Awesome! It looks like Nikon finally has something that can autofocus for video decently. I’d like to see more of that. Would be super cool to see it matched up with an External recorder and see what you can do with the 10 bit files it can send out. It would really be cool if someone would compare it to a digital cine camera. Love the information your giving though! Keep it up!

The Z7 is amazing when the TCIII is used. I have used it mounted on my Nikkor 300mm f/4 vr and the 420mm pics are outstanding. My D3 now rests in my equipment closet. I have not tried my 200-500 lens on the Z7 yet but it is a bit much for my aging body. The 500mm F5.6 PF looks like a solution. Subscribed.

Thanks Ricci - really helpful - I'm waiting for the Z6 as I'm a hybrid event shooter. It'll be a lot of single point touch AF for me, I'm looking forward to using the rear screen a lot more to save my back and neck from those nasty little aches I get. The IBIS will be a nice touch as well.

I think that my self, and the rest of the 1,2 TN followers is here because of your simple, yet pedagogic way to explain things. And we know you are working for Nikon. I do not now if you do the videos on your free time or on your paid time ... but the way you talk, about the cameras feels true. It is not a commercial saying how great the cameras are. And it is not a youtube channel trying to find a fault just to get new clicks ... You really feel trustworthy. And we can see that you know what you're talking about. Thanks for nice videos!
And the answer to your question:
Yes of course I like to see a Z6 video. Also it would be nice to see some various videos about D850. ... I think that I will not be so interested in a D500 video soon. I am planning to sell mine when the Z6 arrives ... I will have the D850 and Z6 in my camera bag. :)

I found this very interesting as I have just order this lens, I have the 300mm pf and that work very well, so thank you. I would like ti see the Z7 been used in the studio with either 85mm f1.4 or the 105mm f1.4 as I think that is one area that may let this camera down a bit. But they are just tools and I would like to bet a lot of photographer who get the Z7 will have more than one body. Thanks for your great videos and yes I am one of your new subscribers and enjoying it to.

Hi Ricci, yes it's been very helpful! Definitely would like to see Z 6 videos, I've got one on preorder, like to see low light stills. Also keen on understanding the Z6 AF-C and how it performs with autofocus as compared to Z7, maybe some football or BIF? And everything about Z6 video capability where it looks like a monster set of features, IBIS plus digital stabilization, focus peaking etc.

Thanks for this video on the lens (don't care about the zeds) - you asked for suggestions - OK here's one. I've been told the pixel pitch on the D500 and d850 are almost identical and if you ramped a D500 sensor to full frame size keeping pixel pitch the same you would end up with an approx 45MP sensor. If this is true - which camera is better for bird photography and bird-in-flight photography or are they the same? I guess there are numerous considerations when trying to test for this but that's why we pay you the big buck. Are you game to figure it out? Thanks and new 500mm f5.6 on D500 and D850 would be nice too.

Great video that’s. As a d850 owner who mainly shoots wildlife I am interested in the z7 due to its light weight. Your shots here look good but I wonder if you could do a video showing the continuous af and tracking capabilities for the camera. There are a few videos online which seem to suggest that the hit rate while continuously focusing can be a bit hit and miss, not tracking so well. Would be good to have your thoughts on this in comparison to the d850. Cheers and keep up the good work

Good video. Had I not changed from Nikon to Sony, I would have sold my Nikkor 300mm PF ED VR and Nikkor 200 - 500mm f5.6 in order to purchase the 500mm f5.6 PF ED VR. It would have made a fantastic combination with my D500 and TC14EIII for wildlife. Damned expensive lens though, but the weight saving and optical brilliance would have made it worth it.

Hi, i have a question about the Z6/7 firmware 3.. with the very promising AF tracking (the white box) , it would be ideal if it could track birds in flight now far better.
The reason that I did skip te Z system so far... people with a limited budget would like the have the newest mirrorless technique on a second hand prime like te more affordable 500mm f/4D ED-IF AF-S II NIKKOR + FTZ adaptor in combination with the IBIS in the camera, best of both worlds for a great price... more expensive mirrorless A9 + zoom versus the Z6 + second hand primes..
Are you planning a test for birds in flight in combination with some long lenses like the 200-500, 500PF or for our group more interesting , a older prime lens...
Maximum fps , no EVF blackouts , maximum speed in focus and best tracking options.. if the EFV is just a viewer, the exposure is fixed at the first frame, we do not care that much.. we need a stable "look" trough the finder more.. and trust the mettering system to choose well at the first attempt.. if the light changes you can just start a new focus/exposure session , no problem

I can already say that it is very unlikely the d500 + 500pf + teleconverter would be a good choice. I am the sure the d500 with just the 500pf would be great, but the crop sensor already loses a stop of light, so with a tele also you are looking at f/11. As a wildlife photographer an aperature that low should make you cringe, as light is already always a struggle, not to mention the greater depth of feild, and slower AF do to lack of light.

Hi, i have been using a 500 Pf on a d500 for a few weeks now and having had the use of most other Nikon lenses over the past few years i can vouch for the ability of this combination. The 500 Pf is awesome in all aspects, my birds flight shots success has improved very much, it focuses very quick and is extremely sharp, the D500 stays on the subject very well. Of course you need a good technique to get the best from the kit, i cannot praise the lens enough for me its the best piece of kit i ever owned, it will go to the grave with me. If you are pleased with the 200 -500 Nikon and can live without the zoom capability then you will love the 500 Pf. I can send some images if required. good luck, Pete. UK.

Gee, I was really hoping to see you get some close shots of some birds so we could see what sort of detail was being achieved with this lens in particular. I would love to see what a serious hobby bird photographer could get from this lens and or combo, unfortunately the snaps you took tell me nothing about how good either the lens or the combo are for bird photographers who are interested in spending some serious coin on the 500mm lens and or the entire combo.......really disappointing that there is very little on the internet about this new lens......

Gary Haigh Ive been using the 200-500 for about 12 months now and itching step up to a big prime but the cost of a 500f4 is just not realistic for a hobby bird photographer, even a real ken one. Nikon are not doing themselves or us bird/wildlife photographers any favours by almost ignoring this lens.....mind you this lens is going to be a $6000.00 item in Australia but there are still numerous people interested.......frankly I dont want to see "professional" photographers doing reviews on this lens or in fact on other camera stuff, I Want to see what your average hobby shooter can do with stuff, you know the people they are trying to sell the products too?

This is a nice lens, but is not for full frame camera unless you are shooting in a zoo. With D7200 and this lens will be my perfect wildlife setup. With the 750mm F5.6. Why D7200 and not D500? Simply because I just don't like D500 :) D7200 has more MP's and it's 3 times cheaper! The AF points are just enough to ketch any flying object in any distance. With the best Dynamic range!

Not impressed at all. This lens should be combined with a D5, D500 or a D850 (or D3S. D4, D4S for that matter). Since it is a sports and wildlife lens...
