Okay 2 things, For the Karen's who were insulting me in the comments and getting butt hurt for no reason, 1. Wild animals did probably hunt and attack humans more than they would now, MY POINT was not that they would NOT attack things, MY POINT was that they would not CONTINUE to attack things that were more trouble than they were worth. Back In the day, if something is trying to kill you and hunt you and you were stabbing it with a spear or THROWING it 10 feet away from you, an animal with nerve endings that is NOT SICK is NOT going to sit there and risk injury for a prey that is not worth it. FUCKING HELL. I don't know why that's so hard to grasp 2. When I said that a lot of the people in this movie don't look fully Native American, the actual Native American people in the comments exactly knew what I meant by that. Go look up what early Camanche people look like in general. A lot of the actors that they have are mixed with different things and that's completely fine, however as someone who's not from this country, I would understand why some Native Americans take issue with casting people who don't look as dark as many of the Comanche people back then were. Also: imagine making a film based on early Nigeria or Ethiopia of a sect of people that were very dark-skinned, and you cast people who are clearly mixed with white or black or something else and have lighter skin, it would not be as believable, and in some cases it would be seen as insulting. Same thing if you were doing a segment on China and many of the cast is half Chinese and European or lighter. That was my point. Jesus
Hello, heres a suggestion for you, theres a predator fan film on youtube if you are interested in watching, its called predator dark ages, its a damn good short fan film if your interested.

They don't give af about leveling the playing field. Otherwise they wouldn't use thermal vision and space weapons. They just go after game. It's like the scene in Cobra Kai season 2 where Johnny asks "2 cobras are in the jungle, one kills the strongest lion and the other kills a crippled monkey, which one would you want to be?" The Predator in the first movie took it's mask off because of how much Dutch went through. At that point, it wasn't about hunting. It was a raw fight. It addressed Dutch as it's equal, and not "game".
A thunderbird is a creature from multiple Native American legends. It’s a giant bird of prey that brings storms or accompanies them, depending on the myth. Also, most wild animals only began to really fear humans after guns became widespread. Records from before then indicate that many carnivorous species regarded us more as competition than a threat. Heck, the Beast of Gevaudan (a man-eating wolf) was active in the 1760s. Some big cats were still killing people pretty regularly into late 19th-early 20th centuries. Look up Jim Corbett or the Lions of Njombe for some really crazy examples. Edit. Thank you for the likes, I did not expect that. 😁
Big cats are still killing people, when I go gold panning in the foothills I wear two buttons on the back of my boonie hat. Cats are ambush predators and don't like their food looking at them. Thanks to my Indian brothers who deal with Tigers 👍
See this is great reasoning, you have a great point because of how after guns became a big thing and animals started being more aggressive, this (in my theory) shows that the writers and producers, even directors pay attention to these details when they are going to make a movie like THIS. great comment!
@@J0NVS. Thank you very much! Also, I should stand corrected, there are still places on earth where you can get eaten by a wild animal if you’re not careful. Crocs still haven’t figured out guns, and big cats and wild canids still have prey drives. Stay safe out there nature lovers!
@@doragonzx I’ve heard that theory, or it could have been a half grown lion, or a wolf/dog hybrid that was wearing a boar’s hide vest. There are multiple theories and many of them are plausible; it was just easier to say wolf. Alteori has better things to think about in her review and I was just trying to provide some quick examples. No hate, just explaining my position.
something i love about this film, is the fact thay you can clearly see this is the predators first hunting outing (in Predator lore it means it's a young blood, it's finished it's training, but has yet to do proper hunting) you see it make mistakes and under estimate its prey, you see it hunt small prey at first and then move on to larger ones slowly working its way up the food chain, the reason it doesn't attack her once she's caught in the bear trap, is because to them killing another hunters caught prey is seen as dishonorable
Is it that or is it inconsistent writing Edit: code of honour has no relevancy when it comes to the predator acting like an idiot and everyone except the main character being incompetent
"The animals don't act like animals... They're super highly aggressive." Yeah, cause that's actually pretty accurate to how animals were back then (15-1700s) since they weren't being overhunted or the land wasn't being tore up by humans... They had whatever territory they wanted and any humans who set foot in it, was fair game cause animals back then weren't afraid of humans
could not have said it better. I have had close encounters with bears and other large mammals . A 500 lb male black bear came within a foot of my face. Read Lewis and Clarks expeditions and the clearer picture is revealed.
If "peace was never an option" was an animal, it would be the California Grizzly. That's the whole reason the California Grizzly is extinct however. It was never afraid of humans.
The only way that the Predator would have had that gun to give Danny Glover in Predator 2 is if that Predator hunted this chick down killed her and took a trophy.
I imagine more like the Comanche saw how many were coming, tried to negotiate with these things over how the matter of the death would he addressed & the Yautja probably demanded combat against Naru & won.
The lion attacks them because they are in it's territory... This is how big cats act in the wild. The wolf attacks the Predator because it can smell it, btw wolves are very aggressive and territorial, it's not running away from something it can't see while it's hunting.
I think what made naru likeable for me was the fact she made mistakes she learned from and she analyzed the predator throughout the movie to plan against it in the end. I also interpret the final battle as the predator severely crippled dude was being mauled, shot, bear trapped, impaled, and shot through the head. To me naru killing him in the end was just putting down a target weakened throughout the movie. While the spear circling back to kill the pred with its own mask is understandably stupid he did not have all his brains per the headshot. Taabe had to be my favorite though dude was a beast beating up that pred till it cloaked and ran, and his humility coupled alongside his warrior persona made him best character in my opinion. Will say would have been nice to see naru acknowledge the death of her fellow comanche and brother but overall very fun movie to me with creative kills.
@@javonwitherspoon1644 literally the first few minutes of the movie they have her struggling to hunt with her dog lmao, even this video points that out too. The whole movie has has getting talked down on and had her do many trials and to prove to the other members of her tribe that she was a capable warrior, and that is reflected on the predator in the film since it was also there for the same reason. Try watching the film instead of blindly assuming it's woke
@@zzodysseuszz yeah, but remember, it's the first time a predator was in the environment, and the movie spent a long time showing that it was an unknown environment for it, and they took time to show it starting from killing smaller prey to targeting the natives, as it was slowly working it's way up the ranks. It made mistakes because this was a first time experience, but it was able to adapt and outsmart every character in the movie atleast once

That my dear is some serious plot armor, whether you want to believe it or not. Oh yea, this is the third best Predator movie.
The predator couldn't see Raphael because of the orange herb they kept mentioning throughout the movie. It's mask helps it seek heat, but the herb makes the folks who take it feel cold.. so the mask overlooks it.

