    Talking about the new trickle in/out system I've put in place. Any recommendations on best way to alter the flow rate coming into the drum?
    Also talking about the bottom drain and air pumps, and playing around with air flows to see how well I can get an equilibrium within the pond.

    That is one hell of a nice pond you built and it looks like your new fishys already recognize you. When you got close to the glass they came a running. Daddy is here! Lol

    Koi are looking pretty happy in your pond and water. What a great start. Currently I base my trickle in amount based on TDS, nitrate, KH and Total chlorine levels. Of course zero ammonia and nitrite. Loving your channel.

    • @NishikigoiwithOliver
      @NishikigoiwithOliver  3 роки тому

      Interesting to note. My KH is ridiculous, like 18. The water is so high! TDS is ridiculously high too, around 400 or so. Chlorine is 0 because of the dechlorinator. Nitrate is definitely creeping up now though. I think it's around 60, but finally starting to get the algae blooms and things. Will easily take a good 6 months or so until the pond reaches an equilibrium between things. Always something to tweak!

    Hi mate great video how are you measuring water going out in skimmer please

  • @northernkoikeeper512
    @northernkoikeeper512 3 роки тому

    I liked the video Oliver. That pond is awesome and will be able to cope with a lot of fish. I've been using Uniseals for a long while now. You don't need to CT1 a Uniseal as they always form a water tight seal. I've never had one leak at all. If you want a cheaper version of CT1 use HA6 or even better Idealseal MS290. The Idealseal is supposed to be a cheaper version of Goldseal and can be used underwater. I use a Digital Flowmeter (from Vyair) on my trickle out so I can easily see and adjust the flow. Be very careful if you decide to do a big trickle in/out as if you increase the flow too much through your dechlorinator then chlorine can go through if the dechlorinator hasn't got time to take it out. I got a lovely size Kohaku bought online from Adam Byer Koi farm. It was almost 50cm for £195. He does breed some great fish.

    • @NishikigoiwithOliver
      @NishikigoiwithOliver  3 роки тому

      Hey bud thanks for the thoughtful response. I probably didn't need the ct1 at all, but prevention is better than a cure! Those Uniseals are magic I swear.
      I'll take a look at those other types!
      Regarding the dechlorinator, I've had it running on full blast for hours, and tested for chlorine and still nothing so it seems to be able to handle the flow rate lovely.
      Adam does some gorgeous fish. Can't wait to go back up there and no doubt end up with an empty wallet!

    That froth on the top will go it’s normally a sign that your shower tower is maturing so it’s a good sign people only just started using showers I’ve used them for years there the best filter man could use for his koi . Koi are heathlier they seem more hungry amd more active if this was only thro the summer time u would say it was because of the extra oxygen but even with my water being 5-7 c my koi all active and still allway feed so I think there’s more to it then just extra oxygen but lovely looking pond well done just spend 10 mins a day looking and checking those lovely koi and once a week do all your water testing your fish should tell u there’s some thing wrong with your water any way

      Still seems the tank is cycling to be honest. Nitrite spiking at the moment. The froth was mainly from the bacteria that I was adding in, but it doesn't seemed to have helped much!

  • @MrLouth
    @MrLouth 3 роки тому +1

    With the volume of water you're working with and the amount of fish you currently have, you most likely won't need to change 10% a week. Accounting for feeding too

    look for a 12mm push in Flow Control Valve Uni Directional Plastic body on ebay for your trickle in mate, and a cpl bits of tubing ans a cpl jub clips. but u want it before the purifier not after

    • @NishikigoiwithOliver
      @NishikigoiwithOliver  3 роки тому

      Ah, banging. I came across a few similar things. I think I've managed it without it for the time being, but need to get something proper in place. I have a few ball valves on the line coming to the top, so tweaked them down and so on. Problem with me reducing things before the purifier, it doesn't put enough pressure through to actually cause enough to trickle out. I think I need to keep pressure all the way up until the point it's actually exiting the hose.

    • @sephuk
      @sephuk 3 роки тому

      @@NishikigoiwithOliver looks like you are changing about the same as me per week you should be fine pressure wise that shouldnt matter you just have to rduce the flow slowly thats why i have one of those valves, you get all the control you need

    Looks awesome! Too bad you don't have a overflow to flow out the pond foam. That's what I do, flow it off in my overflow

    • @NishikigoiwithOliver
      @NishikigoiwithOliver  3 роки тому +1

      The skimmer kind of handles it. I ended up manually removing it from the skimmers. It was only foaming because of the bio kick-start stuff I was adding, but stopped using it now. Other than a few bubbles around the shower which is too be expected, it's pretty clean!
      Overflows are great though. Very similar to the skimmer I guess. Foam just happens to stay floating in most cases annoyingly.

    need help have pond one air pump fitting 18mm I need to adapt to 8mm air pipe any ideas? The pump came with a rubber tube that is about 18mm but can not seem to find a fitting for my large air stone that has a 8mm pipe.

      Should be able to get a valve that sits inside of the 18mm pipe that has nipples on the end for the 8mm pipe. Worth looking at air pump fittings on a koi shop for it bud

    • @NishikigoiwithOliver
      @NishikigoiwithOliver  3 роки тому +1

      Managed to sort that, but still didn't make much difference. I had mini ball valves on the pipework coming to the tap itself, so reduced them down a touch, and now got about 10 to 15% changing a week. Still going to do something a bit better than hose just sitting like that though I think

    Hello mate for your trickle in you could get one of these ua-cam.com/video/6-gJct83VoY/v-deo.html this allows you to control how much water you want to trickle in and than it shuts off. It’s a good bit of kit. Takes about 1 week to get delivered.
