I had no idea that they offered the role to Charlie..I am happy that joe got the part if I am not mistaken he even won an award as best actor or something which is very well deserved
Yeah thank god Charlie Hunnam never got near it. He absolutely butchered a cockney accent in Green Street, so his scouse probably would have sounded Indian.
Great podcast! The film was amazing I hope it gets more recognition! I think the best film I’ve seen joe Cole’s in acting. The parts where there was hardly any talking his acting and bringing the emotion was incredible had me in tears several times. Couldn’t have asked for a better actor to tell your story 🥰
He's a phenomenal actor. The part where he's staring at his buddy who came to visit him. He looked sooo broken, no soul and tears coming down his face. That's phenomenal acting
Everything happens for a reason. A measure of good acting for me is when you can't imagine anybody else playing a particular role, and nobody could've played that part better than Joe did. He was immense.
Brilliant... And yes the best actor was picked for your role Billy... Joe Cole is amazing.. Took a lot of balls to walk away from peaky blinders I am sure he will go far.. Such a nice person to stay friends with you and helping you with your Joe... Awsome
How did i forget that the movie is based on a true story? It's awesome u got to do this! He's a phenomenal actor - loved him ever since the movie where he avenges his pregnant girlfriend's attack. Absolutely loved him in Peaky & when he left, it wasn't the same for me.
I don’t know why I am so excited for this..guess it’s the only thing I am looking forward too during corona and I might regret watching this since I am supposed to study for Uni but this seems much more entertaining..
Really great interview and impressive story. Would have loved to have it on any video on demand plateform.. Hope it will arrive on Amazon prime someday!🙏🏻
Joe Cole 😍 I became an instant fan after seeing the movie, very much impressed with his acting and fighting, such dedication. Well done! Intense story Billy, you must be tough as a nail. 😉
Just watched the whole podcast and I am really grateful to hear your and Joe's thoughts on the movie. It's a great movie I watched it yesterday and been thinking about it for hours. Btw I love your accents and really enjoyed listening to both of you.❤
A brilliant podcast! I have absolutely loved that film and I keep recommanding it to people I know. Joe is just amazing in every role but this one was so special. Thank you Billy for sharing so much and for being so humble and genuine. You are very inspirational.
Cheers billy your an inspiration haven't had a drink or drugs for nearly a month apart from some weed but it's not a drug in my opinion going to go back to Muay Thai training next week when the gyms open here again they should never have been shut in the first place peoples mental health is fucked excuse the language suicide is off the scale in Belfast wee suggestion for you mate you should try and get Eamon Magee on check his book out it's called the lost soul of Eamon Magee Belfast's hardest man in my opinion 🥊🍀
Great podcast once again Billy, one point though, can you do something with the mic set-up. When your guests lean back the volume drops unnoticeably, Joe is hard to hear without bumping up the volume, which then results in you voice booming through 👍
Just listened to the Audible version of your book. Very powerful and superbly narrated by Rupert Farley. Next stop is to watch the movie. Onwards and upwards mate.
Only 2 films I could watch over and over.....gladiator and prayer before dawn.... I live where the film jail was Nakon Phanom.. Brill interview..........
You really have turned your life around Billy you should be proud of what you've achieved especially conquering your demons and getting clean which is no easy feat I know from experience. The battle is only ever half done you will always be recovering just stay strong and keep on top mate 👍
These podcasts are better than James English, better than Joe Rogan. Another great one Billy and besides his obvious acting ability what a sound fella Joe Cole is 👍
That was so interesting show, and now we know better what happened in behind the story I really enjoyed also recommend to everyone thank you so much for making that and sharing with us best all for you
Its great you two are still mates he seems a great lad I really did not no what to expect from joe. An the film, there's almost no film I watch twice but I've seen A prayer before dawn 2 times. Awesome film truly brilliant. 🏴🏴🏴
Superb podcast Billy.I just watched that final scene again hadn't seen it in years. That was powerful mate words would have ruined it.Take care God bless.