When the Predator punched the bear so hard it snapped its neck, I played that scene back 10 times. The bass of that punch was a different level of demon time. That scene alone shows the literal physical difference between humans and Yautjas. (That Scene was just like GADDAMN)
But that kinda ruined rest of the film for me because if it can kill a bear in one punch I couldn’t help think every time he laid hands on the protagonist that she would be instantly killed. Too many movies do this too often; they can’t wait to show how powerful an antagonist is but then they just ignore what’s been set up in future fights
@@wephilips6651 At that point it had taken several serious wounds and lost a lot of blood. Of course it wasn't going to be as strong as when it slew the bear.
The thing is that animals from hundreds of years ago didn't have the same fear of humans as they do now. Once creatures like wolves and cougars almost reached extinction from humans is when they finally backed off a bit.
Yeah, it's simple population mechanics. The ones that lived to produce offspring were the ones that were afraid of humans. Several generations of that and you get modern day animals that fear humans.
In the scene with the bear, her bow string snapped because it was soaked. Earlier in the movie, in the scene with the brother he mentions how in a hunt with their father the same thing happened. When she slipped into the mud, her string got wet. A little bit later she was washing off her equipment when she noticed it, but she forgot. I think this is supposed to show that while Naru is a natural born hunter, she is still an ametuer and has a lot to learn.
My one complaint is that this is easily the best thing the franchise is has gotten in 12 years and its a freaking Hulu EXCLUSIVE. I mean, this deserves a full theatre release. Ita not great, but its solid. And , honestly, that's a pretty good start after the 2018 disasterpiece. I also loved the fact that its heavily implied that this is young/inexperienced Yautja. The way he stumbles into traps, his overreliance and inexperience with his own tech to the point it leads to his death and the way he basically just brute forces through everything are pretry clear signs in my opinion.
Could not have said it better myself. I’ll take this over the 2018 BS. Minimal marketing as opposed to 2018, and from what I’m reading we all that the movie was solid. I definitely wouldn’t have bought a movie ticket for this if it had a theatrical release. However this serves to bring back more interest into the franchise. 6.5/10
From what I can understand it was Disney’s call. Apparently if prey would release in theaters, it would land on hbomax. So Disney wanted it on Hulu to push it.
it was theater worthy but i actually think its a good thing it was straight to streaming. with the failure of the last film the franchise was at an all time low and way less people would be willing to send money to go see prey. so by putting it on hulu it exposes it to a lot more eyes of people who are just browsing hulu at home. So even tho i wish i could watch it in a theater it was better for the movie and the franchise to do what they did. cause now with the recognition this movie is getting we will probably get another, and the studio will be more confident putting it in theaters. just hoping they dont screw the next one up.
Great review, As for the animals being hyper aggressive. Mountain Lions and bears have developed a generational lesson that humans are dangerous in today's time because of the fur trades where they were being killed for their fur as well as the buffalo. Back in the 1700s the animals were not that threatened by over-hunting. The bear caught Naru's scent when she was upwind. And this is the bear's territory. The Lion's territory was violated as well also hence it's violent attitude toward the humans. Predator's honor code prohibit's chasing prey if caught in another hunter's trap. Believe me, that predator was not happy about having its prey taken, but was willing to wait and see what was going on with the trap and learn more, as it was this particular Yautja's first time on this planet. Remember for this predator just had a small portion of it's brain shot and damaged, This predator was fighting with a handicap against Naru. It didn't even feel it's arm get cut off. Also, this Predator is from a different hemisphere of the Yautja Homeworld. Also as a first time hunter on Earth, it is allowed certain liberties. Also when in the heat of battle, it will not observe the disarming one on one ritual. I liked this movie for the most part. A few gripes. Hopefully I helped with some of your questions on your review.
Overall good assessment. Alteori misses the mark on this review way too much. As for the predator having brain damage as the reason why it didn't feel its arm cut off, I'm not sure that's the case. It might just be so tough that it doesn't care its missing its arm.
Another thing to consider is that the coyote doesn’t see the world as we see it, it could be that the predator is cloaked/invisible to the human eye but probably other animals can see it
I really enjoyed this film, I personally thought the main character was good, I loved how she wasn't perfect at everything and makes mistakes, it humanizes her for me and makes me root for her. The action was great and the predator was badass. I agree somewhat on the ending, like her brother literally died no tear no nothing ok. Her plot armor didn't really bother me as it still felt believable and she still used her smarts. 7/10 from me, a good film.
Hey, these animals do behave in this manner. They were in the mountain lions den. I’ve lost a couple good doggos to this exact reason. Wolves are literally insane, it acts completely in character so does the bear. I feel as though you tried to read into the “movie is fake, not real” deal. They executed the animal mannerisms really well. Only criticism, that’s all. Otherwise really nice review. 8/10 movie in my opinion, they could’ve done better with the CGI.
I agree. Also Alteori is being surprisingly nit-picky. It’s her opinion so whatever, but I find the flaws she’s pointing out are so surface level that it feels like she put on this movie as background noise to scrolling on her phone then decided she could review it.
Not true. Wolves are not insane, they are very smart and if our alone like that, even the most aggressive Timberwolf, would run away if it could. A puma will viciously defend its territory but it wouldn’t attack from the front unless it has no choice so the puma was pretty accurate. The grizzly was fat and well fed and had a fresh kill, it would not have pursued her that far, just chase her off and gone back to its food. I’ve literally seen them do this with wolves trying to steal their kill, they just chase them about 10 yards and then let them go.
When it comes to plot armor I could be believe it, because let’s be honest the Predator went through a lot during the movie, it fought and got F*cked up by wildlife and a ton of humans. Also right before the final battle Naru shot it directly in the back of the head. I been hit hard in the back of the head before and believe me, it became extremely difficult to think straight and do things that I had no problem or struggle doing beforehand. One last thing this Predator was definitely a Young Blood, which are basically the fresh inexperience teenage version of Predators. She got lucky, just like Dutch did in the original.
You just have to ignore how it took out everyone else, from the best hunters in the tribe to the more experienced French settlers, but gets taken out by a scrawny yet incompetent woman. I'd believe it if we were shown her practicing in an attempt to avenge her brother, showing a more likeable side to her, but we just got her using a man as bait after watching the predator, before killing him. The second half just didn't feel like a natural progression of her character, making it very hard to believe.
@@michaelfireheart8300 that incompetent woman watched these dudes get killed and reacted by setting her playing field rather than taking it head on like the rest, she used her environment AND the alien tech Playing it safe and being incompetent are different things
Well you're not a technologically advanced, predatorial alien who can take gunshots, fight xenomorphs for sport and survive long distance space travel, are you? Don't understand why you want to call it "plot armor", when the universe there movies take place has already established that Predators are tough sons of bitches. Even the weaker ones can be major badasses.
Honestly I liked this one The concept was good and oooo the The predator had some good action scenes and I really like this more primitive design for him Also I think with the snake skinning thing is that none of us should’ve been out there and they left stuff behind that maybe they would’ve taken
Also now that I Think about it I don’t think the predator can see his own lasers they pointed on him but he doesn’t have a mirror so he can’t see exactly where it’s pointing If he even knows that it’s on because as soon as he got there he got ambushed
I loved this movie, at first I thought they were just gonna portray her as this unstoppable badass character but really they made it realistic to the time. Men were hunters and warriors, women were gatherers and healers. She was humanized in my eyes by all the mistakes she was making. On your notion of honor though, I don't think this predator in particular has a notion of honor. They literally call him the "Feral Predator" So if this is a predator from a feral clan, don't you think they'd have no clue what honor is? If the predator in this movie hails from a feral clan you can expect that said clan doesn't bother with Yautja civilization.
@@augustusvillanueva2008 it means that the actress is completely non-believable in that part...for physical and "character" reasons...also she cant act her role so it's like a fish out of water...
@@Radial3clipse she wasn't shown to grow naturally, but was incompetent through most of the film, unless it came to fighting men and is able to take on the predator by using her dog to distract it, which makes no sense as a dog wouldn't even be considered a threat worth neutralizing. It would be different that she buried her brother and afterwards goes into a montage of training herself to go after what killed him, but we didn't get that.
Naru had plot armor that would make Batman jealous. If you took the Predator out of the movie. She still would've been dead several times over. The entire movie her mother and brother were saying how awesome she was but her actions were a contradiction. She was also doing jujitsu moves during her fight scenes .She was stalking downwind(tracking 101). Was almost killed by a lion and was carried home. Was almost killed by a bear and rescued by the Predator. Almost died by drowning in mud in an area that she forages daily. Several members of her tribe self sacrificing on her behalf. Leg got caught in a trap that should've broken her ankle which ended up saving her life because she looked too pathetic for The Predator to sully his weapons with her blood. She managed to knock out a man over 260 pounds drag him to a cave and hack off his leg without him waking up in the middle of the " operation". She understood how the Yautja weapons worked better than the Yautja did. And they give her the title of War chief for having one sucessful hunt. In my opinion she's poorly written character that wanted to escape gender norms in a time where they would've made her stfu and go forage. They live in a community where you had specific jobs for SURVIVAL.
Friendly neighborhood zoologist here again. Alteori is pretty on the money withe the animals behaviour being quite strange. The "wolf" (looked more like a domestic dog due to being smaller, alone and the actor playing it was actually a dog) was acting overly aggressive to something that launched it. If something goes that to any predatory animal it's likely to give up and leave unless its rabid. If this was supposed to be a wolf it was doing an awful job of it. 2/5 Cougars will occasionally view humans as prey but usually stat away from groups, like leopards they'll store it in trees for safe keeping. But idk why the first guy is still alive as cats go for the throat/neck. They also dont bring prey back to their den unless theres cubs so idk why all those bones are there. Another fun fact: they used tiger roars during for it for some reason. 3/5 The bear was played semi realistic, since they can get very protective over food. Plus if she runs that triggers a chase response. So all in all not too unrealistic. 4/5. I'm just surprised the predator won so easily after getting its ass beat, pound for pound that predator is supernaturally strong. Since nothing that size could punch a bear hard enough to snap its neck, even with proportionate ape-like strength. Bears are just too durable, it would take a mule or horse kick to do that. Probably had the gauntlet claws out I guess lol. 2/5 for xenobiology plot armour. Would've been really funny if there was an alternate ending where a moose or something trampled the predator to death while it was healing. Pretty realistic too, those guys are BIG.
Gee, it's almost like the Predator is a fictional alien species that is known for hunting other alien species just for sport for centuries and it does not rely on our real world physics to beat a regular ass bear. 🙄 Like come on, I know bears are tough but let's stop making excuses for why the bear lost. It's also really ridiculous that you think a MOOSE would be able to kill a PREDATOR... the same creatures that fight XENOMORPHS as a rite of passage into adulthood.... and you think a moose would kill them? That's like saying the Hulk could defeat Superman easily just because Hulk is bigger.
This movie was pretty good, there were some parts that almost had me vomiting (I don't handle gore too well) and I like how the Yautja in this movie used the human tools to its advantage, and the doggo was probably the most badass creature in the movie taking on the Predator like it was another human
I like Naru as a main character, and I didn’t get a Mary Sue vibe from her. She had her good and bad qualities on full display and that made her feel like an actual person to me, it’s refreshing and good when a movie isn’t afraid to show the less than ideal traits. She gets jealous, stubborn, and selfish and the movie shows that yes it can be annoying to see that in a person and can makes you want to tell them to stfu, but those feelings can also lead someone to improve themselves and Naru does that.
It's so Mary Sue. She herself was perfect, it was circumstances where she failed. Her bow string snapped because it was soaked and muddy, she fell out of a tree and got hurt, she ran into a trap. Throw an axe though? Perfect. Put a rope on the axe and throw it around and catch it? Perfectly. Came up with hunting strategies that the men poo pood but ended up using anyways....
@@ZackHeise Her axe throw was not perfect, she was constantly missing the rabbits with, she had to get better and practice with it. And the men were badass in this movie, they gave the Predator hell
i just dont understand how she knew about the heat vision . sure she knew the plant lowers body tempeture . but wouldnt be more logical for her to assume the predator dosent give a fuck about a half dead men bleeding out ? when her logic up until that point that the predator always kills the worthy prey ?

