I had to sip some Gatorade after watching this lol! These guys played a marathon! So many long gritty rallies I loved it, this is my kinda tennis! Houdini is playing much more offensively especially off of that forehand. Seeing his growth has been really cool! 4.5 boss is very patient. He played some incredible defense and forced many errors putting that lefty pressure on the backhand. Very physical hard fought match from both! 👍🏿👍🏿
Agree - thankfully they played a tiebreaker for the third set. They may still be playing right now if they played Wimbledon style (last set won by 2 games with no tiebreaker).
Very entertained match. I like Boss of Atlanta style, very solid, very smart and great strategist. He had the match in his pocket, but in tennis you have to make the last point. I have to recognize Houdini did a great job improving his consistency in the last games of second set and both tiebreakers. Well done both players, they deserve a rematch!
wow great match! Blue shirt was like the epitome of consistency and awesome defender. White shirt seems improving every time i saw him here. He has a very fluid game and now can dictate more with his forehand, just not have the consistency and confidence yet
Agree - blue shirt does the fundamentals well. Consistent, defends, and attacks with safe margins. White shirt is playing better now - today he's in a finals of a Men's Open tournament. He's playing a college player with a UTR of 12 - hopefully we'll get on video if it all works out.

Now if it happened on match point, that would be a different story:) I feel I lost it early in the second set when I had a chance to put it away when he was a little down. I didn’t succeed, he got new life, picked up his game, and it was a toss up from there. He played 2 really good tb‘s.

Hard earned win of the last set ball (1st set) - great rally. I didn't count it but it appeared to me, so many shots were slammed into the net simply because of ignoring backspin rotation. I like Houdini's forehand a lot with its consistent swing and timing and I genuinely find his play style athletic, clean and attractive. That said Houdini seemed to be facing small issues with playing winners from high bouncing balls on the forehand (lots of it slammed into the net). But then I don't know whether that surface is his preferred one. Incredible rallies both. Great serves. Good volleys. Nice passing shots. Beautiful match to watch.
Man this was a really good match. At first i thought BOA had the match. He played super consistent and crafty. But Kudos to Houdini to sticking with him through the end and winning the tiebreak. Since it was a long match, I skipped some parts and watched it in 1.5 speed lol
A few take aways: -Troll nice job changing the colors in the score graphics with gear changes. -Houdini plays better in full sun. -These guys extend points needlessly. Unless it's for cardio, if you're two feet inside the baseline flatten out the forehand and smoke a winner.
If I am Boss of Atlanta, I had wished Houdini had kept trying to hit winners at the end of second set and/or the tie breakers. If Houdine could avoid losing this match is because he held his horses off, he was patient just exchanging balls until the good opportunities came up. Every match is different, and Boss of Atlanta is the kind of player who will punish you if you try to smash the ball.
Ah... my time has come. A year or so ago I was playing a tournament, and they were using the Fast4 scoring system (short sets to 4 with breaker at 3-3), no ad deuce, let serves count as good). My opponent won the first set 4-2, the second set went to 3-3 so we played a breaker (first to 5, sudden death at 4-4). We got to 4-4 and it was his serve. His serve hits the net, dribbles over and absolutely dies for an “ace” to win the match. Great scoring system 🙃
Nice tennis from both players! I hope that if Houdini watches this he will see that: 1. His Forehand works way better when he doesn't try to hit hard and simply swings smoothly. When he over tries, his whole arm tightens noticably and he loses control of the shot. Think "smooth and fast", not "hard". 2. He should only chip the occasional Forehand Approach. Whenever he hustled up to short balls and hit a smooth topspin, the ball exploded off his strings AND he won 95% of those points.

His forehand is very heavy! I agree it explodes off the racquet when he strikes it well. There were points where I felt like I was at the baseline in good position and still couldn’t catch up to it. I felt like his serve and forehand were heavier that what it appeared on video.
Houdini with the great escape ! (pun intended) He played well, but had way too many unforced errors, if Boss was a little less conservative / defensive he could have won, great match!
Too many unforced errors. Too often with these type of players they're good at crushing the ball one or twice then usually hit the third or fourth ball out of the court and also tend to go up like a balloon also on short balls with little to no pace their game just pops. Not consistent enough. Just the same old crushing big flat drives from the baseline producing the same old errors. not creative enough. and i don't see any new mistakes. Just a couple of baseline players playing the same shots over and over.. The blue guy Drops the short ball short near the net to make the other guy run in from the baseline and what does he do on the low short ball when he gets to it?, he tries to scoop slice all under the ball and so he slices the ball all out of control going down the wrong way going off into the doubles alley because he dosen't know how to do a proper slice. And dosen't know how to control the ball. And he dosen't have very solid footwork so when his feet are put under some pressure he scoops the corner ball up in the air and out of the court with his buggy whip. Too often off a sliced ball the other guy gets the short low slice but makes the mistake of hitting all flat through it and dumps the ball halfway up into the net as a result because of failure to finish properly on the ball (sloppy finish on a low ball). If you do sloppy finishes off short low balls or slices with little pace on it, you will make unforced errors into the net or hit the ball out of the court..