Been following you and your brother for the last few months and just found out about your books and the film...well done mate, on all fronts. Your brother is an inspiration (and a Blue...:)).
Good listen im on the bit about your Dad i lost my dad at 16 an it was hard mate he was pretty old skool like your own dad mate but the night he died he told me he loved me an it was a moment that stayed with me he was ill an i feel he knew it was gonna happen it was a lovely moment followed by a traumatic night but i feel ye pain mate speaking about it is tough for me still now but stay strong billy mate great pods la 😢💙
I never knew the movie was partly filmed in the Philippines because I’m actually watching this podcast from Manila the Philippines and I’m also a scouser which has just blown my mind to be honest 😮
Billy, u should make a film about the aftermath of getting outa jail in Thailand, making the film, your illness/addiction in Cannes down to the prison cell you spoke about. But more importantly, where u are now
Crackin podcast Billy, great to see Joe who played his part in an unbelievable film. It's such a powerful film it's hard to get your head round what you went through and to where you are now 👏👏👏👍
Enjoyed this tonight Billy ( put it on in the bath & had to stay in till the end - the water was fucking freezing ! ) Good chat with Joe Cole, who seems like a good lad as well as an excellent actor. An emotive film is “A Prayer Before Dawn” and really interesting to hear ya both talk about the scene at the end, where you play your dad meeting yourself ( Joe Cole ), as you come out of prison. A very powerful scene as you say, with no words spoken, which makes a massive, thought-provoking moment for the viewer, right at the end of the madness that has gone before in the film, as your story is told. Good stuff indeed, love films like that, which tell a real-life story. Where there’s a will, there will always be a way, there’s always a fucking way.......! UTFT
Interesting, Nice one 👏🏼 read your book, saw the film ~Joe was magic as usual 💙 amazed you were able to survive such brutal experiences 👊🏼 I doubt many could do the same. You, your brother and Joe are the 3 best to see on social media, such a lovely bond you have. Love how you have built up your brothers confidence and are his rock. He’s the perfect example of why I love working in special education ~innocent big spirits. He’s hilarious! Whose the daddy?! 😂 Big Love from the US🇺🇸to the UK🇬🇧 💜🖤🤍
Great podcast Bill don’t think you could have got anyone better to play you . Ordered pray before dawn last night and new book will be coming for my birthday. Any chance you could do a do any of these interviews in front of a audience would love to hear Darrens tales live mate 😂
If they do a film when you was a child growing up in liverpool would be a great film set in liverpool aswell billy lad as a prequel before a prayer before dawn well done for getting bigger stars on for us billy lad from dave the rave in scouseland
I'd be lying if I said I'm not here to look at joe cole for 1 hour and 10 minutes

@SF-jp8mi you batty boi
Joe deserves all the recognition in the world🙏🏻
Ikr!!!!!!!!
One of the most underrated films of recents times and a tour de force in acting by Joe I am so glad Charlie Hunan didn’t end up doing it.
Yes me too Joe was perfect 👌
I had no idea that they offered the role to Charlie..I am happy that joe got the part if I am not mistaken he even won an award as best actor or something which is very well deserved
Charlie hunman couldn’t do a scouse accent hahah his cockney one is bad enough
Yeah thank god Charlie Hunnam never got near it. He absolutely butchered a cockney accent in Green Street, so his scouse probably would have sounded Indian.
Great podcast! The film was amazing I hope it gets more recognition! I think the best film I’ve seen joe Cole’s in acting. The parts where there was hardly any talking his acting and bringing the emotion was incredible had me in tears several times. Couldn’t have asked for a better actor to tell your story 🥰
💯❤️🙌
He's a phenomenal actor. The part where he's staring at his buddy who came to visit him. He looked sooo broken, no soul and tears coming down his face. That's phenomenal acting
Can't believe he's not from Birmingham, his accent in Peaky Blinders sounded legit!

@Jay Jay yes
Everything happens for a reason. A measure of good acting for me is when you can't imagine anybody else playing a particular role, and nobody could've played that part better than Joe did. He was immense.