In the ending when the story paintings show the predators come back from the sky, I think the predator that dropped off Feral might be Greyback. They come to retrieve the body & Predator tech so the humans don’t figure out how to use them. Maybe Naru offers Greyback the pistol & she gets to keep Feral’s head. She could be the reason predators reward those who defeated they’re kind in true combat. And explains why he gives it to Harrigan in Pred2, a almost normal human beating a Predator with they’re own weapons.
Correct me if I'm wrong but insn't there a predator comic where the Greyback befriends a pirate captain who got betrayed by his crew and the both fight them of and the captain dies in the end but gives the pistol to Greyback and it was like a cannon story But I'm not 100% sure about it

I dare you to do three things : 1) walk into a spooked out mountain lions territory , square off against it and walked out unscathed 2) throw anything at a wild grizzly bear and walk out alive 3) ram into a hunting wolf for no reason and not get attacked .
I love the predator weapons in this movie and his shield was awesome. This predator took a hard beaten but came back as a champ, however his overconfident almost got himself killed at time. I wish they show how the predators ended up getting the pistol that was in the second movie.
I really liked Prey, nice and gory. A quick thing that I noticed about the bear, it had a scar across it's face that looked like a knife cut possibly so I think this bead had experience with humans before possibly why it took a very visceral reaction to her scent. The retcon (not sure if it is technically retcon) of the origins of the pistol kinda annoyed me, originally it was from a pirate whom a Yautja was hunting and ended up fighting alongside against his own crew, the Yautja took the pistol after the pirate died from his wounds. That and the shield, while it was cool, a shield isn't hunting gear its war gear so a Yautja would not take a shield on a hunt. This Yautja felt more like someone who goes out to town to get drunk and start fights...I kinda think he would have eventually become a Bad Blood because there were elements of less than honourable behaviour, granted it was stated at some point this Yautja looks different because he's from a different area of the planet than the Yautja we have seen thus far so maybe they have slightly different honour codes
@@themonstergamer5441 yeah was figuring that they were ignoring the comics...which is a shame as there are a number of storyline they could easily adapt to film

@@kennethsatria6607 hippy is not the word I'd use lol. It was said in the leadup that this is this Yautja's first hunt on earth, so it did seem like it was working it's way through the dangerous game. It appeared to change its tactics as it learned that humans had varying levels of tech and tactics at our disposal. We don't know how much if any recon the Yautja do before they begin the hunt so we don't know if it knew anything coming into the hunt

