This is the best Rach 3 ever. Well, of course it's subjective, but I've listened to dozens of recordings. As one reviewer once said, I think on Amazon, it has a "homicidal voltage." The tempo and energy of the piano solo is just above everything else, and once used to this recording, all others seem tepid. In particular, the cadenza in the 2nd movement with the repeated notes is beyond belief. It's absolute divine pleasure. Thank you, Horowitz and Reiner. It has given me so much pleasure.
@Michael Zhu The recording of Rachmaninoff himself playing the third might be the best, but that, too, has sound quality problems. By 1951 recording quality was considerably improved as this album proves.
This could arguably be considered the best recording of this concerto ever. I bought this album back in the mid 60s and was blown away by the interpretation. At that time there weren't too many recordings of this concerto available. I had been listening to Van Cliburn's interpretation from 1958, but after this, it was relegated to collecting dust on the shelf. I still have this album, but my record player has been out of service for some time. It was nice to hear it again. Thanks for posting.

Agree completely. I listen to this one over and over.

La migliore per l equilibrio tra
piano e orchestra.
Always been my favourite ❤️
Es sencillamente perfecto 😊
I absolutely agree about the balance Thank you for also noticing.Even some modern recordings balance too much in favor of the “star” pianist. Ian