I guess Houdini's strings broke, but interesting choice to have a prostaff 95 and prostaff 97. He adjusted well though. As a user of both those rackets At various times, I can say that they do feel quite different in terms of power. Also the headlight balance is a little bit different between those 2 models
Boss has decent strokes all-around, nothing flashy, though. He retrieved very well, could hit decent passing shots when he needed to and played some nice points at the net. Before I read the description, I thought Boss was Houdini. To me, it seemed he was winning points by magic. He reminds me of MEP, just playing more conventionally. By being consistent and playing within himself, he gets people to overhit and miss shots they would normally make. Houdini got a bit caught up in trying to hit winners a bit too much. On this day, he missed too many. But, playing a couple of good tiebreakers bailed him out. Very nice match! Could have gone either way!
Agree - in my opinion, 4.5 level has the most variety. Mark and BOA would make a good matchup in my opinion - contrasting styles, both have similar UTRs (I think) and both tend to win most of their 4.5 matches. It'll be interesting.

Houdini does what houdini does. Makes you think there is no escape and then pulls it out in the end! Dang lefties giving us righties problems since day 1! Match doesn't get much closer than that.
The Boss has a problem in his serve motion called "waiter serve". It's a problem I' m trying to fix, but it's very difficult. For many times I go to the tennis court alone to practice only serve. Well, The Boss has a great defensive game, he has what McEnroe calls "soft hands". 😉
Love your name! Mac was my childhood tennis idol for being a lefty and his great touch. I never heard of the waiter serve but just looked it up and that’s exactly what I have. When playing I feel like many times I’m slicing the serve but certainly didn’t look that was in the video.

With corrections made during practice, I noticed I can hit the ball higher, and with more power. But it's hard to apply during matches, because in these situations, old habits tend to come back. But I'll keep trying. I think you have a good consistent serve, but it could be much better with this correction. Hope to see you in Troll Channel again!

If you just watch the first game, don't skip this, it's much closer than it appears. I'm guessing that if Houdini takes a deep breath, he would win a re-match by a lot.
Recommend for Atlanta boss to work with a coach on his serve, he has a little bit of a pancake waiter’s serve motion. Easy fix that will give him more power consistency and access to various spins.
Thanks for the feedback and the visual. Lol. Love it. Yes, the serve is definitely my Achilles heel, esp in doubles. If I want to move up to the next level in singles, it will have to improve.

Congrats on reaching your next stage in life. That’s awesome. I hear Peachtree City is a popular community for retirees but not sure how popular it is for tennis- it is a big golf community and supposedly a person can ride their golf cart around town. In general, there tends to be more tennis north of Atlanta- Alpharetta comes to mind. However, it may or may not meet your definition of a retirement community (55+) as it’s a suburb of Atlanta. I mention Alpharetta as almost every subdivision has at least 4 tennis courts (some have 12+ courts) and most participate in numerous tennis leagues.
Just find the home that you like. The public tennis facilities are truly tops in Atlanta Metro Region - clay and hard courts. I know as I have made winter visits for years. And ALTA is an active organization with so many leagues... Enjoy
Lost a match two crap stories: (1) 1991 charlotte NC 4.5 men doubles tournament best of three sets we split sets and in the third my partner and I were up a break serving at 5-3, 40-15 against a father and son team so match point my serve a big kick out wide came in on a float return attempted slice hit an overhead that bounced about at service line over the fence and over the parking lot just outside the courts into a highway 50 ft. away. in other words I hit that ball as furiously as I could. no joke the father called the serve out after the ball landed for winning point. even his son looked at him like you've got to be kidding. but he stood by his call and I went to the director told him we need you to come ref, this guy just cheated like I've never even heard of anything this bad. the director refused to ref and said if we don't play it out we've forfeited. So they're serve( now I wonder why)? they actually came back leveled the third set and won the following set to win the match. I realize this doesn't sound possible but it actually happened it's almost like the director was in the guy's pocket and was afraid to rule against him. Even now almost thirty years later sounds like something you couldn't even make up. (2) Playing in Chicago 5.0 men's indoor tournament in 93' it was me and a good friend in the final ( we trained and played together often)we split first and second sets which took like 3 hours and with me up a break serving 5-3 in the third @ 30/15 ( up 5-3 as above story) the director called time and made us play a tiebreaker. I was incredulous and protested as much as possible since I had not dropped serve since early in 2nd set but she wouldn't budge and we played it and he won the tiebreaker so I've got this freaking 5.0 finalist trophy sitting in my kitchen. Son of a bitch who can beat those stories? UNREAL; I joked to my buddy after that, A if I EVER split sets AGAIN and go up 5-3 I'm walking over to my bag pulling out my sidearm and chambering a round very visibly. I'm laughing so hard just typing this both Are way worse than losing by a net cord. IMO.
Director has to provide a ref - that's awful. Sucks for the son - he's in an awkward position but should have said something if he saw it which it appears he did. Tiebreaker at 5-3? That I never hard of. That's also bs. Can't play a tiebreaker at 5-3. The final also? wow.