That’s one thing the movie got praise for, actually hiring native Americans to play themselves….also grew up in the country/mountains and can also confirm that these animals will kill you just to kill you.
I can call myself Bob flying eagle, I'd still be a Mexican with a feather in my hair. White people literally genocided most native Americans and the ones who survived, of course, mated with people of different ethnicities so no, they do not at all look like historically accurate native Americans, children lol
Native Americans killed as ton of bisons, after learning to ride horses. They are also responsible, being native american doesn't make you a good person
"The animals didn't act like animals." I don't think you're getting the context, or dynamic between animals and humans during that time period and region. Naru was a great character. She was fallible. Not very well liked among her people. Everybody disapproved of her behavior. And yet, she was smart, observant, resourceful, tenacious. And you definitely see her progression as she learned, and figured out the Predator's abilities and weaknesses. Like, she fucks up multiple times, and has to figure out how to get herself out of it. The only gripe I have is the design of the predator. It *almost* looked like an attempt to blend the super predator with its huge mouth, and the normal predator with it's less bulky and more sleek look. Didn't hate the design, just was too far of a deviation from its iconic look imo. The whole honor system. Now, there *was* a sense of sport in the predator. And it did avoid hurting anything it didn't perceive as a threat. Any incosistency we see is probably again a result of the time period. 300 years ago, the predators may have had different standards for what they perceived as honorable and worthy. But best of all, I think, was the predator's *athleticism*. Never before have we seen a predator in motion like we see in this film, which I thought was awesome. The performer in the suit did a great job.
@@Valkuta Hey, no worries. I've hunted quite a few times, and my family had lived in the mountains for 170+ years, and they learned *real quick* you had to respect wildlife. And I think the problem is that a majority of people are so far removed- insulated- from wildlife that they just don't get that once upon a time, and sometimes even to this day, that wild animals were and are dangerous. I mean, maybe they understand it as a concept, but until they see a bear running full blast towards them, or a cougar hunting them on their way back to their cabin- with *modern* weaponry, mind you- then folks don't fully understand just *how* dangerous. Now go back 300 years to that region, with only the tools they had back then. No. Thank. You. Lmao
Basically was going to say this word for word, spot on comment! Some people are viewing this through the lense of the world today and not 300+ years ago when things were VERY different
I feel like the predator franchise should just mess around with different points in time and show how they have been hunting on earth for hundreds of years give us some mid evil times, vikings, samurai, maybe some us civil war, or world Wars 1& 2
I had a really good time watching this movie I haven't finished it because my mom doesn't like horror movies and she came home with my dad in the middle of it and you know how my mom doesn't like Horror movies and violence well she kind of saw someone getting their spine ripped out
This movie is pretty good and the predator looks pretty awesome. And we get to see the gun that Dany Glover will win in predator 2. That was an amazing twist. 1:29 if you think about it this is Katara motivation. She was trained to be a healer only to want to be a warrior and a master at water bending. That's awesome. 3:23 it's not meant to be. 7:30 it's trying to show dominance plus we gotta see the predator in action slowly building itself up with aggressive animals first then humans. 8:44 your asking for too much realism just go with it. 9:53 cause something freaked the bear out so obviously it's gonna attack anyone who interrupted it's meal. 11:31 trained hunters don't show fear. That's the point. That's been a thing since the first movie. 15:41 it's not a laser in this movie it's like a dart
15:40 timestamp *_"She knows what the laser does now"_* Yes, 100% laser light, projectile weapon guidance technology. As much as people say how the Predator in 'Prey' had less sophisticated weapons tech than the Predators in previous Predator related movies, that thought is completely wrong _(particularly in the context of its 1700's/18th century human prey)._ Relativity. The Predator in 'Prey' arrives on Earth with weapons technology that is centuries ahead of anything anyone on Earth had in the 1700's or even present day 21st century. _"Cloaking" technology_ and launchable _wide radius/area explosives_ included.
I ask my zoologist professor and there is no historical evidence that animals back then WERE much more aggressive than they are today, it has no bearing and logical explanation, animals hunt and kill to survive, if they do see a human, whether they see it as a threat or not, they would not just randomly attack it, hell, there are videos of lions drinking water alongside zebras, animals are not hyper aggressive but very territorial, the bear and the mountain lion probably was protecting their turf but she was right, they were really aggressive towards naru, our ancestor's death rate to animals back then can be attributed to them moving towards animal grounds, compared to today, there is less animal ecosystem and less territory for them so back then when we were just starting to be assholes, animals did have to be aggressive to protect their turf but not to the extent that, they see us as weak = attack.
You can tell the brother has her well being in mind. He even says "I had to carry you home, I can not do that again" as for the other hunters. Men give other Men a hard time. why should it be any different with Naru? The predator was flawless in this one. who ever played him did a dang good job. I could not get into Naru as the protagonist, and it's not because naru is female it. because she is so full of her self it was pitiful. the Mother breaking down weeping while tanning a hide, THAT BROKE MY HEART. Just no, I shed a tear on that one.
@@redscreen6 my sister was worried about the bunny and yes they did a really good job predator 300 years ago had a lot of weapons and was skilled to that’s what made the fight better sometimes the spears are better then guns when facing with a shield got his toe stabbed lol
You're putting a lot of your own experience on the "misogyny" parts of the movie. Im Navajo and mine along with many other Tribes were a Matriarchal way of life. I dont know if Commanche were, but it's not unlikely that Naru was actually being groomed for an important role in the tribe. Herbalist is not a job to look down upon, and it holds a lot of responsibility and perks.
She questions the lost hunter being spared by the Lion after being attacked as an indication something more dangerous scared it away before it could kill/eat the lost hunter. She questions the skinned snake because its left behind to rot where her people would find use for all the parts or an animal would normally eat it. Skinning for sport without practical utility is foreign to them and sends justifiable immediate red flags
I kinda wished the predators on the ship came down to her tribe's camp and honored her by giving her a trophy. I know the movie is supposed to be an origin for the pistol, but I'm pretty sure they were up there watching their kin hunt. So they would have witnessed one of their own be bested by a better hunter.
If you watched the credits when they were showing the the pictures retelling of the movie they added an extra scene in the end where mulitple predator ships started descending down from the sky while they were looking up at it.
Alredy commented, but I feel like its a genuine missed opportunity to not have had one of the brother's friends give her a reality check Like, just ask her: "And what if you die on a hunt? How will your brother feel?" Or smth along those lines. It would have been a good way to facilitate her arc and make her realise how childish she's been acting. Plus it would have made her brother's death hit even harder.
I’d say the animals acted like animals would for about 75% of the movie just like how their mountain lion and grizzly bear attacks when people just happen to come across them there hundreds of encounters like them but the goin up in the tree was not what that lion would do.also their doesn’t have to be cubs involved to be attacks by these animals like how this movie shows.
"Why is it such a novel thing" Because it's a waste of meat. No native would just leave the corpse like that. Trophy hunting is 'mostly' a foreign concept to these people. Skins and bones are USED as material for clothing and tools and the meat is is harvested.
It's poor sportsmanship that take someone else's Pray when a trap goes off on it and I imagine for a predator especially wouldn't want to take it because they didn't earn it. I'll start note there was a lot of plot convenience protecting the protagonist including mastering the whole rope trick which I know for a fact takes even Masters a while to learn to do and she learned it less than an hour or two and the fact that she was miraculous able to run after being caught in a bear trap less than a couple hours later like nothing happened. I don't know about you if I put the step in one I wouldn't be walking for a while let alone running at full speed or fighting other people. I still thought it was a good movie but there were flaws preventing it from being a great one
That rope axe thing bugged the shit out of me. Ive experimented with similar concepts and to pick it up in an hour or two where you're snapping it back to you like she's Thor completely took me out of the movie.
@@ZackHeise I've experimented with it too, it's all about technique. How hard you pull back, the angle you pull it back, all of that makes a huge difference.
I think the film was good, there was problems with the CG and I was kinda bummed that this was not in theaters, but was fine. Though I wish we could go back to the military theme and the good old Plasma caster, honestly best idea ever is to go back to the Vietnam war, I think we all know a lot of Black Ops went down on both sides during that conflict between the US (CIA) and the Soviets (KGB).
I think it was explained as to why the predator in this movie didn't resort to the plasma caster like the others. I think it's because of how underdeveloped their prey is, depending on the century they're in and the tech being used. Even though it was still technologically advanced, it wanted to make the hunt fair, in a way, so that way the hunted could put of a decent challenge for the Predator. The Jungle Hunter already knew that humans were advanced enough, it was why it used the tech it had on it. Same with the Jungle City Hunter, it had more gadgets with him while on the hunt, since the tech was evolving, so it had to use tech that was advanced, but not too advanced. Also, I do agree with you on the military thing, but in different periods in time, would be interesting to see, as well.
@@markbaltazar6916 here’s the thing though, the Predator in this movie didn’t really fought fairly and really it was never explained as to why the Predator didn’t have his plasma caster in the first place, there was one but it’s sorta crappy saying that the Predators didn’t make that yet. Which is silly, honestly again I miss the old military theme we had with Arnold’s film, honestly the Vietnam theme would work perfectly.
I watched some UA-cam reactions to PREY and they were impressed by the movie! However most gave it mixed reviews about it calling it "Silly and pointless" while others said that "this is the second or third best Predator movie ever made!" I have this movie a 8/10. This is exactly the kind of Predator movie that audiences and critics wanted to see after the first film was released, but it took a long time to make this happen. The Native American actors were happy to be shown proper representation of their people, and I'm native American, Navajo, on my mother's side. I enjoyed this movie very much
