I lost words out of my mouth, engineering technology and science humans brain is more than what I can imagine. I'm very emotional, lots of love and hugs to all of you engineers, technicians that worked on this Boeing 747. You guys just awesome.
My Dad worked directly for Boeing as a electrician for the planes on the maintenance crew, I am so proud of his 15-20 years he served to make sure that all electrical components were wired and functioned correctly cause the electrical is the life blood of what can keep a plane up in the air as well as take off and landing. His by the book attitude when it came to working on these behemoths makes him a very respectable, I inherited his same attitude when it comes to doing any job.
I am an aircraft electrician as well. I have said for years that electrical systems must be 100%, 100% of the time. This is true for aircraft, cars or buildings. Must be 100% all the time. It is tedious work that requires acute attention to detail to be checked and verified several time over.
Absolutely love this documentary but next time please watch the music versus the commentary. The music is way too loud even my closed caption couldn't accurately determine the words being said. Other than that - amazing video!! Please make more. I'd love to see an entire series on airplane engineering!
I've been a design engineer for the engine build-up (EBU) since 1991. And after so many new projects from the ground up and re-engining programs, it still fascinating and blows my mind how those engines are able to push the heavy bodies through the air for so many hours non-stop. Kudos to those women and men that put them together and to maintain them in such a good condition!
Umm it sounds like the voice channels were turned down and the background music is at a default level. Sounds like what they need is an editor with a passion for editing.... correctly.
I've been an aircraft technician since my days in the US Air Force and then into my civilian career. The amount of dedication to excellence that goes into keeping these awesome machines in service never ceases to amaze me. Hats off to all of my colleagues around the world! I love you all. We all have the safety of our passengers foremost at heart.
She will ALWAYS be the "Queen of the Skies". I actually got a little teary eyed by the end of the video. To see and feel the pride of these engineers in seeing their charge taking so beautifully back to the skies. (The audio was atrocious, though.)
I was working 1988 for Cummings Engine based in Columbus, Indiana. And just arrived at Sea-Tac and on my way into Seattle. I was surprised by a Boeing 747-400 coming in for landing at Boeing field next to and along the I-5! It was a magnificent view to see so close! A few years later I had my first opportunity to travel on the upper deck of a new Korean Air 747-400 from JFK roundtrip to Seoul, Korea. Those 15 hr flights on this aircraft were certainly a lifetime experience! I received once a free upgrade to first class in seat A1 from Dallas-Ft Worth to Tokyo with an American Airlines 747-400. Actor Angela Landsbergis, in "Murder she Wrote" had seat B1. She was a very pleasant and interesting travel companion. My seat A1 was special! I was sitting so far in the furthest part of the nose cone that I had a view forward. I had a great view when we landed in Tokyo! American Airlines service from Dallas-Ft Worth to Tokyo in first class is a unique experience and about the best I have experienced! A British Airways flight on a new 747-400 from Dulles Washington to Heathrow was also a great experience. It was easy to notice how happy and proud the crew was on that new 747! That made the flight so much special. I am concerned if an epic epoch in air travel will be over when other aircraft are replacing the 747-400?
as a first year 6th former that aspires to become an engineer in the flight industry this was a very entertaining and educational video, it isnt every day that you get to see the insides of these planes and i hope to one day be carrying out some of these jobs myself. it is unfortunate that the audio from the music was overpowering at points but still a very entertaining video and i applaud the effort that has gone into it
Could have been a really ground-breaking video but the needless racket from the background music spoils so very many of these documentary type video's and if you put the subtitles on they seem meaningless to what we are watching.
"I have never heard of a 747 getting down to flying with those 3 instruments, there is a huge amount of redundency". Not a 747 but the United Airlines crash of a DC-10 had complete hydraulic failure. This was so unexpected that there was not even a checklist for it.
The 747 is not "affectionately known as the 'jumbo jet'". That is what it's actually called. It's affectionately called the "Queen of the Skies"! Good documentary ruined by very poor audio mixing.
I can't figure out if these docs are made for kids or adults. Alot of the dialogue is so juvenile and they try to create excitment about things only kids will find exciting. Oh wow, I get to push this button to make lightning happen... come on.

I went back and watched the original I had recorded when it was broadcast in 2012, and the volume of the music is much quieter in that version - you can hardly hear the music when they are talking. Seems like somewhere between the original production and this UA-cam version the audio mix was messed up, as whoever created the original audio did the job just fine. I wonder how that happens?
So thats how the wheels fit after takeoff. I have always wondered how they would fit underneath the airplane. Now my childhood question has finally been answered after 32 years.
@@someoneelse7629 indeed that is the case. if you search for "engineering giants" you can find several releases of it. look for the earliest, the audio is better.
Brilliant documentary and very fascinating to watch! But yeah, as so many have said, the music simply was interfering too much with the narration, it's a shame. Apart from that it was awesome!

Unfortunately all good things come to an end and these inclement times don't help. A lot off airlines are heading for more efficient aircraft now to keep costs down. I understand quantes has retired most if not all its jumbos now. Even though they were improved dramatically over 50 years they didn't do too bad considering some passenger airplanes didn't last half as long. There is one consolation i understand watching programmes online that some jumbos are being converted into cargo luggers so still life in some old gal's yet . I hope this makes feel better. 😷😁🌈
Very interesting. I flew by first class on the upper deck on a British Airways 747 from St Lucia Caribbean. This is my favourite plane with the Airbus A380 coming 2nd. Great quality video. Thanks for sharing
Quality video? OK, but the audio was horrific. Great plane though. I last flew on a 747 from Seattle to Seoul back in '98. I'm still impressed today with that machine. Magnificent is an understatement.
Great doc however, when the back ground music is playing the narrators voice becomes obscured & I was listening to it thru my wifi into my hifi @ high volumes. Perhaps headphones may have helped.
The sound mix is all over the place; the voice over is sometimes so low compared to the music, that you cannot understand the words. My suspicion is that this show was originally mixed for TVs with surround speakers, and when converted to plain stereo for uploading to UA-cam, the surround channels were given the same volume as the center channel, and that changed all the levels.
Watching in 2020 as all the airlines are retiring their 747 fleet. I wish I could have flown on one, I've never flown overseas, so never been on the queen of the sky's.
Seems like an interesting documentary. Would love to see a version of it where the narrator isn't buried -40dB underneath the plane sounds and weird synth msuic. I love aviation history and I bet the stuff he's saying is super interesting. They should let a non-insane person mix the audio!