I was a thug-life drug dealer and highly competitive basketball player ( oak hill academy for high-school in VA and after that a semi-pro kickboxer) before switching entirely to tennis at 24, but totally used to dropping explosive temper bombs) , but again, that was "my former life."( here's the other huge irony: I left basketball and switched to tennis( which i had played a couple of years as a young kid) because in basketball I'd pick a fight with an entire team at once like a total psycho and knew I needed to leave that "profile" in the dust, ( pathologically violent personalities don't typically make good pastors, although I'll take one of those who is "reformed" over a compliant "choir boy" whose never broken a rule) Likewise, walking with Jesus just doesn't include threatening people with bodily harm unless they are threatening some kids or similar). And my opponent was a good friend so I really didn't want to spoil it for him. And OF COURSE I figured I'd win the tie-breaker. The possibility of losing never crossed my mind! but when I didn't win; I may as well go ahead and congratulate my buddy; although I did pick at him for a while about having "my" trophy. like I said: who can beat these stories? impossible to beat these.I have friends who tell me to write a book because this stuff doesn't sound possible right?! but WHO could make this up? smiley-face.

I didn’t realize that- good observation. I assumed both rackets were same but different generation.

Boss has decent strokes all-around, nothing flashy, though. He retrieved very well, could hit decent passing shots when he needed to and played some nice points at the net. Before I read the description, I thought Boss was Houdini. To me, it seemed he was winning points by magic.
He reminds me of MEP, just playing more conventionally. By being consistent and playing within himself, he gets people to overhit and miss shots they would normally make.
Houdini got a bit caught up in trying to hit winners a bit too much. On this day, he missed too many. But, playing a couple of good tiebreakers bailed him out.

That makes sense. Boss appears to be an upgraded version of MEP. Both appear to be consistent and play smart shots. Both lefties too - ugh.

Great match by solid players. It is a real contrast to the essential tennis match between Scott and Mark (both 4.5 players too I think).
Agree - in my opinion, 4.5 level has the most variety. Mark and BOA would make a good matchup in my opinion - contrasting styles, both have similar UTRs (I think) and both tend to win most of their 4.5 matches. It'll be interesting.

The Boss has a problem in his serve motion called "waiter serve". It's a problem I' m trying to fix, but it's very difficult. For many times I go to the tennis court alone to practice only serve.
Well, The Boss has a great defensive game, he has what McEnroe calls "soft hands". 😉
Love your name! Mac was my childhood tennis idol for being a lefty and his great touch. I never heard of the waiter serve but just looked it up and that’s exactly what I have. When playing I feel like many times I’m slicing the serve but certainly didn’t look that was in the video.

Arvin, if you see my matches on my channel, you'll notice I have the same problem in the service motion than you.
With corrections made during practice, I noticed I can hit the ball higher, and with more power. But it's hard to apply during matches, because in these situations, old habits tend to come back. But I'll keep trying.
I think you have a good consistent serve, but it could be much better with this correction. Hope to see you in Troll Channel again!

Recommend for Atlanta boss to work with a coach on his serve, he has a little bit of a pancake waiter’s serve motion. Easy fix that will give him more power consistency and access to various spins.
I agree. He could gain 10 mph with that switch and may be an easy upgrade. Thank you for pointing that out.