I think the animals in this do make alot of sense, because this was so long ago, animals are hyper aggressive and hyper territorial as you call it no matter what animal is entering its territory. Because they simply wernt afraid of humans because we didn't start hunting them to their near extinction until about 20 years later. Animals have changed over the last 300 years alot! So I find this movies animals quite realistic.
I found this film interesting. There were AMAZING parts in this movie, but it has its parts. other then that, I’d definitely recommend this movie to anyone reading the comments.
I really enjoyed the movie. It was a good action flick, mainly due to the Predator. I only had 2 problems with it. One was the fact that the girl was young and supposedly bad at hunting, yet she managed to kill multiple armed men attacking her at once. This would have made sense if she was a warrior but the movie doesn't indicate that. On the contrary she is portrayed as a young inexperienced girl. My other issue was the cold flower. It seemed like a lazy way to escape the Predator's vision. And it was also not consistent throughout the movie. The body of the French guy with the missing leg was cold, yet his blood trail was hot. The girl said in the beginning that the flower would cool your blood. The guy didn't even have time to digest the plant and he was cold already. Also, you would die if your temperature dropped that much. Normally human bodily temperature is at 37⁰C but if it drops under 35⁰C you get hypothermia. Now we must believe that there are magical flowers which cool your body instantly and super humans who don't die from hypothermia. The original Predator movie made more sense. The mud didn't lower Arnold's bodily temperature, it merely masked it. The mud scene happened only 1 minute after Arnold exited the water. He was also covered by tree roots and the background was the same mud he was covered in. That's more than enough time to temporarily hide yourself from the Predator. We see the girl display no effects of hypothermia, no shivering, no numbness, no nothing. If the flower truly induced effects similar to hypothermia, she wouldn't have been able to fight the Predator. Heck, she moves like a ninja! And even if the flower dropped her temperature without the effects of hypothermia, she would still be visible on a thermal camera, because she was in a cold forest, while Arnold was in a hot jungle. Her siluete would stand out.
For the first, fighting isn’t the same as hunting. People also don’t usually think the same during either activity. For the second, you could assume the flower makes the body react like it’s in the freezing cold. Hypothermia basically turns off your limbs by shrinking the blood vessels in the limbs and skin. Nothing could actually make your blood cold, only make you feel cold. (Tho I agree with the point on Naru). Lastly, there is no reason to assume all Yautja share the same level sensory abledness. The species natural sees in infrared and the masks usually help them see better. But, if you watch the scene again, you’ll notice that when the Predator is looking at the blood trail, the mask “zooms in” on the trail.
There were some weird moments in the movie but for your first pick, she's a Comanche, notably the most capable of fight humans as they did with others tribes and for your second the plant does exist but for this movie it was exaggerated. I don't remember the name of the flower/root but i remember it affects your body's pores.
also that last bit, it was night time the temperature would’ve been cooler, she also had flame lit and a man right in front of her, that the predator immediately noticed as threat, it probably disregarded her but knew she was there
u just like taking the fun out of things, u really typed out a novel. ur trying to base realism in a world that has an invisible alien, ur mad at a dope fictional flower healing concept as way to fight a damn futuristic alien in 1719!!. its 1719 wtf dwould have the indians do lmao, its not tht serious
I really liked this movie. I cried when her brother died. I liked that she had a character arc and wasn't just badass from the beginning. How she fought was genuinely plausible for a women. A lot of times, they take a tiny woman, and she can beat up all the men. A lot of your comments, I was thinking also. It was just a beautiful movie.
This predator was apparently on its first hunt. This explains its lack of honor and the stupid mistakes it made. In addition to its overreliance on its tech and brute force and massacring groups. This, as opposed to one on one stealth kills the Yuatja are known for.
@@Urd-Vidan yeah this is when predators started stretching their horizons when hunting even tho they've been around for a long time it shows they are not really use to different environments and didn't know what was on the planet
@@Urd-Vidan no in AVP they hunted on earth before. Look at the design of the Chopper Predator he has two human skulls. Hunting Xeno’s is to rank up to Blooded but they can still hunt under supervision before that
Watched it yesterday and I REALLY loved it. I loved the setting, because I felt humans fighting against a Predator with significantly less advanced weapons (considering the time period) raised the suspense. The character of Naru was likeable and felt like an actual character rather than an action figure for feminists. The cinematography is probably the best out of all the _Predator_ films. And what makes it a good sequel/prequel is it doesn't cram as many callbacks down our throats unlike the other ones. Sure, they got the _"if it bleeds, we can kill it"_ line in there, but for the most part, I love that whoever was really calling the shots on this film allowed it be its own thing.
Agree w/everything you said. There were a lot of quiet moments in the movie which allowed you to look for clues or take in the vista, which draws you deeper into the viewing experience. It felt like one of the best displays of Predator skills because of it's prediliction to fight closer quarters, which the Comanche were at home with. Taabe vs Predator was prob best fight sequence of the entire franchise. Last thing to consider is that they kind of thought the Predator was a demon and were not even sure it could be killed. Added a different spin compared to all other Predator movies where it was known to be an alien.
I really enjoyed it! It's a briliant return to form for the series Bringing it back to basics And people were getting killed like it was going out of style. I really dig the more primal look of the yautja's tech. And the face is very different but in a good way. The sounds it made were awesome. I so thought it was going to plasma cast the first guy but was pleasantly surprised. I'm down for more movies if they keep it solid 🖤🌌💜
They could have made the animals deathly afraid of the predators and therefore more aggressive towards the humans than normal. They could have emphasized that by having a throw away line with one of the hunters say that the animals are acting more aggressive lately
Would've like to see the predator go head to head with some conquistadors and some natives from central america. For the gore factor it would be great plus the jungle setting would be like the first one.
Do people not get that animals aren’t like… these vicious monsters 24/7? Clearly don’t fuck with a bear but it’s not uncommon to see animals run past each other, most predators are opportunistic and don’t hunt until they know they can, look at lions, they’re not vicious monsters just ripping ass through Africa, they’re intelligent creatures capable of making choices beyond “KILL BROWN WOMAN”
The cougar didn't just decide to not kill her. She managed to stab it with her spear before she fell. At that moment it was pretty badly injured, and would've been more worried about getting away, as any injured predator would. (EDIT: Looks you already addressed this, so my mistake.) As for the wolf part (it was definitely a wolf), the Feral Pred didn't care about the rabbit. It was going up the chain of predators. Remember, it started with the rattlesnake, then moved up to the wolf, then the bear, then finally started on the humans.
2:25 All the "Native Americans" were played by First Nations actors. My jaw dropped when you said that they "don't look like native Americans ". What are they supposed to look like? Cartoon caricatures with red skin?
While I do love this movie I wouldn't mind seeing a Predator more like the original movie. Where it was more stealthy and cunning and subtle, preferring to take them out one at a time instead of taking on the whole unit. Not really roaring all the time, but doing the clicks with it's mandibles, the only time it roars is when it takes its mask off and challenges Arnie, even when it's kneeling down looking at him from behind the knife trap it leans forwards and makes a subtle rasping sound, the new one would have probably growled or roared at Arnie before seeing the knife trap. Though saying that, I wonder, when it came to Jim Hopper's team in the original movie, as they are all strung up together, did it in fact attack them all at once like the French fur Trappers in this movie?
The one in the original movie was a seasoned veteran. That's why it was "stealthy and cunning and subtle." The one here is a rookie so it's reckless and makes more blunders.
When I saw this movie, Prey, I immediately thought of the early 2000s game by the same name. Prey starts in a modern day bar in a native American reservation. The MC, a native American, and his family get abducted by aliens for horrific experiments. He manages to break free, steal a gun and fight his way out. His grandfather, as he was dying, told him about the spirits, and the MC encounters the spirit of the raven, who shows him how to use his powers. The puzzles come in the form of gravity direction changers, portals (before portal), using spirit powers to astral project into a spirit form to shoot enemies with a bow and navigate areas that are impassible physically. The death mechanic is also interesting. You have to fight off the spirits coming to claim your soul using a bow in order to resurrect yourself and keep fighting. Since it's called prey, and features native Americans, and aliens... Naturally, I assumed that they'd be making prey, the game, into a movie... Or maybe making a prequel to the game... Nope... It's fucking predator, now called prey, because subverting expectations... -.- I am disappoint
I’ll watch this video later, because I’m watching the movie en rn with my cat. Did the algorithm hear me watching it? Anyway I guess the video is excellent as always! My cat says “hi Alteori” 🦊❤️ Love from Colombia 🇨🇴.
I thought the movie was bad. I could not connect with the girl. Her motive for becoming a hunter, is it what girls in her clan do? She seemed to be the only one. She wanted to be a hunter just because... Not strong enough reason considering it could be fatal. The ending left me a bit confused (i.e the predator forgot how his weapon worked?). Also they were speaking English, I was like ok, save the audience from reading. Then they meet French people who speak French 99% of the time. The movie is focused on the native Indians and we barely hear their native tongue but we hear the full language of foreigners? Mel Gibson's Apocalypto was more realistic in this regard. I really had high hopes for the movie.
I literally only have 2 problems with the movie, the preds face, just felt wrong to me And the while pistol thing, it already had a backstory that was good and changing it was needless But other than that this movie was really entertaining
I want to know more about Yautja. In terms of the variants running around. I am skeptical that the Yautja we see in Prey evolves into the classic Predator we are familiar with. Especially since the Predators from Predator 2 had an elder, which has a long lifespan. I assume it's just another subspecies that isn't as advanced as the other Yautja. Like how the Super Predators have technology more advanced than the regular Yautja. Maybe the Feral Predators exist on different parts of the Predator planet or maybe driven off the planet. With the pistol retcon, I am curious how Greyback will obtain it now.
