I think the price difference is proportional to the difference in image quality. The Canon lens is more expensive, but much sharper. + You only once have to buy a lens, if you can take care of it.
I've got both and I prefer the Canon for being smaller and a better construction quality, but the Yongnuo is pretty amazing as well for its price, is not too noisy and focus fast.
Hey, not hating on the Yongnuo, the images are pretty much the same but i dropped the Yongnuo once and it broke. I got the Canon as a replacement. Honest assessment? If you can guarantee not to drop it, go for the Yong.
I own both. Before I got the Canon STM, I used the Yongnuo for nighttime streetphotography at f:2. The Yongnuo condistently had A LOT more trouble focussing in low light, both in speed and accuracy on all my bodies (550D, 50D and even the 7D). I now use the 24mm 'pancake' f2.8 more. Wide open it is very sharp, and handheld at 1/10s it is easier to hold steady than a 50mm at 1/20s for the same exposure without pushing the ISO. You do need to get a lot closer for portaits, though. Always a trade-off...
Mostly focused on Picture at this point and the Yongnuo seems almost as good of a quality as the canon for way less money. Autofocus might not be as good but that depends on the camera also. What really puts a point for the canon is the quality build... the Yongnuo lens seems like it can't hold on any beat up whatsoever, the 1st version had even plastic connection to the body. For what i can see the Yongnuo will take pictures about as sharp and good (not really noiceable the gap) but it will last a lot less than the Canon...
In your comparison, the canon lens is blurry in the corner compared to the yongnuo, it seems significant difference. I would go for the trusted brand, i.e Canon.
Great review! I was curious how Yongnuo's brand-new 50mm is, and could get much info. I reckon Yongnuo's one looks cooler than Canon's one... Anyway thanks👏
Which is better the full frame sensor or the asp-c sensor? So you said it's better to get the canon 50mm stm well i will definitely buy that lens so is it good in low light
Does anyone else notice that the Yongnuo is a bit wider than Canon? Also, Yongnuo is brighter wide open, which leads to believing that it has wider aperture. Like, It's got F1.8, while Canon's got something like F1.87-f1.9 actual, marketed as f1.8
Hi Sir, I'm planning to buy a new lens. what lens can you recommend for close up video recording? I make DIY videos on my channel so I need some closeup shots when showing details on my videos. hope you reply
As someone who shot at least 15 50mm lenses, the canon looks a lot better wide open and close to it. That said, It doesnt look 100% better. For the kind of money yongnuos are going for its a no brainer.
Funny thing though. I have the Sigma 50 1.4 Art and Im really beginning to think that it might be too sharp for the type of photography I do. Its sharp to the point that some of the photos I take look fake.
Good comparison. Really informational. I just bought the canon 50mm and am really happy with it. Just uploaded my first video shot with this lens (which is actually my first video ever). Would love feedback of somebody with your knowledge.
Great review and comparison.. i search a comparison between canon 50mm f1.8 II vs yongnuo 50mm f1.8 II but cannot find it. all the comparison is with the STM version. i think many of beginner Photographer want to know about it..
Yongnuo is Much better Optic than Canon Mk 1 or 2 itself, so that's why no one will compare with other old series than STM, why would you compare Bad Mk2 Canon lens with STM and Yongnuo if the Yongnuo is still better than Mk1 or 2 Canon self?
Can you please review EOS Canon M50 vs Canon g7x mark ii which is better for UA-cam videos which is better in low light and autofocus, size, etc etc? I prefer your explanations and detailed reviews
ja55on I wouldn't buy anything new from eBay but that's just me. It is at BnH with a warranty and it's a reputable store. But,again, I think you should do what is best for you.☺ I need a couple vintage lenses but they are so expensive now! Before they became so popular, they were dirt cheap! I've been thinking about getting an Olympus OM-D E-M10 m11. Anybody have any experience with it?
I would rather spend a little more on the canon lens it is a little more sharper in the images and yes I am just now starting out in cameras or photography so I am a newbie at this at 64 years of age
I think the canon is sharper until f/4 where they are pretty much the same. For the price its a hard decision. In Germany the Youngnou costs 70€ vs the canon at 120€. I really don`t know which to choose. Can somebody pls give me some advice? Im a beginner and massiv cheapskate but pixel peeper at the same time...
Canon is sharp and has more contrast and MTF. (see 8:27). Any firmware upgrade risks that the YN lens will no longer be recognized on your camera. YN pays no royalty to Canon, it's just a low cost pirated brand.
i have another question which one is better to have 50mm 1.8 or the 50mm 1.4 or do i buy the both of them or i only need one help me out cause they're cheap. my next door neighbor have a camera bag with 10 lens in it and he said he spend over 25,000 dollars and i was holding my head i think i only need 4 lens and call it a day. i can buy an expensive lens and don't know how to use it then i'm screwed and i don't waste money like that. here's what people are telling me they said i need a 24-70 f2.8 17-50 f2.8 and 50mm 1.8 and 18-35 f1.8 cause i already have a zoom lens. remember now my camera doesn't have video so i will get another camera that can shoot video and i will have lenses already.
Yongnuo is sharper but misses focus alot... the first one I had didn't even focus in live view, it got stuck and the motor inside went nuts, the one i have now works great both on my dslr and my mirrorless system
I came across to a 50mm Canon f/1.8 few days ago at 36€ (new!) on Ebay. I was stuck because they price was too damn good to be true, as it costs 100€ on Amazon (best price). Eventually when I decided to buy it, gone... 2 left and 2 sold in no time, with my Canon 50mm on the basket, ready to be bought. I was going to cry... 😂 There's also a new Younguo 50mm f/1.4, but then the price is around 170€ and it seems to struggle a lot with autofocus at f/1.4
There is no much price difference between old and new yongnue 50mm. And new one is better and improved, specifically new make less sound while auto focusing. So go for new one Hope it wil help.
paid review. do not works with my 77d and phase autofocus. back-focusing all the time. works ok only with live view. 1 0.3 firmware update from the yongnuo doesn't fix the problem. 1.8 aperture is not usable due to softness.
Glad to see Yongnuo improved so much in the second version of the lens.
so you're the second one is better than the first one
Great comparison! Honestly I think the younguo wins it, that price is 👌
Thanks man! Definitely hard to beat it for the price
Kyle Da Silva Nah, I'd rather save and get better glass.
I think the price difference is proportional to the difference in image quality. The Canon lens is more expensive, but much sharper. + You only once have to buy a lens, if you can take care of it.
this yongnuo 2 is it better than the original one
The yongnuo is not sharp
I've got both and I prefer the Canon for being smaller and a better construction quality, but the Yongnuo is pretty amazing as well for its price, is not too noisy and focus fast.
Is yongnuo mark ii as fast as canon stm? Im considering buy one of them
Hey, not hating on the Yongnuo, the images are pretty much the same but i dropped the Yongnuo once and it broke. I got the Canon as a replacement. Honest assessment? If you can guarantee not to drop it, go for the Yong.
could you drop the canon as well? for the sake of comparioson =)
Well, honestly speaking, I don't know what lens would not break if you dropped it hahaha.
Paid $50 on amazon and got mine with a 4 year warranty so I’m good 😏
@@holderua I did it! Canon split in 3 pieces.
@@ViniciusSP7 so did mine... 😒

