- Director, William Badgley, producer Jennifer Shagawat and band members Tessa Pollitt and Paloma McLardy (Palmolive) join the BFI's Laure Bonville for a discussion about the making of their documentary, Here to be Heard: The Story of the Slits.
A riveting film about the world’s first all-girl punk band, who formed in London in 1976. Contemporaries of The Clash and The Sex Pistols, The Slits are the pioneering godmothers of punk. Fronted by the irrepressible and iconoclastic Ari Up, the band inspired generations of artists, from Sonic Youth to Sleater Kinney. Drawing on stunning personal archives and including interviews with key surviving band members Tessa Pollitt, Viv Albertine and original drummer Paloma McLardy (aka Palmolive), Here to be Heard tells the story of a group that literally changed the cultural landscape of Britain in the patriarchal 1970s with their furious feminist battle cry.