@@Vuddles I never said anything about it being a Bad Blood. The directors wanted the tech to be dated in comparison to regular Predators. Nothing to do with ranks.
I go hunting for deer and birds with my boyfriend he's been hunting his whole entire life and it is a fact that women can distinguish shapes in colors faster than a man can and it is a fact that a male and a female hunting team will get more animals as a team because of the female and I assume that the reason that we can pick something out quicker in the woods or camouflage is because of the fact of evolution somewhere that we had to take care of our offspring so we were like taking care of the babies and protecting our babies and I don't know but I know for a fact I will sit there and I'll be like do you see that and he'll say what and I'm like yell to Hunter you have way more experience but the thing right there in front of you you don't see that and you won't see it but if you do look into that that is a fact women can distinguish colors and shapes faster than a male can
I think the reason for females being better at distinguishing colors is because usually women would forage and gather for nuts and berries and they needed to know if a berry was ripe for eating or poisonous. At least that's what I've heard.
I'm a fairly new viewer of yours Alteori, and I love how in this video your avatar points with it's feet. I don't think your newer avatar does it, but I find it to be so damn cute and effective lol.
Just watched this before leaving for work and I gotta say it's hands down my favorite predator movie to date previously it was predators for the sheer amount of fights shown but this tops it I feel they did narus character extremely well I like that we see her build up and also fail many times throughout it makes the payoff at the end with her knowing all the predators skills feel tht much better also her brother was awesome seeing him take on the predator with a bow and horse like he's legolas too cool a 9 out of 10 for me only thing is his mask looked weird to me but great movie overall
I really liked Prey I'm hoping it has a steelbook release. It's girl power without preaching girl power, she was a strong female character like Ripley or Sarah Connor IMO she wasn't happy with the criticism from others but didn't cry or whine she just took what she was taught and learned and proved herself a worthy advisory/opponent. It was sad to see her brother get taken out early in the movie, would have been nice to see him spending more time training his sister but when you gotta go you gotta go. Not perfect but up there with the original. if PREY were to get a short theatrical release I'd pay to see it again.
I fucking loved it especially after The Predator yeeesh, also love how much Pred get’s fucked up and looks like he don’t give a fuck exactly how I wanted it to be, so goddamn dope.
17:04 Bit of historical inaccuracy here: The Comanche are an American indigenous tribe, so why are there Frenchmen here? In the 1700's the French colony on the mainland of North America was New France in what is now eastern Canada. So I don't see why there'd be Frenchmen here. Also the bison were mostly killed off as the americans were building the railroad around the mid 1800's, not the 1700's. EDIT: Fur traders were usually friendlier towards the indigenous peoples because they were important business partners and couldn't risk alienating them.
read this: not every predators care about honor, there's all kinds of predators and not all of them are the same, some of them just do it for the hunt like the feral predator from prey, some don't give a shit, some has empathy for their race and humans, and some are traders that would even kill there own kind almost like the berserker predator from "predators" (2010).
I actually think the yautja was a Rogue. A Yautja who doesn't follow the codex. It also looked like the Berserker Predator from Predators, so we can asume that they are from the same Subspecies. Yes the Berserker is from a Subspecies nicknamed ,,Super-Predators"
When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was gonna be a movie about a native american girl trying to survive against a 'Rogue Bear', but when they showed the bear getting grabbed/killed by the Predator I was like, "Oh."
I enjoyed this movie, a lot more than some of the more recent entries in the series, but I had some gripes. 1. I really wish that the whole movie was in the characters' native languages. The trappers all spoke French, I would have liked it a lot more if the Comanche spoke solely Comanche, instead of phrases and words sprinkled in. 2. I agree, Naru was a bit annoying, but I think my biggest gripe about her character is there's not much growth. She kinda just goes from "I know that I can hunt" at the beginning to "fucking told you I could hunt" at the end. Granted, she had skill growth as she became more skilled throughout, but her character just didn't develop a whole lot. 3. This one is my biggest problem...the bison scene, and by extension the inclusion of the French trappers. Yes, the wholesale slaughter of the bison did occur, and yes it was 100% fucked, but the problem I have with it is that the French had nothing to do with it, and were likely not even in that area at that time because they were making good money on beaver in Canada, and as far as I can find weren't that far south or west at the time, but such slaughter of bison didn't occur for another 100 years or so, and was perpetrated by the Americans. While the film isn't a historical film, by setting it in a historical setting I feel that the filmmakers had at least some responsibility to at least TRY and stay grounded in facts to some degree. 4. I agree as well that the actions of the animals was pretty bad, but holy shit the cgi on them was even worse, the mountain lion especially. Overall though, an enjoyable movie that stands toe to toe with the first for me.
There's actually a Comanche dubbed version of the movie on Hulu and Disney+. If you look it up, there's some articles that can tell you how to access it because it's not the most intuitive
@@ameliaburton5313 I had heard about that, but I also heard that the dubbing was pretty bad. May still watch it at some point just to see if it really is
My only problem with this movie is how the hell did she know that it can only see in thermal? I get that the guy took the medicine before the predator got there, but he was also playing dead. You're telling me that she looked at that situation and deduced this? Why wouldn't she think that he isn't killing the guy because he's playing dead? I also love when the guy dies because of the large cat, nobody says anything. You can hear him screaming in pain and then cuts. No one bats an eye though. Furthermore, she shows barely any grief when her brother dies and at the end, it seems Ike she just forgets about him. And you're telling me she wouldn't shoot? Her brother is still alive, she could have at least stunned him or something at the very least. Maybe shoot it's leg? Granted, he would have been killed anyways, but at least let her do something. This movie was good in regards to suspense and action and the way they portrayed the predator is amazing. But the problem is just how unlikeable she is. I'm sorry that you can't go hunt because someone needs your medical expertise. Like I stated earlier, she doesn't show any grief at the movie's end, and she is selfish. She isn't even remotely glad her brother is back alive or even thankful that he saved her. Instead, she comes off as petty because she didn't kill it, which is her just mad at her own incompetence. Once again, good movie overall, but they should have rethought the character and the writing a bit
I found the whole "Everybody's misogynist! Women can be bad ass too!" thing uninspired. It's a message that's been driven home to death. I felt the movie was kind of beating a dead horse.
I think at the time the movie started production it was at the height of "wamen power" movement and after a number of movies using this formula flopping they decided to tone it back.
So does that mean there shouldn't be movies with heroines because it's driven home? Would you rather it be a man. Sure I get what you mean but if that were the case then there wouldn't be any female protagonist in the first place.
I can't understand why that's your takeaway. Neither her family nor tribe berate or doubt her because she's a woman challenging norms, it's because she specifically hasn't been able to accomplish a successful hunt yet.
I think she'd be surprised at the skinned snake because her people wouldn't leave the meat around to rot like that, they wouldn't waste it. And anything else that would bother to skin it would eat it. Also, her spear hit the mountain lion when she fell, probably why it left her alone. She injured it enough for her brother to kill it.
I think this predator is an exiled one, because he hunts for fun and only fun, he doesn't care about honor, he just want to kill, if I remember well, this predator is called a feral predator, don't know if the title can explain his behavior, but it make some sense (p.s sorry if my English is not that good, I'm from Switzerland and I'm still learning)
I did love the movie, although my only complaint is that 2 of the Predators gear, the Wristbracer, and the Plasma Caster. The earlier Predators on Earth such as the Viking, Valkyrie, Cleopatra, and Samurai, while they all had weapons from that era, the Plasma Caster, and Wristbracer was basically the same, the only difference is that the weapons were textured differently to match the era, and there was no need for them to change how these weapons fired, because the other weapons they carried already did that.
Sorry the whole time I can't help but imagine the native Americans as Navi and the Yautja are on Pandora. Not a big fan to pass real judgement but I give major kudos to the originality of this one.
I really enjoyed this review. Your jokes are pretty funny, and you have a point about how vicious the animals were. There are 3 things I wanted to comment on. The first is about Naru post lion hunt. Alot of people thought she was butt hurt and just didn't want to give her brother props for killing the lion cause of her ego. I think she actually saw the Yautja during her battle with the lion (hence why she fell), and understood from what else she saw that this was a dangerous creature. She was trying to convince her brother to go out in a group and hunt it, but he thought she was just trying to negate his achievement. When she left the village, it wasn't to hunt, it was to get evidence of the Yautja's existence. This is significent since this would mean she wasn't being selfish, but wanting to do stuff for the greater good. I loved Taabe, and he was such a good guy. I think that their dad may have died as he's mentioned in the past but not in the present nor shown, and when Naru describes the Chief, it didn't sound like she was talking about her dad. This might have been why Taabe was so supportive of Naru, as he was probably trying to provide that guidance for her (easier said than done with little sisters). In a normal movie, he'd probably would have been the protagonist, with Naru dying and him trying to avenge her. You made a good point about the ending, and I think it could have been better if she was shown like Dutch being exhausted, and then ending with her visiting Taabe's body. The Yautja have a code of honor, but its' rather hollow. These are creatures that kill for fun, like big game hunters. Like many big game hunters, they'll pretend they're giving a fair fight, while actually being cowards. In most of the films, the Yautja are invisible, and picking off those who don't actually have a fair chance of fighting back. An exception happened in Predators when the Falconer faced a Yakuza head on.
Okay 2 things,
For the Karen's who were insulting me in the comments and getting butt hurt for no reason,
1.
Jesus

