Had three of the Sectaurs as a kid. As an adult, I rounded out the action figures thanks to online auctions. They were high quality, durable and cool then and now.

Just like Visionaries, I wished these brand were a hit enough to have more cartoon episodes. I’m surprised no toy company has taken a stab at recreating them

I feel, the figures as they were would still do well, with a few tweaks, but would do good.
OR do a Masters of the Universe Classics take on them.

I am now 46 and in 1985 I was into GI Joe, because they were more affordable, smaller, and based on real military-style weaponry and vehicles. The smaller size allowed for all of my figures to fit in a gym bag easily, plus the weapons they wielded where based on real firearms, etc, for the most part, which I find cooler. I like the artistic look of the sci-fi style Sectaurs, and especially an assault looking firearm you showed toward the end looked nice. The larger sized Sectaurs is more reminiscent of the 1960's GI Joes, reminding me at that time of "Barbie" dolls. Had they been made in the size of the GI Joes of that time for a lower price I speculate they might have possibly done more financially rewarding for the company. Very artistic looking toys and a well-made film. Hats off to you. God bless.

We loved these toys when we were kids. Even though they were sort of freaky looking and intimidating to some, they made a profound impact on our childhood. We took them and their flying companions everywhere!!!

I finally got around to watching this, and man, what a great story! I mean, it sucks how it all went down for SECTAURS and Coleco, but the doc itself is extremely informative and fun. I especially appreciated the "How a Toy Is Made" section, since I really had little idea how toys got made back them, or now for that matter. Thanks for putting this together!

Randomly discovered this docuvid and it's really good! I never owned any of the Sectaurs toys as a kid but I owned the comics and enjoyed them. There are two versions of Marvel's Sectaurs #1 comic book: the standard edition that kids bought on newsstands and comic shops and a special edition #1 that was given away at Toy Fair. It's identical to #1 except it has a yellow ribbon on the cover that reads "COLECO 1985 TOY FAIR COLLECTOR'S EDITION." It's a tough one to find for collectors.

I LOVE running into "forgotten" toys and cartoons, and getting blown away to realize I had them lol I remember I had zak and bitaur. I liked clipping his mouth onto my fingers and pretend he was attacking me. Lol I remember the toys were very well made. Very sturdy and with a soft "squishy" head. Sad to see they didn't make it due to lack of marketing. If only they made a longer lasting cartoon series, I'm sure they would have definitely been around for awhile.

Poor support for the line, limited media exposure, and they were relatively expensive. Too much going against them to ever compete with MOTU, GI Joe, Transformers. Coleco was just the wrong company.
But the concept was so strong, we're talking about it 35yrs later!

Great video! These toys are so underrated, much like Coleco's other property, StarCom.
A toy line is only as good as it's marketing, which is why wonderfully made toys like this fail and other lines, like the awful ThunderCats, succeed.

Nice! I just found an old Spider-Flyer at a second hand store and suddenly my mind went reeling back to having my hand inside that glove and not knowing if it was ok for me to like this strange, monster of a toy, but I did like it. A lot. So I have spent part of today refamiliarizing myself with the toys... one of my friends in the way back had them; I definitely played with them, and I swear I have played with the HYYVE playset in my previous life. ;) Thanks for this! What I found most fascinating about the stories of these characters was the world created for that. I had Zak & my brother had deluxe Dargon, & we loved Sectaurs as kids. Too bad they were so "expensive" (at the time), because they were a great idea & were executed extremely well. I think if they cut down on the cost (by making the figs smaller, cutting down on the accessories & released only basic figs in the 1st wave), & having a female on each team, then Sectaurs would've probably been as successful as He-Man or GI Joe.

no recollection of there being any toyline.
So that ought to tell you something...
It's really too bad, because it was a great looking line of action figures, if a little generic. If you saw the cartoon, you have to admit the basic premise was the same as what we'd seen before with He-Man and Thundercats. It was a neat idea, but Coleco obviously oversold it. Maybe someone should've told reminded them that most people don't exactly like bugs!