I have the canon but the yongnuo would be a great gift for my not so serious friends and family.
so you're saying the yongnuo would be for someone who's a hobbyist and canon is for professionals
big cliff professionals use either one. Gear doesn’t determine the level of professionalism; skill does.
Hi Sir, I'm planning to buy a new lens. what lens can you recommend for close up video recording? I make DIY videos on my channel so I need some closeup shots when showing details on my videos. hope you reply
Canon 60mm F2.8 or the 24mm F2.8 if you are on a budget
ok cool. thank you so much.
As someone who shot at least 15 50mm lenses, the canon looks a lot better wide open and close to it. That said, It doesnt look 100% better. For the kind of money yongnuos are going for its a no brainer.
Ya they are really good. Just very low focusing for video
Funny thing though. I have the Sigma 50 1.4 Art and Im really beginning to think that it might be too sharp for the type of photography I do. Its sharp to the point that some of the photos I take look fake.
Great comparation, I didn't find this video in spanish
You should fix your focusing on your streaming camera though.. specially when you are showing something near in the lens

The yongnuo is a efs lens which is good that's why it's a little bit wider.
You have explained all the aspects. Thanks man..👍👍
Why is the Yongnuo bigger😭 it looks like an L - lens
Yes haha
So you can use your 18-55 filters on it without buying a step up adapter
What camera would you recommend for an aspiring blogger/vlogger? I'm a beginner but have a general idea how cameras work and am a fast learner.
The canon SL2 !
TbonesTech thanks! I was looking between 80D, and t7i

Does the version 2 suitable for my canon m50 with adapter?
yes
so i can buy both of them one for my full frame and one for my crop sensor
Link still doesn’t show new lens. Amazon doesn’t know when they will be getting the New Yongnuo according to Amazon rep. B&H has it for $79
🤔
Ebay has it 🙈

A great review. It really helps! Will buy the yongnou soon :)
Awesome!
I don't know why there isn't a Nikon version of YN50mm F1.8 II.
your video quality is awsome!!whats your gear?
which is better for filming canon 70D? Do i need a lens stabilization when i have it in the camera?
The Canon is A LOT better. But any 50mm without stabilisation on an APS-C body will be challenging at best...
I would rather spend a little more on the canon lens it is a little more sharper in the images and yes I am just now starting out in cameras or photography so I am a newbie at this at 64 years of age

Yes it will work great
“YoungNo” lol.
Younguo sucks. Had to return two, error code when it anything other than f1.8. Now have the canon and can notice the difference in sharpness
Yongnuo is sharper but misses focus alot... the first one I had didn't even focus in live view, it got stuck and the motor inside went nuts, the one i have now works great both on my dslr and my mirrorless system

how about the noise for videography?
I address noise towards end of the video
len for potrain not sence
Would you recommend me to yongnuo for video?
Yongnuo is definitely for photography mainly, while the stm ver is much quieter, more smoother for video
Thank you so much!
Can i use Canon 800d ???
Yo does youg lens 50mm fits to eos 2000d
Thanks for the tip!
Thank's for nice video bro 👍👍👍
this is not filmed with 80d !!you upscaled the hd footage

There is no much price difference between old and new yongnue 50mm.

Is This Man Canadian ‽
Cause i hear him sayin pitchers instead of pictures..
In French actually. Which is somewhat similar to Canadian
Can I use this for M50?
Arin yeah, just get a mount converter from EF-M to EF.
Exactly want Aidan said!
search for Meike MK-C-AF4

Don Dan, thank you, but I bought the original one which cannon had.
Since both the video and still tests were conducted in natural light, you really didn't have a controlled environment.
It’s a real world test! Lab tests are so boring haha
can connect to sl3/200d ii??
Yes

wonderful
Canon 50mm feels premium.... meh

How did you update the lens? Can you share the link to download the file?
AF finetune/mirco adjust is needed, which is quite normal. I do the same for all my lenses. They all need some level of adjustment.
Thank you I will do the update and make some tests.
I was actually enjoying watching your videos but you have too much adds so bye bye..