No hate, just explaining my position.
something i love about this film, is the fact thay you can clearly see this is the predators first hunting outing (in Predator lore it means it's a young blood, it's finished it's training, but has yet to do proper hunting) you see it make mistakes and under estimate its prey, you see it hunt small prey at first
and then move on to larger ones slowly working its way up the food chain, the reason it doesn't attack her once she's caught in the bear trap, is because to them killing another hunters caught prey is seen as dishonorable
I love it too
Is it that or is it inconsistent writing

"The animals don't act like animals... They're super highly aggressive."
Yeah, cause that's actually pretty accurate to how animals were back then (15-1700s) since they weren't being overhunted or the land wasn't being tore up by humans...

The only way that the Predator would have had that gun to give Danny Glover in Predator 2 is if that Predator hunted this chick down killed her and took a trophy.
ooooooooooooooooooo good point!!
In the credits montage it showed more ships coming down so that definitely happened.
I imagine more like the Comanche saw how many were coming, tried to negotiate with these things over how the matter of the death would he addressed & the Yautja probably demanded combat against Naru & won.
Watch the credits to the end, the depictions show the ships returning. They came back to hunt their best prey.
Wait what did you forgot the predator has like a self-destruct

But that kinda ruined rest of the film for me because if it can kill a bear in one punch I couldn’t help think every time he laid hands on the protagonist that she would be instantly killed.
I mean it's better than The Predator, but that isn't saying much as this film does the bare minimum to be a predator film.
From what I can understand it was Disney’s call. Apparently if prey would release in theaters, it would land on hbomax. So Disney wanted it on Hulu to push it.
Plus the dreads arent knitted into thicker dreads
it was theater worthy but i actually think its a good thing it was straight to streaming. with the failure of the last film the franchise was at an all time low and way less people would be willing to send money to go see prey. so by putting it on hulu it exposes it to a lot more eyes of people who are just browsing hulu at home.
The lion was chased from its den/territory. That is more of a reason it could be aggressive.
And that’s some massive leaps of logic about the yautja.

@@chaiv8182 A lot of the flaws aren't flaws. The predator doesn't see her hunting the rabbits at the start as an example.
read the pinned comment. Wolves, especially alone are not going to keep attacking when they are punted away unless they are rabid
Considering the budget for the film, cgi was pretty good and definitely could have been much worse
The animals being realistic and running away is way less entertaining then watching a fight between a wolf/bear and an alien hunter

Don’t forget she ate that flower that lowers her body temperature, so she would be very hard to see in the predators eyes
@@michaelfireheart8300 that incompetent woman watched these dudes get killed and reacted by setting her playing field rather than taking it head on like the rest, she used her environment AND the alien tech

Also I think with the snake skinning thing is that none of us should’ve been out there and they left stuff behind that maybe they would’ve taken
Also now that I Think about it I don’t think the predator can see his own lasers they pointed on him but he doesn’t have a mirror so he can’t see exactly where it’s pointing If he even knows that it’s on because as soon as he got there he got ambushed
And also the predator helmet is a bone, it doesn t emit any sort of heat so maybe he didn t even know it was there
I loved this movie, at first I thought they were just gonna portray her as this unstoppable badass character but really they made it realistic to the time. The "wolf" (looked more like a domestic dog due to being smaller, alone and the actor playing it was actually a dog) was acting overly aggressive to something that launched it. The bear was played semi realistic, since they can get very protective over food. Plus if she runs that triggers a chase response. So all in all not too unrealistic. 4/5.
I'm just surprised the predator won so easily after getting its ass beat, pound for pound that predator is supernaturally strong.
Fox doesn't really consider dark horse comics cannon, which is fine. Its just like marvel Ig, u have the movies and the comics and thats fine.
@@themonstergamer5441 yeah was figuring that they were ignoring the comics...which is a shame as there are a number of storyline they could easily adapt to film
@@davidmathieson8661 yeah, but I do think that they take inspiration from the comic from time to time. I don't thinks it a bad thing either bc they can cherry pick from the comics and adapt them to films and built cannon in the movies.
This pred was like a hippy or survivalist guy, he clearly had some interest of the local fauna.
My headcannon is he's a different specialist going after native animal predators, and that maybe hunting human level prey was not as widespread as the time of the Jungle Hunter.
@@kennethsatria6607 hippy is not the word I'd use lol. It was said in the leadup that this is this Yautja's first hunt on earth, so it did seem like it was working it's way through the dangerous game. Similar to human hunters the more dangerous the creature the more prestige the kill brings, doing it with lower spec equipment brings even more. It appeared to change its tactics as it learned that humans had varying levels of tech and tactics at our disposal. We don't know how much if any recon the Yautja do before they begin the hunt so we don't know if it knew anything coming into the hunt
they don't look native american lmfao, they are literally native american. her name is amber midthunder, with the animals i have ran into both mountain lions and wolves and i can confirm they act that way, a mountain lion will definitely kill a human being if given the opportunity lmfaooo
Glad someone actually commented on how she said native actors don’t look like natives
Being Native American and growing up on a Rez I can vouch for all the animals mannerisms in this movie. Very good comment, thank you 🙏
@@Valkuta Hey, no worries.
All animals in movies are unrealistic they always have since Jaws came out.
@Man with hair my people were. History is passed down through stories.
I feel like the predator franchise should just mess around with different points in time and show how they have been hunting on earth for hundreds of years give us some mid evil times, vikings, samurai, maybe some us civil war, or world Wars 1& 2
The world war times would be to hard to do

