Love the pot mixing desk. I used this on Caroline. State of the art at this time.
FANTASTIC view inside the Communicator! Actually, the corridor, with it's wooden doors reminds me of the narrow corridor of old trains - Such as The ORIENT Express! There they have not only shiny wooden doors. THEY have shiny wooden EVERYTHING!
Wow i used to listen in my Essex bedroom while Dad shouted at me to stop and do homework.
Man these guys made my childhood in the dark days of the 1980s school bullying and cold war all good. xD
when they got taken off the air it just left radio Caroline, then later Kiss FM if you could tune in, then, well around my house nothing but BBC and shit.
These were great days of broadcast

I did listen to them in south of the Netherlands when I was young. Radio Caroline also was there again for a while
Laser 558 was very popular in East Kent with its slick presentation and their “ never a minute away from music “
Chris Carson always sounded like fun to me as did Jessie , David lee stone , good stuff , best not forget holly lee Michaels , and much respect to liz ‘ wild west’
Nice seeing Cris Tommy and liz, i grew up with them living in North Norfolk, also nice seeing radio one and those lovely EMT 950 record players in action :)

Typical. Not one word about Radio Caroline, without which Laser wouldn't even have existed. And notice the studio mixer? The original Laser mixing desk was from a stage PA system and according to DJ Charlie Wolf, wasn't really fit for purpose. It was replaced by the Gates mixer you see in the footage, and since Gates was Caroline's mixer of choice I'm willing to bet that Laser bought or borrowed it from Caroline when the stage mixer conked out.
Caroline wasn't the only pirate you know...
yes and all operated by the same people Charlie Wolf has his own radio stations lives in Florida and hosts his own program also fills in for Rush Limbaugh occasional under another of his many radio names and Charlie Vandyke aka Jeff Charles real name Johnny B. Wells got so fed up with commercial radio in the States that he went into teaching full time and hosts his own pod cast Caravan to Midnight he still keeps in tough with Myles Johnston aka Barry Marsh they are old Mates
