Thank you for the comment! The Marlin Crawler TacoBox is an extra selectable reduction unit (what we call a "Crawl Box") that is engaged only when you need more control, more traction, more torque, more reaction time, and more safety. When the TacoBox is disengaged, the truck returns to it's 100% factory gearing for normal trail, city, and highway use.

Reminds me of an old ts125 Suzuki I had that I geared in the basement.
in low range you could dump the clutch at idle and if you got off and held the handlebar so it went around you in a circle it took about 20 seconds.
You could idle up to a tree and it would stand up on it.
It made up for a lack of 2 stroke torque

BigMike has put together the following FAQ to help answer questions surrounding the Marlin Crawler TacoBox
*How can a truck go so slow without dragging its brakes, and how can it possibly climb a rock taller than itself without any throttle or even a driver?*
It has a Marlin Crawler TacoBox.
*What is a Marlin Crawler TacoBox?*
A Marlin Crawler TacoBox is our dual case setup for automatic or manual transmission 2.7-liter, 3.4-liter, 3.5-liter, 4.0-liter, and 4.7-liter Toyota 4WD drivetrains for T100, Tacoma, 4Runner, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Sequoia, and GX470.
Side note: The name TacoBox is derived from "Tacoma" plus "Crawl Box" (our nickname for our classic 1979-1995 dual case setup). Its name was inspired by the Tacoma because it was first used in a Tacoma, July of 2000, when Marlin Crawler became the first to Dual Case a Tacoma. It fits many non-Tacoma drivetrains (listed above) and we've been installing Dual Case setups into 1995 and newer Toyota trucks ever since!
    *Required modifications*
The TacoBox measures approx. 8.5" in length and is inserted between your existing transmission and transfer case. Because the transfer case is moved reward 8.5-inches, the front drive line is lengthened 8.5" and rear shortened 8.5". On applications with a two piece rear drive shaft, only the front piece of the rear two-piece drive shaft is shortened and the factory carrier bearing remains in it's original position. To operate the TacoBox, an additional shift lever is installed into the interior. This is the only aspect which is not "bolt-in" as some custom work is required along with a new boot from your local upholstery shop. Shifters can be positioned within about a half foot radius to the TacoBox to decide to sacrifice a cup holder, or coin tray slot, or plastic bezel, and so on. Here is a gallery of examples on various vehicles www.marlincrawler.com/tech/transfercase/marlin-crawler-interior-shifter-picture-archive
*Does it alter the way the vehicle operates, computer interference, gas mileage, daily driver?*
When the TacoBox is not needed, it is shifted into HIGH which is a 1:1 ratio. Torque enters and exits at the same rate. Other than an extra 45 pounds, the truck has no clue the TacoBox exists. You can daily drive the truck both city and highway like normal. Fuel mileage is unaffected (

MarlinCrawlerMedia so how fast will the truck go?

    • @MarlinCrawlerMedia
      @MarlinCrawlerMedia 6 років тому +3

Thank you for the question @whatfreedom7. The top speed for this truck should be electronically limited at 110 MPH. Our large, oversized and heavy duty double-row TacoBox mainshaft bearing is speed-rated to 127 MPH with 37" tires and 5.29:1 Ring & Pinions. Thanks!

MarlinCrawlerMedia would you oppose running a 4.70 in a crawl box? I have a 21spline 2.28 crawl box to a 23 spline 2.28 transfer case. I came up on a 21spline 4.70 gears set. Would it be okay to install in the crawl box? Running 5.29 gears lunch box lockers and chromoly axles front and rear with 35” tires.

If you send me a datalog of the engine idling with and without AC I can tell you, with very high accuracy, what HP (and therefore torque it is making at idle.) TorquePro $5 app and a $10 ELM327 from Amazon is all you need.

I like it except for the fact that I need a shift lever and a large hole in my new trucks floor.. would think you would go with a cable operated option that could go through one of the existing electrical gromets, or even a push button high/low neutral switch...

A long time ago there was a company that sold a kit to splice two GM Turbo 400 transmissions together. When it was in double 1st gear it was pretty creepy, not as creepy as your's , but pretty good, and you could quickly upshift if needed.

So with that setup you effectively lose the cup holders, is this possible on an automatic?

Is the a basic off the shelf setup or is there a lot of massaging to get this kind combo to work together?

Thought it was bad to make a bigger reduction into a smaller case. Sorry if I worded that wrong but I was told I shouldn’t put a 4.7 that I already have in front of another 2.28. Was told I’d have to do another 4.7 behind it or the 2.28 in front I don’t know how true that is and hoped it isn’t so I can just stick a top shift 2.28 behind my forward shift 4.7 so with all that said how are you running the 2.28 + 4.7 in a 2.57? Would it ever hurt the 2.57?

Wow have things changed, nice rig. Where was this in the late eighties early nineties? Would have been nice to have on some of the trails. Blue Canyon, Jose basin, swamp lake, And many others in the 559 area. This would have been nice for the turtle crawl to take away some of the Trophies from the 4x4 club Sons of the legend. Keep on crawling and have a good one.
