- Today we are going to talk about one of the most exciting events in the Olympics. Track Relay Race Rules
In a relay, race athletes compete in teams.
Each team consists of four players.
The team that completes four separate baton passes legally and successfully and has its last runner cross the finish line first wins the race.
We will encourage you to watch the complete video until the end to understand the complete details about the rules of a track relay race.

Is the baton suppose to be in your right hand or left hand during exchange or any hand? I'm trying to get into athletics
Mr A: The runner must carry the baton by hand, if it is dropped, it can be picked up.
Also Mr. A: If the baton is dropped in the middle of the race, the team is disqualified.

My teammate dropped as he tried to pass it to me and it went into another lane. I waited for the other team to pass as we were winning until then. Once they left I got the baton and won even tho they had a head start on me and we got disqualified. They did too for some reason idk why.

the 4x 400 relay is run differently due to the fact the 2nd leg is still in the same lane and then cross over-followed by the placement of the next leg 3 and 4 runners - when the baton is at the 200 meter mark-- once placed by the official- you do not change spots- even if the incoming line up has changed, since the 200 meter mark

Yes it matter which hand u have it in. If you is the first one u must have it in ur right, second left, third right, last left

Im super nervous I have a meet tomorrow and it’s my first time running a relay. Im so confused because my relay coach isn’t a very good explainer and told me that I’m running the bend of the track but I’m running a 4x4?? 😭😭
she also said something about me being in a lane then merging into the first lane?? Im still so confused.
If you drop the baton no need to panic you don't get disqualified, but only the the runner who drop it can pick it up.

The relay sounds nerve-wracking, our team will probably join "for fun" and I'm on that team and I'm not that fast to begin with. I have javelin for my main event and 100m dash for my second event(thought that 100m was easy, it wasn't, my side hurts when I run, I regret doing this, and still am regretting it) but that doesnt mean I'm fast in running. I got beaten by 3 seconds in a friendly race with my friend in 100m dash, and I tell you, I did my very BEST and still got beaten...I'm scared for the meet...

Why are some runners placed in front of others
Because the bigger the circle gets the longer u have to run to the persons on the outer sides are place in front for equal diatance

My daughter's 4x100 relay team was DQed today because of takeover zone.
Saddest part was they were the first team to reach the goal but was disqualified.

This helped me so much because I had a test on the race. I DO recommend that if Your P.E Coach tells you and why you may ask. My coach said to go on UA-cam and see a real race because you guys did not follow the directions.
