You never ever ever shave fur unless it is very long and matted to the skin or there is some other medical reason to do so. Fur is not like hair. It is hollow and actually works to keep the dogs cool when it's hot, so by shaving them you are actually inhibiting their ability to cool down. If you are worried about shedding, use a Furminator or a number 40 blade and comb them out daily. As a groomer you should never accept a client insisting on shaving fur because it is bad for the dog.
I agree with you 100% pugs should not be shaved. My husband and myself have a black male pug and we would never shave him. Yes he sheds alot of hair and yes we need to start brushing him out but to shave him because they shed no way.
@@LoowheezeBreeze my husband and I have a 7month old male black pug and I don't see why you need to shave them. Brushing is a good idea instead of shaving. They need there fur to keep them cool in the summer. Please stop shaving your pug.
Umm this is exactly why they are groomed this way? If they don't, hair gets in their eyes everyday and their fur is not always clean it is dusty... during this process the hair is in the eye for a little bit then they are cleaned up and wiped. No need to worry! They also have 2 coats. Top layer can be shaven off 😊 grows very fast!
If the dog is inside most of the time it doesn't matter if they're shaved or not. Some pugs fur grows back thicker or has ingrown hairs, and it is best to test how a patch grows back. It is not a one size fits all, their skin and fur is not always forever ruined. If they might get sunburn, put some sunblock on. With or without shaving, they don't do well outside for long periods of time anyway. Generally, if someone gets their pug shaved, it may help the owner's allergies, you don't know. Otherwise, there's no technical need, sure. But they did not look like a pair of dogs that were extra dirty or starved. People are overthinking. They looked happy and cute!
DOG sunscreen, not Coppertone. Dogs have been around 11,000 years. They've adapted so their NATURAL coat does a great job protecting them form the Sun. Breeding messes that up a bit - especially "designer dogs." But maintaining their natural coat is their best protection.
Good point. They're shaving off the longer, hardier coat. What's left is the undercoat which is where most of the shedding is from. That's why those giant piles of fur you comb out are so much softer than the outer coat.
Nunca nunca jamas se debe afeitar asi un Pug y menos a contra pelo, es terrible para el perro y a futuro puede causar problemas dermatologicos. Me extra;a por que es uno de los temas que mas se tratan en los cursos de estetica canina.

poor little creatures! can hardly breathe although they are hardly physically active, are too fat and finally I ask myself why do these dogs have to go to the groomer at all? they have short fur which could stay that way. as a result, their fur loses its ability to block out the sun. they get sunburned and the heat penetrates the skin even better, fatal for these dogs, who can hardly regulate their temperature anyway, because humans with their perverse breeding goals have bred their snouts away
I bring my pug to the groomer once a year to make sure she gets a professionl deshedding. I'd physially assault them if they ever shaved her. And my pug is NOT fat. She's a healthy 19 1/2 lbs. My previous one was 18 lbs. Some are gentically disposed to be larger, but the big roly-poly ones are usually from being overfed from a young age, and the owner thinking - like you -that they're supposed to be fat. The breeding standard also promotes a rounder shape, but breeders aren't known for caring about the dog's health, just marketability. Search for "Hogarth self portrait pug." It was almost 300 years ago. A much healthier looking breed.
@@EliasRinghauge The BBC did a report on the tragedy of breeding English Bulldogs (pretty brave of them). They said that these poor, abused dogs can trace their ancestry back to little more than a dozen breeding pairs. They're more interbred than the royal families of Europe.
15 BILLION. NEVER shave your pug, except if your vet says it's needed for health reasons. And ask them to explain why, and if there are alternatives. They may just do it out of habit without considering other, better options.
Pueda que se vea hermoso y feliz ahorita pero no es saludable para ellos tener su piel expuesta por los cambios que traen. Les puede dar cancer de piel y los pugs son perros delicados.
As a professional Dog Groomer myself. I was told never, ever to shave a short haired dog as it ruins the hair growth and naturally the dog can't cool down in hot weather, however I've recently had a customer call who wants me to shave down three pugs one that's a Puppy. I must say, I'm not feeling very comfortable about it, even more so as watching this video. Reverse clip was something i wasn't taught at college. So i think I'm going to say no.

Concordo.
I've shaved my black pug multiple times each summer for the last 13 years... his fur has always grown back in the fall
Lady please as much shedding as do a hair cut is mandatory you tired of cleaning up hair

Shaving a pug, no benefits at all. Shedding is just shorter hairs en it is bad for the dog temperature control (also when hot!!)

its bad for their health to shave this type of coats, they need their fur to regulate temperature from outside