Yes
So once I finish the movie ill watch your video on it
This movie is pretty good and the predator looks pretty awesome.
Mhm. I liked the bolt gun look to it. Also makes me think if they’ve haven’t invented the plasma cannons yet

Yes, 100% laser light, projectile weapon guidance technology.
@@m.worthy very true 👍🏿
@@Man-san2397 I think the Feral Predators just don't have access to Plasma casters like regular Predators do.
So where could the next Predator movie take place? Old West, Ancient Japan, Ancient Rome? Literally the sky's the limit.

What the heck ya doin Alteori? How have you not talked about Primal S2 Ep4!!! Lol good vid tho
Predator (1987) - If it bleeds, we can kill it. Come on! Do it now! 🤣They thought no one would notice🤣
Alredy commented, but I feel like its a genuine missed opportunity to not have had one of the brother's friends give her a reality check
Like, just ask her:
"And what if you die on a hunt? How will your brother feel?"
Or smth along those lines.
Prey was really good and probably one of the best predator movies we had in a very long time.
"Why is it such a novel thing"
Because it's a waste of meat.
It didn't take her because it didn't feel she was a threat lmao.
U mean the CIA thing as in MACV-SOG in the Vietnam War right?

However most gave it mixed reviews about it calling it "Silly and pointless" while others said that "this is the second or third best Predator movie ever made!"
I have this movie a 8/10. This is exactly the kind of Predator movie that audiences and critics wanted to see after the first film was released, but it took a long time to make this happen. The Native American actors were happy to be shown proper representation of their people, and I'm native American, Navajo, on my mother's side. I enjoyed this movie very much
My 11 year old son summed it up best: You don't need guns to kill a Predator, you need to be an acrobat. It cracked me up...
i really hope they 1. make a movie showing how the predator gets the gun and 2. do a good job, because it is a very interesting and super cool story
There were AMAZING parts in this movie, but it has its parts. other then that, I’d definitely recommend this movie to anyone reading the comments.
should i watch the vid first or is there spoilers
@@lights_memes_games the video is explaining the movie. Watch the movie then watch the video.
Watched it, and it's tied rn for my favorite Predator movie. Not sure if I prefer it over the Orginal yet. Both are amazing
@@LoLo25A I guess you would be fine if the flower made the girl shoot lasers from her eyes, because it's fiction after all. So it doesn't matter.
Watched most of your Predator reviews and loving your hot takes!

This predator was apparently on its first hunt. This explains its lack of honor and the stupid mistakes it made. In addition to its overreliance on its tech and brute force and massacring groups. This, as opposed to one on one stealth kills the Yuatja are known for.
So, a Young Blood. Interesting. Usually, they hunt down Xenomorphs for their first hunts, like in the AVP movie.
@@Urd-Vidan yeah this is when predators started stretching their horizons when hunting even tho they've been around for a long time it shows they are not really use to different environments and didn't know what was on the planet

It's a briliant return to form for the series
Bringing it back to basics
And people were getting killed like it was going out of style.
You make too much sense. Love your reviews. Glad I stumbled upon your page.
I hate the fact they retconned that awesome predator and pirate comic where the flintlock came from originally now it seems very cheap
Thank you very much Alteori
I hope the Primal episode 4 video is coming up soon Alteori :D
The cougar didn't just decide to not kill her. She managed to stab it with her spear before she fell. At that moment it was pretty badly injured, and would've been more worried about getting away, as any injured predator would. (EDIT: Looks you already addressed this, so my mistake.)
As for the wolf part (it was definitely a wolf), the Feral Pred didn't care about the rabbit.
Nitpickers gotta nitpick
I'll be honest. I want to see a movie where the humans lose.

Love from Colombia 🇨🇴.
Ok, so… I finished watching the movie and I love it!
Also, I forgot I don’t live in Colombia any more; but I’m used to typing that.
I think the reason they made the french speak their language so much is so we could see her perspective of not understanding them
I literally only have 2 problems with the movie, the preds face, just felt wrong to me
And the while pistol thing, it already had a backstory that was good and changing it was needless
But other than that this movie was really entertaining
I want to know more about Yautja. In terms of the variants running around. I am skeptical that the Yautja we see in Prey evolves into the classic Predator we are familiar with. Especially since the Predators from Predator 2 had an elder, which has a long lifespan. I assume it's just another subspecies that isn't as advanced as the other Yautja. Like how the Super Predators have technology more advanced than the regular Yautja. Maybe the Feral Predators exist on different parts of the Predator planet or maybe driven off the planet. With the pistol retcon, I am curious how Greyback will obtain it now.
Oh wait... What we saw wasn't the real story? Awwww. I thought it was
@@Alteori
Nope. The original story behind the pistol was from an old Dark Horse comic. This movie probably just retconed it.

Great video Alteori
17:04 Bit of historical inaccuracy here: The Comanche are an American indigenous tribe, so why are there Frenchmen here? In the 1700's the French colony on the mainland of North America was New France in what is now eastern Canada. So I don't see why there'd be Frenchmen here. Also the bison were mostly killed off as the americans were building the railroad around the mid 1800's, not the 1700's.
EDIT: Fur traders were usually friendlier towards the indigenous peoples because they were important business partners and couldn't risk alienating them.
I thought that was weird too. I was expecting the Spanish.
read this: not every predators care about honor, there's all kinds of predators and not all of them are the same, some of them just do it for the hunt like the feral predator from prey, some don't give a shit, some has empathy for their race and humans, and some are traders that would even kill there own kind almost like the berserker predator from "predators" (2010).
I actually think the yautja was a Rogue. A Yautja who doesn't follow the codex. It also looked like the Berserker Predator from Predators, so we can asume that they are from the same Subspecies. Yes the Berserker is from a Subspecies nicknamed ,,Super-Predators"
She knows that. She reviewed Predators.
💩 opinion
I enjoyed this movie. I was way more worried about the dog dying than any other characters haha
Right with you lol girl didn't get attached to her as a main character development
I liked the movie didn't think it was bad but i definitely think they should've done it with pirates like the comic.
@@nemesisastraea6659 Definitely wasn't toned back in this one.
The only thing I was worried about was the dog potentially being killed off too...lol
Considering the novel maybe a pirate crew took it and the elder predator found that crew and then the novel of how the elder got it happened
Exactly. Heck, Naru even said that there was something out there but she was ignored. She was trying to protect her tribe.
