte man ganze Bücher füllen...
zu teuer stimme ich dir zu, aber halt auch nur wenn man kurz vorher bucht. Ansonsten sind insbesondere ICE Fahrten die man einen Monat vorher bucht wirklich sehr günstig. Auch Nahverkehr ist preislich in einem sehr angemessenen Rahmen. Die Verspätungen nerven natürlich, sind aber leider ein Teil des Geschäfts und diese gibt es in den restlichen Europäischen Ländern genauso (gibt natürlich ausnahmen in der Schweiz zb, aber die sind um einiges Reicher und da kostet so eine Bahnfahrt auch um einiges mehr. Mal davon abgesehen sind dort auch die Voraussetzungen andere. In Frankreich zb haben die Schnellzüge ihre eigenen Gleise, was aber auch am zentralistischen System liegt. Mit unfreundlichen Mitarbeitern hatte ich zum Glück noch nicht zu tun gehabt. Da gibt es sicherlich überall Schwarze Schafe. ÖPNV außerhalb der großen Städte ist halt leider auch hochgradig ineffizient. Natürlich können wir uns wünschen, dass jeder mit einer direkten Bahnverbindung aus dem 100 Einwohner Dorf angeschlossen wird, aber im Prinzip ist das einfach nur Steuerverschwendung. In den kleinen Orten werden inzwischen immer mehr Kleinbusse eingesetzt, bei denen man anrufen kann, weil dieses Modell immer noch um einiges Günstiger und effizienter ist, als alle 20 Minuten auf dem Dorf einen Bus fahren zu lassen, der dann von 5 Menschen genutzt wird.
Es ist ne Eisenbahngesellschaft. Das liegt in der Natur der Sache, dass sie nicht zu jeder Zeit überall hin fährt. Natürlich wäre es nice wenn man diesen Standard irgendwann erreichen könnte, doch bloß weil es jetzt noch nicht so ist, ist die DB noch lange nicht schlecht. Und wenn man bedenkt wie sehr das System schon jetzt am Anschlag ist kann sie wohl auch nicht „zu teuer“ sein, sonst würde sie niemand nutzen. Der einzig valide Grund der bleibt den Groll über die DB zu hegen wären Service und Pünktlichkeit. Und nicht nur gibt’s da (auch in Deutschland!) noch ganz andere Player in der Branche die um ein vielfaches schlechter performen, irgendwo ist sie da auch von der Infrastruktur abhängig die ihr Eigentümer ihr zur Verfügung stellt. Insofern ist es wirklich geradezu absurd wie extrem die DB in Deutschland teilweise regelrecht mit Hass überzogen wird.
@@luuges Die sog. Rufbusse sind ein Witz. Fahren 3 mal täglich und man muss eine Stunde vorher anrufen. Mit dem jetzigen Stand beim ÖPNV wird es keine Verkehrswende geben.

Deren Preisbildung ist nicht Gegenstand einer unternehmerischen Entscheidung der DB, sondern der des Bestellers. Wer hier auch aufgrund von Beeinträchtigungen auf den ÖV angewiesen ist kann ihn idR kostenlos nutzen, da kann das Preisargument also nicht greifen. Auch für Schüler oder Sozialhilfeempfänger gelten bezuschusste Tarife. Darüber hinaus sind es eher selbst-gewählte Abhängigkeiten in denen der PKW durchaus eine Alternative ist, die Schiene aber trotzdem von einer Vielzahl ihrer Nutzer bewusst vorgezogen wird und mit Überlastung zu kämpfen hat. Daher kann ich das „zu teuer“ nicht nachvollziehen.
Im Fernverkehr zieht es noch weniger, denn hier bestimmt die Nachfrage sowie die Knappheit des Gutes den Preis. Und da wird sich ständig über zu hohe Preise beklagt obwohl die Züge regelmäßig übervoll sind. Da passt also was nicht zusammen.
@@TVClipsDeutschland dann nenn mir ein Konzept wie man auch im ländlichen raum effizienten Nahverkehr anbieten kann. Wie gesagt Busse und Bahnen sind einfach zu teuer um sie im ländlichen Raum zuverlässig und mit einer angemessenen Taktung einzusetzen. Wir müssen von der Illusion des perfekten Nahverkehrs wegkommen und schauen was kann man sinnvoll verbessern und was nicht?
