I think you should always ask if the person is the main subject. You can do that after taking a photo and i think its good idea to hand a business card with contact, so if the person change their mind they can contact you. For me personally its too much hassle so I just dont do street photography.
commercial photographer talking smack about photographers making documentary work (often with no money involved). pretty funny when you think about it
Interesting take on this subject David! I should think an old fashioned sense of taste, good taste, comes a long way. Or call it intuition, gut feeling. Rather than an emphasis on legality. With the right to take anyone’s picture in the street, comes the obligation to treat your subject respectfully. Before and after the shutter has clicked.
What if the photographer didn’t mention how he took the photo, and just left it to wonder?
It’s not any more ethical if they don’t tell us
Excellent take, made me think and reflect on times Ive been guilty of this kind of misbehavior and times this misbehavior was aimed at me when I was a model. Art should be about connection.
Just be nice but take your shot. Don’t be afraid of taking your shot.
I had a look at your Instagram and I am confused! So, you are saying objectifying women is ethical, but street photography isn't!?
agree with you am so tired of see photo of homeless , old people , and other cliché like that , in every street photographer page , or group , if you life turn to s@ you will like some idiot that think is a artist to come and take you photo ,
I could not agree more. I live in NYC and there are people with serious camera equipment everywhere and taking pics of people without their consent is, with some exceptions, an aggressive act. I am saying this as an occasional street photographer.
This is so short sided, stick to model photography then. Stay in your lane.
Sorry but this world is too sensitive and pansies now days and I'm not going to conform and not cave in to the sensitivity of ppl feelings. Yes there is a balance but not to the point of not doing street photography
What a weak and soft take... Just be honest.