Congrats on reaching your next stage in life. That’s awesome. I hear Peachtree City is a popular community for retirees but not sure how popular it is for tennis- it is a big golf community and supposedly a person can ride their golf cart around town. In general, there tends to be more tennis north of Atlanta- Alpharetta comes to mind. However, it may or may not meet your definition of a retirement community (55+) as it’s a suburb of Atlanta. I mention Alpharetta as almost every subdivision has at least 4 tennis courts (some have 12+ courts) and most participate in numerous tennis leagues.
Just find the home that you like. The public tennis facilities are truly tops in Atlanta Metro Region - clay and hard courts. I know as I have made winter visits for years. And ALTA is an active organization with so many leagues... Enjoy

Houdini was a lot lucky
Lost a match two crap stories: (1) 1991 charlotte NC 4.5 men doubles tournament best of three sets we split sets and in the third my partner and I were up a break serving at 5-3, 40-15 against a father and son team so match point my serve a big kick out wide came in on a float return attempted slice hit an overhead that bounced about at service line over the fence and over the parking lot just outside the courts into a highway 50 ft. away. in other words I hit that ball as furiously as I could. no joke the father called the serve out after the ball landed for winning point. even his son looked at him like you've got to be kidding. but he stood by his call and I went to the director told him we need you to come ref, this guy just cheated like I've never even heard of anything this bad. the director refused to ref and said if we don't play it out we've forfeited. So they're serve( now I wonder why)? they actually came back leveled the third set and won the following set to win the match. I realize this doesn't sound possible but it actually happened it's almost like the director was in the guy's pocket and was afraid to rule against him. Even now almost thirty years later sounds like something you couldn't even make up.
(2) Playing in Chicago 5.0 men's indoor tournament in 93' it was me and a good friend in the final ( we trained and played together often)we split first and second sets which took like 3 hours and with me up a break serving 5-3 in the third @ 30/15 ( up 5-3 as above story) the director called time and made us play a tiebreaker. I was incredulous and protested as much as possible since I had not dropped serve since early in 2nd set but she wouldn't budge and we played it and he won the tiebreaker so I've got this freaking 5.0 finalist trophy sitting in my kitchen. Son of a bitch who can beat those stories? UNREAL; I joked to my buddy after that, A if I EVER split sets AGAIN and go up 5-3 I'm walking over to my bag pulling out my sidearm and chambering a round very visibly. I'm laughing so hard just typing this both Are way worse than losing by a net cord. IMO.
Director has to provide a ref - that's awful. Sucks for the son - he's in an awkward position but should have said something if he saw it which it appears he did. Tiebreaker at 5-3? That I never hard of. That's also bs. Can't play a tiebreaker at 5-3. The final also? wow.
@@TennisTrollChannel yeah in chicago it wasn't even a single tournament- was the final playoff of a 2 1/2 -3 month ladder series I was in a tight spot As a theology student and pastor of a local church So I protested but couldn't really slip into "raising-hell" mode. ( although for me personally that was a strong possibility since before I became a christian at 24y.o. I was a thug-life drug dealer and highly competitive basketball player ( oak hill academy for high-school in VA and after that a semi-pro kickboxer) before switching entirely to tennis at 24, but totally used to dropping explosive temper bombs) , but again, that was "my former life."( here's the other huge irony: I left basketball and switched to tennis( which i had played a couple of years as a young kid) because in basketball I'd pick a fight with an entire team at once like a total psycho and knew I needed to leave that "profile" in the dust, ( pathologically violent personalities don't typically make good pastors, although I'll take one of those who is "reformed" over a compliant "choir boy" whose never broken a rule) Likewise, walking with Jesus just doesn't include threatening people with bodily harm unless they are threatening some kids or similar).
And my opponent was a good friend so I really didn't want to spoil it for him. And OF COURSE I figured I'd win the tie-breaker. The possibility of losing never crossed my mind! but when I didn't win; I
may as well go ahead and congratulate my buddy; although I did pick at him for a while about having "my" trophy. like I said: who can beat these stories? impossible to beat these.I have friends who tell me to write a book because this stuff doesn't sound possible right?! but WHO could make this up? smiley-face.

Now, with tennis- if the tennis center was closing, maybe playing a tiebreaker at 5-5 would make sense (if both players agree). At 5-3? That’s unheard of. I understand trying to not blow up in anger, but you had every reason to stand your ground and I’m sure you did. Unfortunately the director had other ideas. I agree- hearing a life journey of a reformed person carries more weight to me. For me, I find Paul’s journey amazing. Sorry that happened to you. I’ll rather lose by a net cord- it’s at least fair : ]
